Kieran Maguire calls them benevolent owners Fwiw, if we were all pulling in the same direction with a clear plan, communication and owners who gave a shit. The losses wouldn't be so high. I think of it like this. Back in the day you'd see people without 2 pennies to rub together, but they would scrub the front step of their terrace until you could see your face in it. It's about pride and doing the best you can. Not anymore. No pride, nobody in charge cares about succeeding. -

Owning a football club is an exercise in philanthropy, unless you’re 1 of about 5 clubs in the world, who actually make money. If you aren’t willing to fund heavy losses, it ain’t for you. It typically appeals to egos too, hence the likes of Ryan Reynolds at Wrexham. -

The downgrading of the women's team, or even if it was abolished altogether, doesn't upset me per se. It's how it's been handled and what is symbolises. By all accounts, those involved in the team have been treated like crap and communication has been poor. Had the club, last summer, said we'd be unlikely to run the team in the new wsl2 due to the costs, everyone has fair notice. But they didn't, and it's against the rhetoric we've heard of 'owners never fail to write a cheque', or the logic that we've banked £30m+ across 12 months. It's like they're too proud/stubborn/afraid to say 'Rovers are skint, we're watching all the pennies, sorry to the Women's team but we can't afford to run the team's. As for the fans who don't give a toss about the women's team, they should be careful what it could mean down the line. That precious Cat A academy is only kept as such because those running the place are hoping it unearths another Wharton, or at least others to keep modest sums coming in. If it doesn't produce first team players for a couple of seasons, they'll downgrade that too. The club shop will go online only other than match days and those in Row A will get high vis jackets so they can double up as stewards. In the meantime, the board continues to do everything they can to reduce the owners' annual investment, and they probably get rewarded for it. Rant over. - Today

Thought Derby were flush with cash, high on ambition and on the up? As decent as he's been for us, if Weimann is the height of that ambition not sure they'll be much going on with them next season -

In 1913, the main stand at Ewood Park was subject to an arson attack by extremist Suffragettes, targeting it as a symbol of male influence and power etc .... I wonder if we might see history repeat itself ? -

This statement demonstrates he didn't do his research before joining us at all. He has come in naive to the reality here. If he does somehow have us challenging for the playoffs again in January, we all know the script from there. -

Okay - thank you to everyone who has responded. On the losses, I listen to the 'Price of Football' podcast and they have set out how even the best run Championship clubs (better run, bigger gates than us etc) still lose significant money - so whoever took over will need deep pockets to even standstill. -
There's nobody to be sold for more than about 3 million. Travis or Brittain, maybe Tronstad, could feasibly attract something like that. Carter maybe, he was once touted as being worth about 8 mill, but I think his stock has tanked with injuries and loss of form. There is no golden goose anymore since Szmodics and Wharton.

There's certainly some mixed views around the net on the woman's team. Some are very much ,I don't watch them, they lose money and no ones interested in womens football. Some are just very 1950 Others see this as another piece of the foundations being destroyed and are fearful if its the women's team today then what is it tomorrow, next week , next year etc. My own stance is, when I joined the coalition I did so as our club is heading completely in the wrong direction and the lack of accountability is astounding. I can watch and accept this or I can try and be part of something to try and push for positive change. There will be many subjects, issues which I and everyone else will have stronger or weaker opinions on, but I made the choice to be part of unified approach. The women's team has touched the panel at all different trigger points, however to say nothing is accepting what will be will be. I fully support the coalitions panel in their actions this week in talking to staff and players who this has affected and publicly condemning the unprofessional way this has been handled by the club. When representing the AG in meetings, many times I've put across points strongly to the club which may not mirror my own thoughts, however when I chose to form the AG I gave up my own personal views to act in the best interest of the membership at all times. I appreciate the Woman's team in isolation doesn't strike a chord with all, but I try and always look at things holistically and the symbol a decision like this has on future behaviours, actions by those at the club and the owners. The club is doing a fantastic job of writing their own bad press and in this instance they've impacted many lives and dreams with zero empathy or regard. -

Whoever was going to buy the club, would want a deep dive into the accounts and also the history of when the current owners bought it and what went on. This in my view is the biggest reason for them not selling, as I suspect they are scared of what that would uncover. Again, this is my opinion, but I suspect if they saw who is on the payroll and what they are doing to justify their wage, then it would give them some real explaining to do. For what it's worth, if someone came in with funds to invest and had a properly structured plan and they really got to the bottom of where the £20m really goes, they could find a way of keeping things relatively lean and probably give us a chance of returning to the premier league. Lets face it, we have had every little financial backing for the last 2 years and a bit, yet nearly made the play offs in 2 out of the last 3 seasons. if the new owners know how to read send instead of save and get a loan over the line on deadline day, without falling foul of missing deadlines by a couple of minutes, that could be all it takes. -

The bulk of it will have although no doubt further instalments are due. Didn't the accounts get signed off because there was enough guaranteed income for about 12 months ? It also said large owner support would be required to keep trading beyond that ! There's goin to have to be a player or two sold pretty soon i'd wager.

Is this the bit where "we can't compete" with what Derby are offering (ignoring our billionaire ownership and the fact they are skint and were in admin a few years ago, and we'd go the same way as them if Venkys ever left)? -

It's not so much who he's gone in for, it's more that he's started looking at the Rovers squad and trying to tempt some to Derby. 4 of our key players are out of contract in 12months and Eustace knows he'll be able to get them for a pittance because we're a financial wreck. I like Weimann but age and injuries are against him for sure. Be happy for him to sign up for another season if he proves his fitness. Not world ending stuff if he goes to Derby though -
