  1. I wouldn’t be surprised, most footballers seem to operate in a bubble.
  2. They all say that stuff, PR guff, part of the media training. It’s why I don’t listen to manager interviews (I made an exception for JDT), so only poor results get me riled, not the claptrap they come out with too.
  3. Reads like standard boilerplate BS from an incoming manager. What did you expect him to say? ‘Pretty poor bunch this lot, terrible recruitment, but I’ll give keeping us up a go’.
  4. Even if you do just follow it at a surface level the discussion has to be grounded in some sort of reality surely? The reality being the budget we have (or don’t have). So loans and the like, an actual possibility at the back end of the window you’d think, yeah they should be discussed on this thread without them being immediately poo-poohed . But a discussion about the merits of a player that is obviously going to want far bigger wages than we can offer because, say, he’s also linked with parachute clubs, people want a fantasy thread where you can slot him in the side anyway without the negative Nellies raining on the parade? Err fair enough, set it up J*B 🤷‍♂️
  5. So somebody suggests a player that just ain’t going to come here as we couldn’t afford him, you want to ignore that very important aspect of it and have an chinwag about his ability as an inverted winger, how he’d work well with Gallagher anyway? What an odd way to waste your time that is - but you go for it.
  6. But surely finances are a key part of a discussion when it comes to signings, otherwise what’s the point in discussing player x’s attributes there’s not a chance we are paying a fee/his wages. So the thread of course will end up going down the same road as this one.
  7. I did get the point, I only dip in and out the thread myself, as what’s the point? But at the end of the day the busiest threads on the forum of a club in existential crisis won’t go any other way.
  8. Translation = he needed the money.
  9. Possibly he was given assurances, just shows how little due diligence they do/how gullible they are to trust a word coming out of the charlatans at this football club.
  10. Me too. I have belief, pride and will support Blackburn Rovers for ever more. But as a diehard fan I think what’s going on an absolute disgrace I’m sure you’d agree.
  11. Very rare journeymen managers would do that, but bit daft diving in to this job, he’d certainly have got another soon enough, but must’ve needed the cash.
  12. I don’t think they’ll sack him, they won’t want to pay him off, but it won’t do his reputation any good to stick around.
  13. I’m all for being optimistic, I have been many times this past decade (more fool me). Post the mad era c2014 when the club had a semblance of normality again, when, Lambert was appointed, post L1 promotion, the JDT era. Now? Why would you be posting ‘optimistically’ unless you are completely detached from reality?
  14. Just shows that as long as the wages are decent most managers at this level will take any gig
  15. I was a little surprised Eustace took this job. He had a pretty high Championship level stock post Birmingham and could’ve probably bagged a better gig than this. He still does have a decent reputation post keeping us up, so why throw that away with a hiding to nothing season like this upcoming one? I imagine he’s been on to his agent.
  16. Plus a fair few youth games, the pitch will take a battering, though I suppose we’ll be back to early cup exits again which will reduce the wear and tear.
  17. This is going to be his fourth season here, think fans are quite entitled to doubt if he’s up to it at this level. He’s only still around the first team because we’ve feck all else.
  18. He is interested in ticket income, he’s always going on about it, alas he’s only bothered to the point of hitting his arbitrary ticket revenue target, a target he knows he’ll hit with the 9k core buying, which is why we don’t see attractive/cheaper adult tickets as why take the risk that he won’t hit it in future if the club offers them. He’s no interest in the long term health of BRFC and building back its fanbase, and why would he when he’ll be fucking off soon enough.
  19. He’s certainly interested in whatever the arbitrary sales target is (as presumably his bonus is linked to it)… and funny enough he always does hit it whatever the final tally ends up being, go figure.
  20. ‘Over 2,000 under 16 season tickets sold’ according to the club’s latest tweet. So c7k adult tickets sold (obviously senior citizen tickets will be in that figure too). So yes will be interesting to see how that compares to last season.
  21. Wonder what new/rented shiny thing he can boast about in his eve of season interview this time? New padded seats in the exec box? A new massage table?
  22. I suppose it’s about context. Is 9,000 generally a good return for the club the size of Blackburn Rovers when you look at comparable clubs? When you look how crowds have boomed across football in the last ten years (so forget about comparing it to the mid 80s when every club had low crowds, it’s about 2024)? No of course not. But for Venky Rovers, after a decade of this farce, especially last season and this summer, with prices still significantly higher than said comparable clubs, could it be worse? Yes (and it has been, 7,000 in 2021/22, for example). So through gritted teeth I’ll take it as a base to work from for when they finally, finally fuck off.
  23. Yes and the results of others brings luck/chance/fortune into it as it’s out of your control , but ok, we are going in circles again as you wanted the last word. But I’m sure we’ll come back to it in 2026 when everyone suddenly cares about international football for a few weeks again (well, actually I won’t, I’ll be sticking to the ‘League 2 2026/27 thread’.
  24. Yep that’s totally what the two groups think 🙄 As you are completely ignoring (I’ll be generous and say you do understand the concept of luck and chance, though I’m not sure on that one) the point being made, I’ll leave it there and stick to the threads I actually give a flying feck about, I.e Rovers related ones.
  25. Not this again. Knew I should have stayed out of this thread, I don’t remotely care enough about international football. But anyway. Right, that was totally in France’s control, so of course that isn’t luck. England getting drawn a weak group then events out of their control leading to an easier passage to the final is lucky. That’s knock out football for you. Doesn’t take anything away from the team, from Southgate, doesn’t mean it was only luck they got them to a final. You still have to beat those teams and he did and the form picked up post the overhead kick. Being resilient and hanging on in there isn’t luck. Like I said before if Rovers got to a cup semi final purely by drawing lower league teams along the way, great. It’s a stroke of luck but that doesn’t take anything away from the achievement one bit, that’s cup football, you know the rules of engagement before you enter. You can ride your luck, unlike league football where poor performances are ultimately punished.
