The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)
Mercer replied to RoversClitheroe's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Are we really looking to sign Fleck who will be 33 in August and whose football has been very limited over the last 2 seasons after 2 broken legs and 3 leg operations? The mind boggles - we never ever feckin learn. I think someone in our medical department needs to have the balls to stand up and say this would be a stupid move. -
After 60+ years of supporting Rovers, IMO, Waggott is the worse CEO / Chairman I have seen both in terms of ability and amiability and by some distance.
-
Someone posted about the 'legal side' not being settled. If I recall correctly, did we not end up in court, with costly settlements, over both the Berg and Shaw 'dismissals'? There's little doubt Broughton will know the warts and all about the last two January window debacles where we 'lost' three players (O'Brien, Brierley and McGuire). I think it's quite clear Broughton has been at the exit door since the latter stages of the January window. It would be a fair assumption to think Broughton is more than p1ssed-off having seen his reputation perhaps tarnished. Is Broughton pursuing either an unfair or constructive dismissal claim (seems Waggott was actively involved in player trading in the last window and 'sourced' Eustace)? In my mind, there is little doubt this is not straightforward, hence the delay, and we could be looking down the barrel at yet another costly settlement.

Don't think this will surprise the majority on this MB. Think at best, it will be a survival battle next season and even that may be beyond us if the Indian court case brings about our insolvency. I think Waggott will soon be vilified as much as Kean was. IMO, he is not being straight with the supporters and taking us all for mugs with his weasel words. -
At one stage, in the relative halcyon days of the PL, I had half a dozen season tickets which were used for family and business purposes. Now I have none, and haven't had so for some time, and don't envisage having any in the foreseeable future. The bottom line, IMO, as @roverbluehas pointed out, the match day experience is utter sh1te and I haven't the slightest inclination to waste either my time or money in going to Ewood. I do think the club takes the p1ss out of its supporters who simply don't deserve what has happened under this ownership. If season ticket sales dive and attendances fall even further then it would send out a clear message. Any rational supporter can sit back in the cold light of day and think going forward, they will be able to see circa half the Rovers' games live on tv and for the other games, match day tickets could be bought if wanted. Result - most existing season ticket holders will be at least £200/£300 better off when you weigh-in other factors such as travel, food, drinks etc; add to that the improvements to quality of life (family, time to do other things, no aggravation re-arranging work commitments) and it becomes a no brainer if the match day experience is so poor. Huge, huge changes need making to how we price season tickets and the overall match day experience, however, sadly, I don't think the nous exists at Ewood to see the bigger picture and react accordingly. Worse still, I don't think they care.

I would think he is willing to comply with all Waggott's wishes - another 'yes man'. As you say, only at Rovers!

Think McGuire will only come, IMO to the sh1t show called Rovers, if he has no other options and if he is only half as good as the hype then he should have plenty of options. -

Aye, it's very sad. Back in those days, it also did excellent food. The manager was a real larger than life character called Harry and Howard Kendall and Mick Heaton could often be found in there hence the post promotion party after the Bury win ending up there. -

Get real! I remember when Rovers won promotion at Bury on a Tuesday night back in 1980 and ended up back at Bulls Head, Wilpshire for a big bash and it was a big bash as I was there! That was one night only and I don't know what happened on the next three nights. However, four days later, we played our last match of the season against Bury again but at Ewood Park in front of our adoring fans who wanted a 'promotion party' and we unexpectedly lost and were unrecognisable from the team that clinched promotion just four days early. These things happen and it would be naive to think otherwise! -

Think the reality is that if Leicester had needed a result in that last game then we would be down and Eustace would have been seen to have made a real dog's breakfast of it. I have seen or heard nothing from Eustace to suggest he's his own man, as opposed to a Waggott installed puppet. I don't like his cliche / platitude ridden interviews - to me he's a bullsh1t merchant cut from the same cloth as Kean and Coyle - and I certainly don't see the hunger and ambition we saw with JDT until, IMO, the Raos and Waggott p1ssed him off. I wish I could be more optimistic but I think it will be another relegation strewn battle (and one we are unlikely to win) before ever decreasing Ewood crowds. As for player trading, think our signings will be restricted to the has-beens, the never-will-bes and unwanted (by their parent club) loanees - if they are cheap enough then they will be deemed good enough. At the moment, there is nothing with Rovers that gives me any hope of a brighter future. -
Football is a funny old game - remember West Ham denying United the title on the last day of the season in 1995. Could lightning strike twice and they deny City? Hope they do, would be good for football if Arsenal triumph.

From Jackson's LT article: Sean Kimberley remains at the club as Head of Recruitment. Chief Executive Steve Waggott has previously taken on a hands-on role in negotiating player deals too. This really scares me. Whilst I think Broughton had shortcomings in his abilities, I didn't see anything that would lead me to question his integrity, however, I simply have no trust at all in Waggott, not least following the Brockhall debacle.

Enthusiasm personified where Rovers concerned. Had strong local roots with family business (Graham and Brown Wallpapers) and my goodness it showed in his passion for Rovers. A very decent chap who no doubt will be sadly missed by all he knew. RIP.

Sadly, the lack of nous is not related just to our Commercial Dep.! Notwithstanding that, a huge problem is the product they are trying to sell! Which credible sponsors / companies want to be linked to, IMO, such a shambolic organisation - it's hardly likely to help their profile! Furthermore, as a sponsor or purchaser of corporate facilities, trying to get your customers/clients into your corporate box at Rovers can be very difficult (just not an attractive proposition) - it's not like offering your customers/clients corporate entertainment at City, York races or a Peter Kay concert! It's, IMO, one huge mess and sadly we do not have the calibre of personnel to try and turn it around. -

McGuire will have options as a 'free agent', however, is he really decent (you don't languish in US football if you are) and if he does have options, wtf would he choose, IMO, a shambolic club like Rovers. -
I think the only variable is the cost - how many £millions!? Frightening.
-
Cryptic or otherwise, I think it's quite clear what I meant. As for 'refusing to take questions on', I stated today, as I have done in the past, sometimes there is a limit to what can be posted on a MB without breaking confidences and/or compromising people. I think you are just irked that I may be proven right - just get over it and stop boring folk with your constant wittering.
-
@JHRoveris right. Irrespective of service whether it be 1 year, 5 years or10 years etc, a serious offence merits immediate dismissal. What went on in the January window could have been investigated, legal advice taken and all concluded within a week. Firstly, let's assume this is a Sylvester performance issue, and for me that's one big assumption given it seemingly happened 3 times in 2 consecutive January windows with an experienced administrator! However, assuming it is a performance issue, IMO, it's gross negligence given Sylvester's managerial seniority and the seriousness of the issue(s) which one can only imagine hugely adversely impacted upon the trust and confidence in Sylvester's working relationship with Broughton. Potentially, these are serious, serious issues where events can lead to a destruction in the trust and confidence of the working relationship (Sylvester and Broughton) - should this happen, it could be construed as a breach of contract and categorised as gross misconduct and feet shouldn't touch the ground on departure! I would just love to see the report on the investigation!
-
You really don't get it, do you. I hear / get told some things, just like there are others on this MB who do, and where appropriate (without risk of either breaking confidences or compromising others) I will post if I think there is something in it. If you think Broughton has been an active DOF since February and it's been 'business as usual' for him then I think you are totally deluded. I don't give a feck what you think and if you don't like what I post then just put me on ignore.
-
I'll send you a good book 'How to draw shapes with dots - Step by Step guide for kids and toddlers'! If you think you know something then it has to be 'couched' carefully. I'll say no more.
-
Sorry Chaddy but fairy tales are fairy tales! IMO, we will spend the square root of feck all. Was never convinced by Broughton and posted as such. Think this has been bubbling since Feb - at least Gregg will have a nice pay off and I feel sure his garden is blooming!
-
Yep. IMO, Broughton has been a 'spare part' since Feb and the reasons for his delayed departure are financial.
