I wish we had more footage of the promotion celebrations under Kendall at the start of the piece. Must be available somewhere, Granada Tv footage with Elton Welsby.

I recently moved house, I’ve got plenty of Rovers videos, they’ve been in the shed, probably knackered, late 80’s onwards. I’ll dig them out, see what I’ve got.

Thanks for your efforts in converting/posting these Herbie, very much appreciated. That pass was sublime as you say and a Wilcox header

Just on this theme, well sort of. Honduras and El Salvador actually went to war after a qualifying match for the 1970 Word Cup: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-48673853

Sorry for quoting the whole piece, but this is tremendous den Superb. I hope you can give us a bit more detail when you can find the time. Matthews v Douglas?
-
Talking about Speedie and Sunderland, I recall him getting sent off for fighting with Armstrong, Sunderland's centre back whilst playing for Chelsea? Coventry at Roker? Midweek sports special?

That plastic bloody pitch and Andy Ritchie

@USABlue @Parsonblue Both have some great stories. But I agree, I'd much rather hear 47er, Jim, Parson, Den and TS talk about the matches, seeing some of the greats. Did you nip to the pub before games? what was Ewood like back then, Albion pub, Aqueduct, Fernhurst, the big gates. Was it true Stanley Matthews Hardly ever played at Ewood because Dougie was better?
-
In the interest of nostalgia. My dads mate had been going to Ewood since the early 60's, home and away, even went to the reserve away matches for a period of time, a real dyed in the wool Rover. I've looked up the dates and game, it was 1985, he was given a bit of a kicking on the way home from Ewood by some away fans on the Saturday, ended up in hospital, fracture to his ankle. Rovers we due to play Crystal Palace at home on the Tuesday night, not want to miss the match he signed himself out of hospital against advice of hospital staff, and hobbled down to Ewood for the game. He endured 90 minutes of agony off the pitch, only surpassed by the agony on the pitch as Ian Miller spent 90 minutes lumping high crosses into the box for a Garner, which actually landed on the head of 6' 4" hardman Mickey Droys head, Garner never got near. We lost 1-0 and he never went to Ewood again after that. He was at the Halifax game above, as was my dad and the usual rabble. Sadly Dave is suffering from dementia after a stoke, but this story puts me in mind of him and his current struggles, I wish him all the best. Mickey Droy

Get the cups and medals on the table, its not even close. Unless as one burnley fan once tried to argue, "we've won division 4, you haven't "

My book would be straight to the point and not very long: A history of the total domination Blackburn Rovers are still and will always be, the biggest and best football club in Lancashire. The End.

I hope Parson has proof read it first

My dad tells me an Anglo Scottish cup game against burnley in early 70’s was the reason that the fences went up, carnage apparently, Rovers fans had an awful reputation back then. I’m not trying to glorify football violence, I’m told that our lot routinely hammered the burnley fans throughout the 70’s, terrible to think of that now, but part of football back in the day. Burnley being 10/15yrs behind Blackburn in every respect ended up with a hooligan firm in 80’. Blackburn was the centre of Acid House at the time, as was the rest of UK, we’d move on. Burnley SS were tearing up towns across the 4th division unposed and looting Boots during the 80’s, terrifying eh. Centre of a music revolution or looting boots and fighting Halifax? You be the judge.

My dad was at Blackpool that night, the ammonia wasn’t slung at the Blackpool fans he said, but it was let off in the ground and made national headlines, think we got banned from travelling away. Birdie 2, who is no longer with us, was blamed, but he was blamed for most agro at the time, so who knows.

I’m on the video, a young whipper snapper. The dream started here, Speedie Speedie.

All things taken into account this useless swine was probably the worse midfielder I’ve ever seen wear the shirt and we’ve had some crap. Big wages, ‘Spurs wanted him’ that lying rat told the papers, and he was useless. Even king rat had to substitute him at h/t at home to Villa. I need a lie down.

Its an excellent platform den, easy to use and free if your son buys the subscription and shares his login details If you're thinking of buying a subscription I would recommend watching one of the flagship documentaries - Making a murderer - https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80000770 The case is still across many media outlets today, I'll say no more. Then of course the very popular Tiger King - absolutely bonkers, but gripping.

Love the sentiment, but world class These are world class: Zidane Vieira Keane Figo Iniesta Xavi Ronaldinho Kaka

Don tried to buy every possible striker who scored more than 1 goal! Lineker, Sheringham, Paul Stewart, Mike Newell, Andy Payton The list goes on. Did a great job for us, will be remembered fondly, but his time was up, Jack did the right thing, the rest is history. They can't take away our memories, League Champions, League cup, European cup appearance, UEFA cup several times, a small town club punching well above its weight, tremendous.

Has anyone been watching Grayson Perrys Big American Road Trip? Good viewing with him putting the Americans uncomfortably on the back foot
-
I remember the Hull league cup game well if only for that dingle Payton equalising. Then it got even worse over the coming weeks when Don tried to sign him!

Brilliant film TS.

Are you being serious 99? We’ve had an excellent start to the season, you’d predicted doom and gloom, enjoy the unbeaten run, it won’t last forever.
