Kelbo Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Will you be putting it in the People tomorrow too nicko? Doubt it, the People is only published on a Sunday, maybe in the Mirror though
Bobby G Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 My bad. Lost track of days. I thought it was Saturday for some reason!
Billy Castell Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Great. No money, a manager who may want to leave, a takeover that is not going anywhere...............I see Paul Ince is out of work.
allanncd Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Sam deserting a sinking ship for some desert rats. Good luck to him. Bunch of has-beens and never-wases kicking a bladder round in the sand. Which prestigious competition with wprldwide exposure do they play in? Didn't do anything for Carlos's WC prospects with Chile. Hasn't Allardyce trousered enough money already?

In all fairness here, Sam is on a hiding to nothing, no money, cant sign players and has to remain around mid table!!! Thats a big ask and if he is sacked if we were to be relegated, his stock goes down!! Sam is in a no win situation and I dont blame him, he has done wonders with no money and he has been kicked in the teeth with this years budget!
CrazyIvan Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Erm, some comments are somewhat premature... All betting says Allardyce will still be Rovers manager come season start.
1864roverite Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 We have more to worry about a new link to the England job never mind to some middle east outfit !!!
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Big Sam isn't the man of the moment to be considered the England manager. IF Capello were to resign then it would either be Hodgemister or Harry saggy face
Steve Moss Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Sam deserting a sinking ship for some desert rats. Good luck to him. Bunch of has-beens and never-wases kicking a bladder round in the sand. Which prestigious competition with wprldwide exposure do they play in? Didn't do anything for Carlos's WC prospects with Chile. Hasn't Allardyce trousered enough money already? I don't think this is true but if it were, I couldn't blame him. He's done well for the team. Rather than build on that, and sign a couple of relatively modestly priced players quickly, Lewandowski (a transfer fee but not break the bank wages) and, maybe, Guti(no transfer fee but high wages), everything has been placed on hold due to a prospective take over. They are giving Same very little chance to build on his succesful season. The Board did not do right by Hughes and he left. Can we blame Sam if he elected, hypothetically, to do the same? To be clear, I don't think Sam is a want away. I percieve him as being a manager who wants to build, however slowly, but despite apparent assurances at the beginning of this window nothing has happened. I'd be frustrated too.
broadsword Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Managing this club is a pretty much thankless task. I'm sure if there's was someone on the horizon who had more money, and really wanted him, then Allardyce would be off like a shot. He has no allegiance to us, and who would blame him? It's human nature.
ABBEY Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 he showed that at bolton bryan. alls he cares about is himself.oh and the brown bags stuffed with wonga.
broadsword Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Well, he'd get plenty out in the middle east. No tax to pay I'm guessing. They'd probably open an offshore account for him and he could stay there long enough to get non-dom UK tax status and not pay a bean in tax.
whiteinpeace Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I can't see Sam going out there. He may not be happy with the situation with you guys, but I get the impression he still thinks he is "owed" a big job somewhere!
LDRover Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 He had his 'big job' at the toon and whichever way you look at it f###ed it up. Whether he likes it or not, the Rovers job (or equivalent) is his level. If he's still got delusions of grandeur and can find another more attractive position then good luck to him...and to the club that takes him on.
John Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 IMO when Sam does leave us, we are certain to decline, as will be very challenging to get a decent manager in.

nicko Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I can't be bothered waiting until 11, so... The Big Sam story has a lot of truth about it. I believe he has already spoken to them but the compo would be a problem. The wages are massive. Wonder if Rovers would just let him go? Mark Hughes is in the frame, Marcelo Lippi still favoured. However intriguingly the talks are being brokered by an agent friend of the manager - and the guy recruiting for Al Ahli is called Mark Bell who was once player liaison officer at Bolton Wanderers. We have not heard the last of this one.
LeChuck Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 IMO when Sam does leave us, we are certain to decline, as will be very challenging to get a decent manager in. Almost certain decline in my opinion, I can't think of anyone who could come in. I think Sam would take in a shot to be honest, his health means he isn't going to go on into his sixties like some, if he can make big money out there then I think he'll take it.
Bobby G Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Very disappointing to hear that Sam has already spoken to them. Ill be honest Im an advocate of loyalty in football, but I dont blame him one bit. He must be frustrated at the "dead end" nature of the job. Its a lose lose situation with Rovers if we have no money to spend at all. Can he repeat what he did last season with the same players? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
nicko Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 If they are so loaded, why would compo be a problem? Very few foreign clubs like paying compo...they have a budget for a coach and that's for his wages. And two of his main rivals are free.
Bobby G Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Maybe it will act as a wake up call for Rovers to make a decision on how to proceed on the take-over, or at least let the manager use his meagre funds during its course. I still dont think Al Ahli would take him, as he isnt one of those elegant names. Lippi is favorite I tell you.
LDRover Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Never mind him---what about us? We just carry on regardless 47er. For all those extolling the virtues of Sam and the 'miracle' job he has done - consider the fact that our wage bill last season was 11th highest in the league and we came 10th. That hardly suggests a job of miracle proportions - good effort yes, miracle no. Sam is without doubt a big self publicist and his own biggest fan but he's not as good a manager as he likes to think. That's not to say I want rid of him, I'm not his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination but to lose him would bring an instability that I don't think we could withstand.

I think what would be fairer is to judge the job of the manager you need to include wages PLUS transfer fees. IMO Sam has done an amazing job, 10th ahead of the likes of Sunderland who have spent millions, Sam has had to sell top class players and replaced them with youth team players who will no doubt be sold in the future for large sums of money.
