  1. You could give Mowbray £40 million and he wouldn’t get us promoted.
  2. Let’s see how many we get this season. I’ll be counting.
  3. That’s after he played a season as a winger.
  4. You’re talking world class players in the main there that do it now and again in spite of all their skill. How many of that sort of goal do you reckon Poveda will get for us if he plays on the right wing for us all season ? 2, 3 ? Like I said earlier, watch the championship goals highlights any weekend and see how many goals come from wide players getting in up the side of teams and turning the defence around. Then compare that with the 1 or 2 goals scored by wingers cutting in for a shot onto their “ good foot “. I noticed in the film of him playing for Leeds against Morecambe he played mainly out wide on the left.
  5. I’m not keen to be honest, it just condenses play into midfield. When I was playing right back I loved it when the winger I was marking went inside, it was job half done. Watch any goals highlight reel and see how many goals come from a player getting around the side of the opposing defence.
  6. Going off the bit of film Poveda is possibly the most left footed player you’ll see in a long while. Why would anybody play him on the right wing ? I think I know, Tony once saw Arjen Robben come inside onto his left foot off the right wing and bend one into the far corner and now he thinks anybody can do it.
  7. Interesting watching that bit of film with Ted Dexter facing Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith at their quickest just bare headed and with his sleeves rolled up to the elbow.
  8. He was the England captain when I first took an interest in cricket.
  9. He’ll get time on the pitch as long as we’ve got Ayala and Lenihan.
  10. Another winger ? I’d be surprised but a team full of wingers would be a change from a team full of midfield players.
  11. Coyle wins the title of “ Rovers Worst Ever Manager “ by a fair way if he’s being judged on performances alone. Saying Mowbray is better is damning with faint praise in my opinion.
  12. Just an aside on Premier League wages - it’s reported in my paper that Kurt Zouma wants £130,000 a week to move from Chelsea to West Ham. Wages like that have got to have a trickle down effect on the wages of the lesser lights we are trying to recruit.
  13. Charlie Watts died today. Who would have thought Keith Richards would outlive him ! Thanks for the music and the memories Charlie. It was The Stones that first got me interested in the Blues.
  14. I used to get tee shirts from a company whose name I’ve forgotten. Their largest shirt size after XXL was “ Dart Player “.
  15. That’s crazy. For that sort of money I’d want a player who’s going to be a match winner not somebody who’s on the periphery of the team.
  16. Yeah, a lot of huffing and puffing but not much real end product going off that little bit of film.
  17. His right foot is for standing on, at least Leeds had the sense to play him on the left wing .
  18. Not really, at least he didn’t hit it with his shin.
  19. Joe Haverty was another 5’ 3” winger who played for us a decade before Johnny.
  20. Outside of the boot passes are hard to pull off. I think Kevin Gallagher on Radio Lancashire after the game was hinting he favoured his right foot a lot.
  21. You could say that Mowbray has as much autonomy at Rovers as Dyche has at Burnley but the difference in how it’s used is like night and day.
  22. I can’t see that costing them much then.
  23. Mm, that’s a gamble I’m not sure I’d be taking.
  24. That’s what I like about Dyche - he tells the players what numbers they are having, not the other way around.
