European Champions League 2019/20
philipl replied to philipl's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Ajax pulled through after a wobble. But some regular Group appearance clubs like Basel went as well as Porto. -
Concerns: - very sensible to see if Platt and Grayson would make the mark BUT select either ONE alongside a first choice CD OR BOTH with first choice GK, LB and RB and at least Travis in front of them. After Mulgrew going, it smells of desperation. - OK give one of Evans and Smallwood a run but not together because the rhythm and pace of the side is killed if you do - yes give Buckley a game but in his proper position etc etc - unfortunately that's just Oldham but we are getting these schoolboy selection and tactical errors every game Brave decision to ship out Raya BUT it doesn't give you any leeway to fall out with a senior player like Mulgrew. One senior player being blasted out happens, two is getting careless. - I bet dressing room morale has cratered after the way Mulgrew was shipped out Getting a big brute central defender was the one and only PRIORITY for the last window. All else nice to haves. FAILED WHERE IT MATTERED Mowbray has a habit of bouncing back with a thumping home win against a fancied club and going on a good run of wins. He needs to do that against Boro but recent appearances and reported statements look haunted to me. When Rich Sharpe is clearly tweeting tongue in cheek about managerial decisions, you know the Manager is struggling badly.

Very pleasant surprise to see the final score. Reading through this the message is nobody is ready to step up and our salvation is Dack and Graham. Mowbray's gamble ruled options out and probably damaged everyone involved.

Any sign of a late Rovers charge?
-
: #Rovers 0-1 #oafc With that change Nyambe has moved to centre-back with John Buckley now operating at right-back. No comment
-
Crikey Oldham have won more corners than us and we still haven't had a shot on target
-
No we are not winning this one.
-
Some seriously big clubs at imminent risk of getting knocked out at the third qualifying round stage this evening. ... and Celtic of course
-

Rich Sharpe @richsharpe89 · 11s Not happening for #Rovers. Seen plenty of the ball, but desperately need to find some tempo from somewhere. Neither Brereton or Graham in the game so far. So 100% as I predicted.
-
I did warn this was Oldham's free hit for nothing.

Not looking good for Notlob either. -
This will be sclerotic. Everything will grind to a halt in the middle.
-
Mowbray looking distracted to say the least in his LT interview

Quite honestly, not getting a confidence sapping gut kicking defeat has to be the reason for putting a strong side on the park tomorrow evening.
-
Two founder members of the Premier League. Both with 100% losing records to date. Something will have to give Tuesday night. For Oldham, this is a free hit so I expect them to field their strongest side and come at us. Even a L2 side might embarrass or current defensive nightmare so I half expect Rovers to be caught napping in this one. For us, injuries permitting, but whatever back 4 is intended for Saturday has to start against Oldham just as a "Hello, I am Greg and I'm a left back" sort of exercise. Wouldn't be averse to pairing Travis with Buckley in the centre and giving Chapman a run-out. Would be nice to see Brereton start.

Rovers new style of play and how we play it
philipl replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I agree to playing Armstrong more through the centre- he hasn't much clue when out wide. I'd pair Brereton and Gallagher in attack. -
I don't know how many times Armstrong got the ball in promising positions but apart from the daisy cutter going narrowly wide at the start of the second half, there was no end product and his decision making awful. He needs bringing inside or dropping for Chapman. The ref, especially second half, was the worst homer I have seen in a very long time.
-
There will be at least one great chance for Rovers to score- we have to be ruthless.
-
How on earth can the BBC have possession 66-34 in Fulham's favour? I looked to see how far Rovers were ahead....
-
Yes it was you. Bennett kept to the right side too....
-
Team set up well. With one exception Armstrong done nothing with the opportunities fed him. Tosin looks pure class. Couple of times Fulham have gone down for fouls which were dubious when we were in dangerous positions. Overall, Fulham couldn't be complaining if it were 0-1 but Cairney scored a worldy.
-
Crikey, they are watering the pitch so heavily the camera lens is dripping. Bambis on ice afternoon.
-
All Fulham have to do is play for the misplaced passes of Bennett and Bell. Walton could emerge a folk hero...
