Venky’s (& Suhail) Out Protest Ideas
lraC replied to DuffsLeftPeg's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
One thing to say on this and granted we don’t know the extent of this yet. If as you say, this has come about, as a result of the fans forum explosion. Here we are after one meeting, where we hard hitting minutes, yet we have some people saying it’s unfair having a go about version 1 or minutes from previous minutes. Would this have happened, had version 1 been allowed to stand? -

I thought we did okay today. Hendrickson should have been off after 15mins, got lucky there. I think the most disappointing part is that we chased the game for a long time and were pretty pathetic creating chances. We need a right winger and another striker Monday morning. Missing Cantwell hurt. When are we going to stop pretending that Kargbo isn’t our best player. Seriously. Total embarrassment bringing him on at half time every week when we have no punch. You carry a player like that. - Today

It's not as simple as that is it? If we went 1 nil up just before half time, the second half could have been totally different to the way it played out with us being 1 nil down. -

For all the moaning about VAR, the scoreline is probably reversed today if we had access to it. -

To be fair, although some of the foundations may have been in place, Ismael certainly did an excellent job at Barnsley to finish 5th. He had a very direct style there and it was really effective. He also was a trendsetter in using the newly allowed 5 subs during covid really aggressively, he would burn out the starters for 60 and always make wholesale changes. He seems to have totally moved away from those successful traits though. Whether its the higher expectations at the clubs since, or the fact that it feels like results are almost becoming secondary in how managers are judged/how likely they are to be employed. It feels nowadays that youd be more attractive to a chairman and a club if you finished 14th but playing "pretty" high possession football over rough housing your way to 5th. Today we dominated the ball but didnt create a single decent chance. Boring to watch and ineffective. -
I very much doubt that with the present squad 😭

I know I wasn't, I watched the first half on Sky at 7.30pm last night, I recorded the whole game, I have not watched the second half yet. I could not hear any anti Venky chants... -

Just noted that Gerhard Struber is the new manager at Bristol City who have just walloped Sheff Utd 4-1 away. Did them on the break with quick incisive football where everyone was on the same page. Ismael is often revered because of what he did at Barnsley but he was the successor of Struber who had built that team and mentality prior before moving on to New York Red Bulls. Bristol have done well to get him, they could do very well this season. -

Think biggest issue with these wholesale changes is we finished 7th last season. Anything less this season and we've gone backwards. Its still a results business, and this aint the Brentford model that has been claimed before. They buy players for the future as does Brighton., they dont just throw them in for sink or swim. We need some championship experience or its gonna be a painful first half of the season until these learn on job. -

I don't post the following to be controversial or make a point, but I was busy today and where I would usually check the score every 5 minutes I saw us losing after 20 and checked result after 90. I've stopped caring. If you haven't, then that's great, but I honestly have started to lose interest. I also don't post this as a response to us losing, we could have won 4 zip and I think I would have had the same level of reaction. I'll probably attend 3 or 4 away games again this year but my interest in the club is waning. -

About 10 goals across the season in that 11. 8 defensive players and nobody to lead the line -

Didn’t see the game as I was in Manchester today, Games like these will be the story of our season, lacking any genuine quality in the final third and hoping for a miracle. -

Feels like our 'squad building' has been more about putting out fires than trying to strengthen areas that needs improvement: - Batth went so we signed McLoughlin (even if the club won't admit it) - JRC got sold and we brought in Alebiosu (perhaps a slight improvement and I guess it was part of the transfer plan as well) - Brittain got sold and we brought in Miller (pretty damn obvious this was a contingency plan they had in place which got immediately triggered once the bid for Brittain was accepted; a downgrade from the perspective of offensive contributions) - Weimann left so we signed Henriksson (time will tell if this is an upgrade or not) - Signed De Neve to provide competion at left wing position with Kargbo (worried that this is a "Hedges-type" signing who works hard and tracks back but lacks an end product; cheap signing but not an upgrade for the team) - Signed Tavares to provide competition for central midfield spots (probably the only real upgrade to the side once he gets match fit since I suspect he will be a replacement for Buckley) Here's what I think the squad planning has gone wrong though: - We had more than 30 days to sign a replacement for Dolan on the right wing before the opening game but failed to do so, leaving Hedges as the only option. - We have failed to sign a proper striker to compete with Gueye - We have failed to realise that Ohashi can't operate as a lone striker as he's a) not quick enough and b) doesn't have the physicality to compete with Championship defenders - Had we signed a proper striker, it would have made sense to move Ohashi to an attacking midfield role instead and compete with Cantwell We are short of options up front and on the right hand side which must be resolved before window closes. Getting a striker in now will not be easy; we might have to consider loaning in someone from a PL side. - William Osula (Newcastle): quite pacey, 6'3 striker who had limited gametime last season. Bought for big money from Sheffield Utd. a couple of seasons ago. Needs a loan to develop. Newcastle will likely not sanction a move before they have gotten replacements in for Wilson and (probably) Isak. - Chido Obi (Man Utd); probably needs a loan move now that they signed Sesko. - Grady Diangana (free); released by WBA, decent right winger and probably an upgrade on Dolan in terms of goals/assists. Has English citizenship so no issue regarding ESC-spots. Decent resale value as well given he's 27 years old. -

He was solid. Nothing special but out performed his role beyond others in their positions. Second half he made 2 good interceptions stopping them on the break. -

My response was to a poster who said " Ryan Alebiosu shouldn't be near the team either" Do you agree? Otherwise not sure why you've quoted me? On the balanced he was comfortably one of the better performers for us (there weren't many). -
