Brentford (A) - Saturday 5.12.20

Have we got a plan for him going forward? He was bought from City, with great fanfare and almost immediately was in sure for months. Now he's apparently fit he seems to make the bench---the last 2 times with great aplomb. Will he now disappear for a few weeks or is he at last an integral part of the team? Agree about the goal by the way----great effort. -

Twice in fact, in successive years!! Only played 20 games in total in that competition yet won it twice. Absolutely remarkable. -

I haven't got anyone in mind Tyrone because there isn't anyone other than the youngsters and the January transfer window. This is a position best saved for experience rather than enthusiasm. However, we knew Ayala was injury-prone when we signed him and we knew there's always a potential sending off or booking around every time Lenihan plays. So, for me, its about prioritising the defence and building from the back which we don't do. We risk derailing what looks like a very promising season. If I were TM I'd be scouting for centre-back replacements in January and hoping we can limp through without too much damage till then. -

Lenihan and Wharton would be first choice for me. You? -

Ayala wasn't very convincing the other night though? -
We absolutely won't get £40M for Arma! He'd have to be scoring regularly in the top Division for that. He doesn't convert a big enough % of his chances and he wouldn't get anywhere near as many chances in the Premier League as he does now. And--he takes the penalties don't forget, of which we've had quite a few. He's a very good striker in the Championship in my opinion.

No missed all that. Didn't live in Blackburn. Going to Seed and Gabbuts was a special treat! -

Its a big difference from our result and performance against Barnsley though isn't it? I'd say we are nearer to the likes of Barnsley and Millwall than we are to the likes of Bournemouth and Norwich though. Hope I'm wrong. -
Yes, exactly what I fear.

Seed and Gabbuts! What a great shop that was. The other one was in Darwen St, not that far from the railway bridge. Used to go there often. Still have a fountain pen my Dad bought me from there one Saturday after Rovers game finished. I've come over all nostalgic! ? -
Bugger!

Both were so classy I can't think of any. Certainly no-one remotely like Duggie. Nowadays he'd be sent away because he was too small and didn't track back enough. -

We were due a bit of luck from the refs. Maybe that will be significant in the end. Plus, we are scoring late goals instead of conceding them Maybe this is our time!! -
He didn't get the minutes or the starts because he was so bad. Wasn't fair to the rest of the team or the supporters. His "recovery" has been remarkable, we're all happy with him now, let's leave it at that.

You're reverting to type there Biz--when your arguments are crap, attack the poster. I'm just expressing my view. For 2 years he was utterly hopeless and you don't have to be a professional to have spotted that.
-
I don't know that anyone expected "instant success' but what Brereton produced in his first two seasons came nowhere near success. He didn't look like a professional player at any level.
-
No, we signed him on a wing and a prayer!
-
Well that's obviously true but unable to sustain it. I did say "we are moving towards etc"
-
Without big spending though, this side wouldn't stay up. Look at Sheffield Utd. We are travelling towards a situation where the 3 sides that went up come down again, and, because of parachute payments go straight back up again.

Although, Preston's away form has been sound, its their home form that sees them struggling. -
Biz, I'm not falling into the old trap of arguing with you till I lose the will to live. You've obviously come back re-energised, but I haven't! In this climate he wouldn't be worth near the £7M we paid. imo, but transfer values have skyrocketed since we signed him so who know's? However had we signed someone else, their value would have increased at least as much especially if they hadn't flopped for 2 years. As to the bit in bold, its not difficult, try harder.
