Once again its not just Diaz we have lost/will lose for free is it? Inconvenient to recall the others? Which club has done worse?
-
I don't remember it that way. I think most of us thought there was little point gettting rid of him at that point because we wouldn't get much if anything for him! As soon as he starts to look more like it, his contact should have been extended, or at least the attempt should have been made. But we don't do quick!
-
We always knew he would be though? Bad handling of the situation.
-
Yes,let's hope!

I don't want to go over old ground at length. My view is that we haven't handled this situation very well at all in recent seasons. Extensions to players contracts this season is encouraging and an implicit admission that things needed to change. If you don't agree, fair enough.

Worth a read: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jan/20/sales-stats-and-strategies-how-brighton-and-brentford-stay-one-step-ahead Sales, stats and strategies: how Brighton and Brentford stay one step ahead Karen Carney

Yes let's look at other clubs. Here's 3! Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton! 3 clubs which get it right! And its not just Brereton is it? 3 left for free at the end of last season and we really stuffed up with Raya before that. Take the blinkers off.

Another triumph!
-
Trolling I think! But if you're serious they obviously got it very wrong. Fancy trying to copy us but getting promoted. Unforgivable!
-
Makes sense to me.
-
All depends on why they bought the club in the first place. If it was to continue where we were when they bought it, obviously they have spent inadequately and on the wrong targets. If they want to just limp along in the Championship year after year and they have no plans or ambition for the club, then it really doesn't matter. My ideal answer is "whatever it takes" but I care and they don't.

No, let's blame the fans for not inventing non-existent transfer talk---as usual.
-
Last week we were third. Wake up and smell the coffee!
-
Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford----all in a lower division than us when Venkys took over. All with lower crowds. None had owners richer than us. You could throw in Fulham as well---always had crowds lower than we did, now they are light years ahead of us. Its not crowds and lack of money that have ruined Rovers.
-
But plenty forecast we would fall away halfway through when we did get to this position---top---third----fifth etc.

I agree that wouldn't matter who the manager is, or whether we sacked JDT or not. Given the constraints under which they all operate, the result would be the same eventually. JDT will probably get fed up at some point before his contacts up and look for another project. We 'll find someone else but the outcome will be the same. We'll lose another few hundred season-ticket holders, more local kids will look to Manchester and Liverpool for inspiration and the rest of us will live on our memories. We'll spend most of our time as a middling Championship club with the odd season in Div 1 and the odd promotion to the Championship to spice things up for a while. The size and frequency of our defeats this season is truly alarming. I can't believe we are really that bad. So something's very wrong. We'll be breathing a sigh of relief when we somehow get to 51 points. Not a good day to be a Rover.

Its always 3 years down the line. I don't believe there is a plan. We just exist. -
Whatever!

And its not realistic to continue shopping in Poundland and expect a gourmet meal. We end up with the likes of Edun yet hope for promotion! Not going to happen.

I don't care if he thinks we are ready or not. I've had enough of 5 year projects. Football isn't like that anyway---you see your chance and you take it. I'm reminded often on here that we are third. Does that not mean anything? Have a decent January window and kick on I say. -

Big disappointment if we don't. The pack will get even closer. A must-win. I still prefer 3 in midfield and would go for Travis. Not thrilled by him this season but can't see an alternative. I'd probably drop Hedges but bring him or Wharton A on depending how the game is going. Probably for Gally the way he's been going. -
Nail on head!
