RevidgeBlue Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Can someone please explain the Mido to Middlesborough transfer to me? Two weeks ago, a fee of £6m was agreed between Spuds and Brum. Mido couldn't agree terms with Brum, so returns to Spurs. There were no games for him to play in and he didn't feature in any preaseason games from what I gather. Fast forward to today, Middlesborough come in with a fee believed to be £6.8m (and possibly rising to £7.5m). What has changed in those two weeks where Mido has done sweet FA? Do Middlesborough really have the worlds worst negotiators working for them? Or do Spuds happen to have the best? Makes my head spin. I read somewhere the fee had been inflated by 1m because Boro had had to compete with Sunderland for his signature.

RevidgeBlue Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Right so if I'd sold my house to you rev for £200,000 4 years ago and now it's worth £300,000 would you expect me to come round with my cap out for some more money? Of course not, and Porto can't come back at us for more money because McCarthy had a good season last year either!
Torgeir Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 But we could be the top 4 this year, im not reading much into it. I was only speculating what the word 'complicated' meant when he was referring to Gamst's buy-out clause. No matter how complicated it may or may not be, the fact that he has one is worrying - I only hope the fee is at least £15 million. How many other players have clauses like this that we don't yet know about? I strongly doubt we'll be in the top 4 this year, but we're certainly capable of winning silverware in other competitions.

tcj_jones Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Watch Spurs this season. Jol's greed with signing players that are not strictly necessary will hamper rather than help. If a squad does not have a hierarchy, it is a recipe for dissatisfaction and flagging morale. Furthermore, it can pressurise the manager into rotating his squad excessively just to keep talented but under-used players happy, having bad consequences results-wise. VERY good point here Rover6. I totally agree. You could argue that it has already taken its toll in the first two fixtures. Having Keane, Berbatov and Bent in the same starting XI just isn't going to work. You look at Spurs strike force and it is incredible and don't get me wrong, I think Bent is an extremely good player, but if they'd have spent the money used to buy Bent on midfielders and maybe another defender, they could be up there with the top four. But their midfield has been exposed for the shambles that it is. Kinda funny when you think that Spurs once had enough midfielders to comprise three sides.
nicko Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 On the Mido fee. Sunderland and Middlesbrough both had £6 million fees agreed over a week ago. The player then indicated he wanted to go to Boro. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who drives a hard bargain, then told Boro last weekend that the Sunderland offer was really worth £7.5 million because of installments they had on top of the £6 million...obviously £500,000 every season they stay up. Boro did not want to pay this, Sunderland said they would honour the extra payments. Mido said he only wanted to go to Boro, so they eventually reached a compromised of £6.8 million which includes all add-ons. Now Mido's agent wants a staggering fee, around £1 million, so there is yet another hold-up. After watching Boro last night they will need more than Mido. How they can spend that on him when they need defenders is beyond me. Still, I tipped them for the drop so I should be happy. Yakubu has to go, he looked disinterested. Gareth Southgate has a big job on there. Good job the chairman put so much faith in him...
roversmum Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 They panned in on Mido watching the match. He didn't look too happy.....................
tchocky Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Now Mido's agent wants a staggering fee, around £1 million, so there is yet another hold-up. "Hey Mido, I've put at least 30 hours into this transfer of yours, not to mention racking up a huge phonebill along the way.".
Torgeir Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Strangely, your post is the only mention of a buy out in Gamst's contract.... I meant 'he' as in Gamst's agent but the clause is according to 'Verdens Gang', Norway's biggest tabloid - I couldn't remember the exact details yesterday. Here's a translation of one of the paragraphs in the paper edition: "To VG's knowledge, everything is now up to Blackburn: A complicated buy-out clause formulated in the contract between Gamst and Blackburn doesn't come into play this season."

Here's a translation of one of the paragraphs in the paper edition: "To VG's knowledge, everything is now up to Blackburn: A complicated buy-out clause formulated in the contract between Gamst and Blackburn doesn't come into play this season." Your information will be correct. Hauge has always used VG as a vehicle for leaking information. It sounds like the classic 'give us a new contract' play, but I would not be too concerned. If MGP does well this season he will get a big contract, if not he probably won't. Clauses can work either way and if there is a year before it kicks in, so be it. A lot can happen between now and then...
robborover Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 this situation is becoming very annoying. it seems that hauge is making rovers' life harder and that gamst is fairly happy (judging by his comments). after-all we'll all except more money! what i don't understand is did arsenal actually make a bid?

I wouldn't get too concerned. If Arsenal or Tottenham had bid I think it would have gone 'nuclear' by now. I have had my doubts about the story from the first and I have a feeling it is agent talk and an excuse to let people know the 'secret clause' that kicks in a year from now. It is a classic negotiating ploy. It happens. Fear not.

No they didn't according to Arsene Wenger yesterday, who answered no when asked. So Ped's agent is just doing his job playing on rumours and trying to get his client a best possible deal. Anyway, I've seen several interviews with Gamst, and he always cclaims to be flattered by other clubs interest, but claims he is happy at Rovers and has never given any indication of wanting to leave. I think he realises he's not good enough for the top 4 anyway.
robborover Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 i agree and understand. but it is frustrating when we are all hoping for a new signing and preparing for our match tonight. in that case gamst should ditch hauge and i'll negotiate him a better deal without upsetting everyone
Ronin Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 I guess expect the same rubbish in the press (no offence Nicko ) when we play the likes of Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea etc.
artemorethanlabore Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 According to danish press, the youngster Adda Djeziri impressed in training but since theres a difference in the valuation of the player and only half a year remains of Addas contract, Rovers may just wait it out.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 The only way I wouldnt mind if Gamst was sold now.... is if we got Matt Taylor from Pompey to replace him... better attacking than he is defensively, even though he gets played at RB, is a good crosser of the ball, scores spectacular goals (ala Gamst) & for some reason keeps getting put on the bench for Pompey at the mo...

robborover Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 i'm really not a matty taylor fan. i just think he's lucky, better than downing, and left-footed. he does score good goals though. i think that in the event that mgp leaves we should look abroad.
CAPT KAYOS Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 i think that in the event that mgp leaves we should look abroad. I don't, I say take a look at the young lad who came on as a 2nd half sub for Boro last Saturday
Eddie Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Far too late in the day to sell Pedersen now. The player we could have replaced him with, Petrov, has already moved clubs. I would have understood had we sold him then and made a nice little profit there, but with no good left-sided midfielder obviously available we would be putting ourselves in a dangerous position. Personally I think MGP would be a good player to sell at some point simply because I think his market value could well end up being well above what it should be. I like him as a player and I'd be sad to see him leave, but his spectacular goals have a lot of people thinking he's a much better player than he really is and it could really work in our favour if we lined up a good replacement.
Mozzer Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 we need a central midfielder badly i think, against good teams i fear savage and dunn will get ran over, i only feel comfortable when reid is playing.. with mido going boro, is yakubu any more to leaving boro, i fear for boro this season.. any more transfers that could be happening, with rovers or any other club???
thenodrog Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 We need to be finding a replacement for Pederson now. Whether Peter is ready or is ever going to be ready I don't know, but Peds given a few years of decent to good service and the time will soon be ripe to move him on. Also it puts pressure on him to play better, and increases his value before we sell him. Simple. Next....
S15 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Wow you really do know it all don't you. Bet your a barrel of laughs in the pub on a friday night.
