v Bristol City (h) - 3/9/22

Sky still have a contract with the EFL to provide games on the red button but this season, because of the break for the World Cup, there are more midweek games. I assume the contract is for a certain number of games and the extra midweek games have not been added to the contract. -
The flags do irritate me but in truth I’m vary rarely at a stage where there are any. I saw most of Lorde’s set, Herbie Hancock and a bit of McCartney on the Pyramid, but nothing else. If you want to see music you can spend a full 5 days (there’s some on the Wednesday and Thursday as well), just watching acts and no need to speak to anyone if you don’t want to. I’m hardly a party animal myself.

I would have blamed predictive text Chadfy. -
I'm not Gav - I have some trouble planning so far ahead for stuff like this. Also I've seen him twice (at whatever the MEN Arena now is and Glastonbury, plus his cameo with McCartney this year). I might look nearer the time at seeing if I can pick up some tickets for Hyde Park next July - I have free London accommodation available! I have an Amex card which sometimes helps - it got us VIP tickets for the standard price at All Points East last week.

You're missing the whole point of Glastonbury Norbert, if you only consider who is playing. The festival is so much more than music on the main stages. The BBC film music on 4 stages - there are close to 100 others. Then there is all the circus, theatre, comedy, poetry etc etc as well. I've been going since 2005 but as a volunteer for WaterAid, a charity I've been involved with for 40 years. I have no problem getting tickets and frankly anyone who wants to go and is willing to do a bit of work can get in. There are somewhere around 60-70,000 people working in some form. We get an excellent camp site with good toilets, a subsidised canteen, a bar with both the best and the cheapest ale on site, proper showers and a free ticket in return for 4 x 6 hour shifts, all of which are a joy and not really work. It does mean that we miss quite a bit of music and this year's shifts meant that I missed everything on the Friday and Sunday evenings, but frankly it makes no difference. I enjoy the time in the bars with a whole host of friends I only ever see in those fields more than most bands anyway.

I sincerely hope that he ends up with a better career than Wilshire. I think there is a bit of a danger that we all get a bit carried away with Adam's potential. He's only played 1.5 games for the first team at Championship level. He's only 18 so will need a little careful management, he probably won't play every game and we need to accept that. His performance on Wednesday in front of the cameras means that every scout and video analyst in the division will know all about him already - Nigel Pearson will already be planning which attack dog to rough him up tomorrow. I really hope that he fulfils his obvious potential with Rovers but there's a way to go yet.

The recording of Tuesday night's Prom on BBC4 tonight has reminded me to write a post about my two big music events this year. Back at Glastonbury for the first time in 3 years was a joy as always, although I saw precious little music. First Aid Kit were wonderful, Lorde very good but Self Esteem, especially her "secret" gig truly tremendous. I made what in hindsight was a blinding decision to swerve Paul McCartney apart from the first few minutes and the last bit when Dave Grohl and then Bruce Springsteen appeared - I had been given a strong rumour about them both a few days earlier. I therefore missed all the self indulgent rubbish in between. Last Friday we were at All Points East in east London, mainly to see my current favourite band, The National - as wonderful as ever. Also got to see the very fine Fleet Foxes and a decent set by Villagers. An excellent bonus was Public Service Broadcasting, who were a very late replacement. And that's where the Prom comes in, PSB's prom from last Tuesday is showing on BBC4 tonight and should be a highlight.

Just as importantly going to Spain would rapidly improve his Spanish, which will be very handy for him in Chile.

Having just looked at the Burnley thread I need to add Busquets and Xavi to the list.

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

He was in maybe 3 or 4 of them. In the others at best he flattered to deceive. -
I think we need to come to a consensus about who Adam is the new. I’ve seen Pirlo, Pedri, Garson, Gascogne, Zidane and Hagi now. I’m going Zidane, as much for the fact he nearly played at Ewood.

He will have to work a bloody sight harder than he did last night to get a regular place in the Rovers team. Did you see him track back to cover Diaz? I didn't. -

only2garners replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I had a quick look at a Blackpool Forum last night. Someone made the comment that Bowler provides no cover to his full back and that was right. Diaz had acres of space to play in and just a full back to beat time and again. I don't remember seeing Bowler anywhere near him in their half. -
Scott Read is a consistently good commentator, even if he is a Burnley fan. He has been cropping up occasionally on TMS lately.

That’s a hell of a win from 67-5 to winning by 65 runs. I’m fancying a day out at Trent Bridge for the final.

I got mine half an hour ago and there were around 200 left and a steady queue. I presume a sell out wasn't expected given they said tickets would be available on the gate, unless they have more they can release. -

Ooops. I was going to buy on the gate but I'd better nip down and get one today. -
The rain is a good plan but only if you're near the station at both ends. I commuted from Penwortham to Warrington for the best part of 20 years although not since 2005. I could reckon on an hour most days to Great Sankey to the west of Warrington, so I didn't have to go into town. But many days it could be much worse. Coming home was always 20 minutes or so quicker. Definitely opt for an 8am start, which will be a lot quicker than 9am.

Clearly a higher class of clientele in Preston - the LEP has a weekly wine column.

Sit in Stand E under The Point Matt. As well as being right above one of the main toilet blocks there are some more at the top which are always quiet no matter what the crowd.

He's not even current first choice at North End. He's started the first league game and has been on the bench since. -

No, but tickets will be on sale on the night so whatever it is they must be assuming we won't sell out. -

He was born in Leuchars in Scotland and has played for Scotland at under 19 and under 21 level. He did leave Scotland for southern England at 18 months though, hence the accent. -

I’ve been twice but only for athletics. My son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter live within walking distance. I can see a grandpa visit…..
