Summer transfer window 2021.
tomphil replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Just read the full conversation i'm not talking about international borrowing. I'm on about short term borrowing at this end by the club as has happened once before. All hypothetical anyway as we pick through why there is a sudden need to slash costs and sell land. -

It was around the last period when we ended up in embargo. They only put in a few million quid not the usual 10/20 million. It came after they had to keep stumping up whopping amounts to sort the drop from the Prem out and we were clearly being robbed blind. How much of it was down to FFP i don't know but the taps got turned off for a spell. Where you not around here then ? Rovers this end had to sort similar short term borrowings. The sale of players then began and they didn't put significant money in again until after relegation i don't think. Slightly different circumstances now of course because of covid so maybe it's not the case. Just another possible theory though for such a seeming panic for money after they've stuck in whopping amounts already recently. -

What's they ? I said THE CLUB and it had to be done once before it was well documented. Despite what you seem to think there will be a limit to how much they can tip up at once besides FFP probably throws a spanner in. Emergency borrowings aren't cheap but we'll never know until the next accounts. It might not make sense to you but the fact is it has happened before and might have had to again. Besides just look at the rates they pay the BOI for the overdraft. -

I get that and agree but i'm on about borrowings this end just cast your mind back a few years. Last time there was issues Rovers took out some short term high interest loans when the taps from India were turned off. I believe the sudden departure of Tom Cairney was to cover some of that. Not beyond the realms of possibility they've had to take it upon themselves at this end to do similar. -

If as it's looking like all these departures of playing staff and other staff are down to urgent cost cutting. And the sale of a full training site is being pushed then these seem like steps to avoid admin. Not much point going through all that if you are going to let it go bust before long. Plus any player worth anything would be being flogged quickly now. I did wonder if there;d been some external borrowing to get through covid and now there;s a panic to pay that back. I don't think Vs way of funding covers that kind of thing, certainly not in one big lump. -

I don't think they'll ever stick Rovers in admin they'll just slash it all back then leave us hanging. They way they run things and who they employ needs 15 mill a year funding just to sit in the middle of the championship. If they want to halve that then are happy to keep chucking it in for another decade then we'll be the same club just an entire division below. -

I'd have taken him like a shot at any point over the last 2 seasons to see what he could do with Mowbrays backing and squad. Just what he might be left with if he did end up here is a worry now though. -
Mowbrays Successor
tomphil replied to Darwen Rover 007's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Why 6 games ? Win 3 lose 3 in no particular order then it's a 50% success rate which is pretty standard. Lose and draw 5 in no order and win the 6th 5-2 then it's oh he's turned it around then it becomes 10 games, christmas, window etc. All pointless, just sack him now or let him get on with it. -
Season Tickets (inc. Renewal Poll)

It was a stupid comparison and besides iv'e been up there with 5/600 away fans outsinging the home lot more than once. I'm sure plenty others have it's easy to chuck stuff like that about when one club is on its uppers and the other isn't. In fact last time i went there in the Prem the crowd was terribly silent apart from a few hundred next to the away end having banter. Place was a third empty, two thirds before the end because we beat them. The reason for that i'd suggest is because they were pig sick and the passion had been bored out of them. -

Yep these players need all the backing they can get and it should all be about the team now. As always at Ewood when the fans get pissed off they'll let the manager know. The first home game of the league 1 campaign showed that. Iv'e an awful gut feeling though this will get worse before it gets better but backing a manager over the team, club and fellow fans is ridiculous. He's a very well paid employee at the end of the day not a fan or figurehead. Plenty of hardcore barmpots supported Kean though so unswerving support for this guy is no surprise. -

You used Sunderland as an example and obviously out of more attenders you get a bigger percentage who'll make more noise. -

Well if Blackburn had a population of 280 thousand then there probably would be more similarities. WTF do you think people have been doing over the last decade whilst for all but a season or two of it the club has been a joke ? It's the passionate ones who care enough to let their emotions out in regards to the ownership/management etc. By and large it's the docile who just sit there and let shit happen and don't voice their concerns one way or another. Sheep. -

We are going to end up back in league 1 with these lot anyway sooner or later it's an absolute given. The people managing and running the club are of that standard it's only decent backing and strong squads that have kept us where we are for a few years. Take that away and you are relying on their ability to steer the ship through deep waters. That's where the icebergs lurk. -

They did seem to create a post out of the blue for Johnson. Hard to know if it was an effort to integrate him into the first team set up and help the pathway from U23s for players. Or just to take him out of the limelight whilst pacifying him with a fancy role then shove him under the stairs. Surely the role he does now doesn't carry a bigger wage than being U23's boss. -

Although he was a player rather than backroom staff Ben Marshall is a good example of this type of thing. Some assumption at the time was he wanted big money and was being offered better elsewhere after his head being turned. Rumours from the club did little to convince anyone any different. Yet years later having left the old boys network and not giving a stuff anymore he tells his version. Rovers offered him the same money, good money to stay but he'd seen the writing was on the wall. They were selling everyone, manager was a nice guy but useless and club was only going one way. Doesn't paint his loyalty in a great light but at least he was honest. Some leave for better offers but others jump a sinking ship because they know what's coming. It really isn't always about money and ambition if someone is quite happy where they are until an ill wind starts blowing through the place. The rot behind the scenes at Ewood has clearly set in yet again. -

I think with the outgoings of staff the real answers will come in who replaces them. Somebody similar or better then things are just being freshened up. Somebody cheaper, lesser or nobody at all then they've been given the nod to sort themselves something else out before they might get axed. A slew of people who've worked for certain agents or this manager and co before and yep, it stinks again. Imo it is probably a combination of all three and so will the replacements be. Either way it's not good and it's not normal for a football club that was so called working on stability. -
Brockhall STC - planning permission application ?

That was a decade ago yet here we are starring down the barrel of yet another gun. Remind us who still owns the club. -

Kean, Anderson, SEM, Kentaro and assorted cronies where here to rape and pillage the club though. Many of us weren't wrong about that. All under the Venky banner. -

So if there is truth to the rumours of flogging an entire site and condensing into another to purely cut costs and rake in cash. Then Waggot and Cheston sat there telling bare faced lies dressing it up as some sort of badly needed self financing upgrade. One that the owners who are now slashing costs would infact have to make up the shortfall. Yet still the alarm bells don't ring with those who chose to be deaf. -
He just wants as many as possible being involved and getting mins in the name of development and squad harmony. Obvious what he's been up to for a few seasons now, must make his day to day job that bit easier. Less options he has the less messing and being kind to everyone he can do. Or so you would like to think.

I'd say that is the perfect assumption of how he likes to work. The nice guy thing, which he probably is, has gone way too far now. It seemed at one point to surpass anything else in order of importance, like going out to get points and try and win at all costs. Particularly in the eyes of a lot of fans who act like he's their uncle or something. Not a man paid somewhere in the region or 500k to a million quid a year to manage a football team and win games. Rovers really is a proper soap opera these days instead of the living breathing 24/7 beast that it should be. As fans interest wains so does the importance of any desire to punch above our weight. Too many in and out of the club just happy to make up the numbers and not really bother about anything else. -
Football stinks but the first step to any kind of house in order attempt has to be getting wages to sensible levels. And crushing out the parasitic middlemen who infest the game, most of whom don't know a free kick from a corner. That has to happen all across the board at EFL level, only then will income to outgoing ratios level out a bit and suspicious 'investment' can be followed closer. Just far too easy for anybody foreign or otherwise to pour money straight through clubs without any real scrutiny.

Summer transfer window 2021.
tomphil replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The only issue i have with that is the pointers given last season by Mowbray himself. He knew what was coming and i think it's a plan pitched from inside the club. Downsizing is what Waggot is the man for having been at Charlton and Coventry when they were both on the slide. There were rumours of a root and branch clear out and cost cutting on here last season. Then the manager starts dropping hints about a change of direction in summer and wait and see etc. I said at the time when a few were getting excited it meant changes in the dugout and directors box that i thought they might be driving it not casualties of it. It's looking more and more likely that is the case although it might be more severe than they planned. As you say the owners have decided on a whim to go that extra bit in the squeeze. I'd assume that when these lot draw up their next budget/signing requirements to put to the owners in summer they do a few different versions to present. This is probably plan C but if it keeps them in a job and pay packet they won't give a stuff. -

I'm clinging to the faint hope this is what might be driving it but to be honest it's probably more of a convenient excuse to slash and burn. They've thrown money away again over the last FFP cycle backing Mowbrays muddled attempts at getting up the league. They don't appear to want to bring in fresh management and directors so they are going along with this lot again. Just now asking them to work at a level they are more capable of. It will lead to relegation but they are still stupid enough to think we'll have another repeat of last time. Personally i think the trio are behind this as much as the owners and it will lead to them getting contract extensions whilst they oversee the changes. It is downright depressing for all but the most deluded of Mowbray/Venky fanboys. The main issue is the continuing rumours around the training ground. If those are true there is a desperate need for quick money from somewhere. Or, again it's being driven from inside the club to fit their new low cost, easy to manage model they are pitching. -
He tried it in league 1 and it backfired spectacularly and it's all down to him wanting bombing full backs. He cannot get away from that whatever system he employs it always comes down to wanting players to be better than they are. That's the difference between him and say a Mick McCarthy or Warnock. You want blood out of stones then they are the types you pay to manage your team, note i say team not entire club. You want silly over attempts at continental football but average players and complicated football jargon, you employ Mowbray types. Somewhere along the line one or two at best will prosper but the team as a whole or many others with good basics won't.
