Hard to take that result. We were clearly the better side. We had a big period of domination mid-first half but couldn't make it count. I was feeling very uneasy just before they scored as they had a 10 minutes of possession in our half for just about the first time in the game. And a real scrappy, ugly goal was the outcome. We didn't create many clear chances tbh for all our possession and Armstrong scuffed just about all of them. Gallagher is a tremendous worker but what a poor first touch. Our man of the match for me was Rothwell, he's going to be some player. Elliott showed sublime skills, Liverpool have a lot to look forward to there. Defence had them in their pocket. Just one of those games I'm afraid.Like Bournemouth again.

And you're cheating with your comparisons. eg "Mark Hughes is a great manager" is not the same as "Mark Hughes was a great manager for us" as well you know! I remember Langton smacking one in during the warm-up at the Darwen End. It hit a 6 or 7 year old kid flush in the face! Kids were sitting on little benches against the wall in those days. The kid was carried off by an ambulance man and he was definitely striking!

Have we got a plan for him going forward? He was bought from City, with great fanfare and almost immediately was in sure for months. Now he's apparently fit he seems to make the bench---the last 2 times with great aplomb. Will he now disappear for a few weeks or is he at last an integral part of the team? Twice in fact, in successive years!! Only played 20 games in total in that competition yet won it twice. Absolutely remarkable.

I haven't got anyone in mind Tyrone because there isn't anyone other than the youngsters and the January transfer window. This is a position best saved for experience rather than enthusiasm. However, we knew Ayala was injury-prone when we signed him and we knew there's always a potential sending off or booking around every time Lenihan plays. So, for me, its about prioritising the defence and building from the back which we don't do. We risk derailing what looks like a very promising season. If I were TM I'd be scouting for centre-back replacements in January and hoping we can limp through without too much damage till then.

Lenihan and Wharton would be first choice for me. You?
