The1mattjansen Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I think they had twins over a year ago (both boys I think). I had a run in with Alan Smith in his Leeds days outside Ewood - he threw a pen at me and threatened to kick the F$%K out of me. Lovely man. Haha, I was stood there aswell that day. Must have been stood right beside you.

Billy Castell Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Had a major run in with a rugby player in Malaga a good few years back. I was in the RN paying a visit when we were out on the lash and met up with Jonathan Davies and Martin Offiah. We ahd a good old beer drinking session but then it all got nasty mentioning the welsh, egg chasing and sheep. we ended up nose to nose and until Offiah got his big head stuck in it went off big style only for the on call Mp's to break things up. the guy was a clown, a big head and nothing more than a welsh windbag Talking of rugby players my sister met Zinzan Brooke in a nightclub. His missus had apparently just had a kid, and he had some random slapper on his arm. The conversation went like this: "you're Zinzan Brooke aren't you?" "No I'm not" "Yeah you are" [slapper]"He isn't just ____ off." My sister was drunk, but apparently it was him. How come Alan Smith wanted to beat you up then Leftwinger?
Blue n White Rover Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Had a little arguement with Craig Bellamy after the Liverpool game. We beat them 1-0 with Benni scoring, and as Bellamy was going back on to the coach I chanted "Bellamy what's the score, Bellamy Bellamy what's the score?". He came up to me and said " You should show a bit more respect to a player that's helped you get into Europe". I replied by saying "Maybe if you stayed longer than a season and didn't lie to us fans about ya contract clause we wouldn't be here would we you idiot, anyway walk on (this point he turned his back and walked off), and Craig, thanks for the 3 points". He then stopped signing autographs and walked straight onto the team coach.
Billy Castell Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Good comeback blueandwhite. I've never met any football players, but my dad has kept a clean sheet against former Scotland international John Spencer. I'm sure that Dale Tempest who does the Skybet stuff on SSN was playing too. After all, its hardly a common name.
jim mk2 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I had that Dennis Wise in the back of my cab once. Took the mickey out of his accent so he beat me up.
Hughesy Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I was fortunate enough (or was i?) to meet Morten Gamst Pedersen after the Liverpool game at home this year. Anyway, we talked and talked because we offered to get a bigger table so he and his parents (yes, thats right) could sit with us. He was more than happy to and we chatted the night away. I met Gamst at the awards evening and must say he was a funny bloke. Really sound to get on with and a great laugh (except for having a hold of the birds bum on a pic). It was also funny when at the awards do they played his pop video, to which his team mates were in stiches about (They obviously hadnt seen it before).
colin Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I had that Dennis Wise in the back of my cab once. Took the mickey out of his accent so he beat me up. Nice one Jim.
Grabbi Graeme Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I met John Williams (I know he's not a footballer), he was on a train I was on earlir this year, it was the day after we beat Sunderland in the cup, seemed a nice bloke and very friendly and chatty. I work on railway and I was given the task of escorting the players from their coach to the train when they were travelling to Glasgow to play Celtic in UEFA cup, Dwight Yorke was last to get on as he was on the phone, maybe talking to Jordan. Also met Gordon Banks a couple times, very nice bloke. When I have been round Blackburn town centre at night I have met Dunny who is just one of the lads, Damien Duff who is down to earth, and Keith Gillespie who had a woman draped on each arm.
Mc Love Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Met a load of players when i was in the players lounge in 1999. Duffer was very nice, sound young lad at the time, not much older than me. His folks were there too. Met Matt Jansen, John Filan(Sound out)
HairwayToSteven Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Brede Hangeland of Fulham broke my toe some... 8 years ago, the @#/?. Seriously though, a more down to earth guy you'll likely never meet -- quiet and serious. Oh, and there was absolutely no getting past the guy, and the passing was spectacular. Best player I've come across (duh). A year older than myself. Don't think I could get him mad even if I tried.
KoNG Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I've met Mark Schwarzer. He was back in Oz sorting some some marine based approvals for a new house he's bought on sydney harbour. Don't think he was ready for the onslaught of questions i had at the conclusion of our meeting. I think he may have also been back for a world cup qualifier, but it was definately when the rumours were circulating of his leaving boro. I was probing for answers and he was forthcoming with nearly everything, except of course any transfer. I guess he also didn't want to cause any angst with approval for his water structures. Top guy though, we chatted for 15 minutes or so. I tried to get him to agree lucas was a knob, but he wouldn't have it. Haha.
stuwilky Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I had breakfast in the same room as the Wisla Krakow players the day we beat them in Poland. Go me. (and the others who were there!)
Martin Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I've bumped into a few guys over the last few years, some minor and some a little more minor. Tried to get into a pub to watch the CL final and were turned away along with Graham Kavanagh and Ian Harte. Both absolutely fine about it. I was with a Stoke fan at the time (wearing Stoke shirt) and GK couldn't help himself but start chatting away. Real pleasant guy.
brightonrover Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 For you older readers, I remember Billy Bremner came to Ewood post Leeds as player-manager with a Yorkshire team (Rotherham?) and I excitedly ran on the pitch at the end of the game to get his autograph (as you could in those days) when he told me (about four or five years old) to "F**k Off! Since heard lots of similar stories about him, lovely bloke.
LeftWinger Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 How come Alan Smith wanted to beat you up then Leftwinger? We'd just beaten Leeds at Ewood and Smith missed a penalty - very weak one saved by Friedel. After the game he was coming out of the ground and I decided to wind him up about his penalty (Probably a childish thing to do, but I was only about 16). He signed something for a little girl and then through her pen at me. It missed me - and I only wish I'd have been quick enough to suggest that was the second pen he'd missed with today. He was pretty angry though, the stewards got in between us pretty quickly. Like I said - I was probably as much to blame as him - but I still can't stand the man. His exact words were "If I was the other side of this fence, I'd kick the F%$K out of you".
alexanders Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 only wish I'd have been quick enough to suggest that was the second pen he'd missed with today. Have played against John Carew once in a small football field outside some blocks around Oslo. This was the time before he was a professional and he came around as a very nice guy.
broadsword Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 lovely bloke. oh God yeah, very much loved outside of Yorkshire.
bats Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 A few years ago I met Beckham when he was at United and honestly he was one of the nicest footballers I've met, having pictures and signing autographs for pretty much everyone. However Scholes and Van Nistlerooy ignored all the fans and young kids and went straight onto the bus, they were very rude, even Fergie stopped to sign autographs. Probably the nicest football personality I met was Kevin Keegan.
jny Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Its not very good but I went past Peter Beardsley in the supermarket and he said ''hi'' to me. He was bumbling around and looked a bit frail
tcj_jones Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Nearest I've come to meeting a footballer is seeing David Thompson making a speedy exit from Ewood in the cup semi final against Man UTD. Two kids asked between them 'is that Thommo?', before getting an autograph. I think they asked him why he wasn't playing and he said something along the lines of 'Hughes thinks this game is too important for me'. Two minutes previously, I'd put my programme away at the bottom of y bag aong with my pen. I didn't get an autgraph and he never played for the club again. Other than that, I touched Bentley's arm when he jumped in the crowd at Charlton in the cup and I THINK I saw Steve Claridge at London Waterloo underground station.
Ozz Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I once stood next to Gary Megson, when he was WBA boss, waiting to pay for clothes at Selfridges in Manchester. And have had business from Jussi Jaaskalinen and James Milner in recent months.
super_arran Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I met Mick McCarthy last year in Las Vegas, he was pretty friendly. He posed for some pictures with some of the lads I was with; but then had to rush off to "catch a plane" course you did mick
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I once stood next to Gary Megson, when he was WBA boss, waiting to pay for clothes at Selfridges in Manchester. And have had business from Jussi Jaaskalinen and James Milner in recent months. Strange choice of phrase. You're not a rent boy are you?
OJRovers Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Derbs is a friendly guy, a few of us met him in the flower shop buying Mother's day flowers the day after he scored the winner at Newcastle last season. We'd just rolled in having stayed in Newcastle. He was smiling at the state of us, but we said that his goal made it a much better night!
Grabbi Graeme Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Derbs is a nice friendly bloke, he used to go in Mill Hill Club every once in while.
