The Prof. Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Just wonder were the focus of the manager is in bringing Robbie to the club at this stage of his career, when we have weaknesses in other departments especially after we've just lost our most creative player to Spurs and signed somebody off youtube, effin great. I see this thread as a challenge to the manager and... his judgment. For me, i ask what is the manager playing at. Well I'm just wondering who is actually in charge at the moment - if it ain't Ince I think we'll be looking for another manager by the big kick off.
JAL Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 I don't expect Fowler to come good but I reckon there is a 25% chance he could become a potent proposition coming off the bench. Nice to have this thread here in the happy event that happens. Probabilities pHilipl for success 25% you've just answered my question thank you. A potent probability of only.... 25%... we need a lot higher somewhere in the 80- 90% region SURELY, thats the type of player we need, not one that comes off the bench but one that starts the game and finishes it ....victorious in a blue and white jersey.

And we ain't paid for him so its a free roll at the casino.
T4E Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 No it's not - it's a substitution that could have been better used with someone with more than a 1 in 4 chance of doing anything worthwhile.
philipl Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 No it's not - it's a substitution that could have been better used with someone with more than a 1 in 4 chance of doing anything worthwhile. Who? Rigters? Gallagher?
rebelmswar Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Who? Rigters? Gallagher? Prime reason not to take in more bench warmers.
JAL Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 And we ain't paid for him so its a free roll at the casino. So what your implying is its all a jolly, for me its far more serious than that.
T4E Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Who? Rigters? Gallagher? Both equally useless as Fowler, but both young enough to improve. Or are you suggesting that, since we already have 2 ineffective forwards needlessly taking up a wage, we might as well have a third?
JAL Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 Who? Rigters? Gallagher? Which raises another question why are they still here - QUALITY you've mentioned it philipl in previous posts thats what we need.
American Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Philip did suggest that us buying Righters was a big reason we had our best squad ever last season. I'm sure he wouldn't suggest Fowler go above him in the pecking order.
philipl Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Always a good reason to look at a no cost alternative to do better
rebelmswar Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Always a good reason to look at a no cost alternative to do better So you think Rigters is crap?
frosty Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Agree...it's a waste of time and will only take the place of people like Derbyshire on the bench.
my_name_is_Earl Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Fowler should not even be considered if we're being honest. I know a lot of you have pointed out the good point that he is available on a free but I just can't see the positives of this deal if any contract materialises. We already have four good strikers and if Gally is the fifth and Ince wants rid, then we should be looking at younger talent. I try to see the biggest positive of this move which would be the fact that he has a great premiership strike record albeit a few years ago, and then weigh it up with the biggest negative of this move which would be the fact that we are seemingly considering an ancient striker who is well out of form over younger, more energetic forwards. The message that this consideration sends out is that the club are not moving forward and we seemingly have a manager who doesn't know the balance of the squad. We should not be signing players for no reason even as squad players. Ince and Williams should follow the strategy of securing good, solid, first team players albeit, less frequently as we successfully did with Hughes. For those who would argue that we need a bigger squad to cope with the new 7 on a bench policy, I would suggest that we use this to breed our younger players. After all, you can still only make three substitutions. I'm still firmly behind Ince and his new signings and I don't think that it will be the end of the world if indeed we do sign Fowler. However, as optimistic as you want to be, you sometimes have to face reality. The be all and end all of this particular situation is that we should be looking to strengthen and not weaken our squad.
scotchrover Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Agree fully. Paul Ince should stop doing favours for old mates and start managing the team properly I remember us trying to sign him of Liverpool a couple of years ago.
thenodrog Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I don't expect Fowler to come good but I reckon there is a 25% chance he could become a potent proposition coming off the bench. I think you missed the decimal point out Gunner! On the face of it there is no damage done in 'having a look' at Fowler BUT in reallity we are attracting scorn and ridicule from the rest of the footballing world. Manning had it right when Fowler played for Dodge City "If it had been Fowler who had taken 12 shots at John Lennon he would still be alive today......"

Manning had it right when Fowler played for Dodge City "If it had been Fowler who had taken 12 shots at John Lennon he would still be alive today......" I agree, we are heading for a lot of "scorn and ridicule" with Ince's "interviews", Robbie Fowler on trial, Paul Robinson in goal, a fourth division management team and an interest in signing Keith Andrews. I remember laughing my head off at Bolton with Sammy Lee, I get the feeling that's gonna come back round on me... I hope I'm wrong and we have a cracking season but let's face it, the signals coming from the club this Summer are horrible...
thenodrog Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I hope I'm wrong and we have a cracking season but let's face it, the signals coming from the club this Summer are horrible... The p1ss takes started with giving Steve bloody Maclaren an interview..... I didn't realise then that it was going to get so much worse.
Majiball Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 OK, lads don't worry I've found this and we'll be OK http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=802536 you just know the mystery club is us!!
alexanders Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 No, Newcastle. Old Ronaldo was a superb player when Kevin Keegan was in charge last time.
leftfooter Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 This thread isn't worthy of a BRFC Supporters (sic) Internet Site. Shame on you...
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Has a well past his best Fowler more to offer than Cruz,McCarthy,Roberts or Derbyshire? I just cant see the point in offering him a contract,he would be better off retiring and looking after his many property investments.
