thenodrog Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Who is bankrolling Stoke? They are involved in more than half of the transfer stories... Chairman owns Bet24 which I am told is currently the fastest growing company in the UK. Bllody sad state of affairs for the nation if a flaming gambling outfit can claim that.

alexanders Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 nyone we should consider? 14.04 Werder Bremen have allowed Jurica Vranjes, Dusko Tosic and Kevin Schindler to leave the club on loan.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Short sighted for not spending money on an unproven player? We don't have money to throw away. There is no guarantee that Moses can do it in the Prem, that's why he's gone to Wigan and not a bigger club. Is the sort of player that you would like to sign going to be happy sitting on Rovers bench waiting for Kalinic to get injured or suspended? In comparison to Diouf/Roberts/Beattie/Benjani/Dindane.....YES! EDIT: now read the last bit properly. Of course Moses would sit on a bench for a while. However, as he can play on the wing as well he probably wouldn't have to!
Eddie Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 13.48 Rumours coming in from Portugal suggest that Portsmouth are close to signing Manuel Fernandes on loan from Valencia. This is a loan-signing I would like. Agreed
LeChuck Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 "1416: I'm getting a severe sense of deja vu from September now: Egyptian club ENPPI have turned down another offer from Sunderland for winger Ahmed Al-Muhammadi, according to the player's agent." That's the guy we were linked with last season isn't it? The Egyptian David Beckham? It'll be interesting to see how he fares if he does end up going there.
den Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 SSN reporter in Manchester saying Rovers talking to City and want Benjani.
RevidgeBlue Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 SSN still seem to think we are engaged in a race against the 5p.m. deadline to bring Benjani in.
thenodrog Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 according to ssn dindane is actually in manchester for talks? Can his sat nav not find Ewood Park?
mogster Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Ha ha. The SSN reporter in the North West just said 'Blackburn Rovers fans, be assured that Big Sam is trying to get a striker in - and that striker is Benjani'. He said it all with a straight face too
nicko Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 DINDANE...too many agents, too little time. BENJANI...didn't his medical take so long when he joined Man City that old Thaksin extended the deadline and broke the rules to get him?...surely you are not going down that road. BEATTIE...other clubs in, no-one agreeing a fee. Farce.
G Somerset Rover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'm guessing that we're going on geographical location rather than talent now. It was always going to be a race against time when leaving your dealings until the last minute. So from that Nicko I'm guessing that we're gonna end up with nobody? Your right it is a farce - the club have known that Benni would leave all month. Why wait until the last day? Amateurs.
LeChuck Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Am I the only one hoping we don't sign anyone today? I'd rather keep the money and saved wages for the summer, when prices are cheaper and deals can be negotiated properly. Benni was playing as an attacking midfielder (Dunn's role) anyway, so with Basturk coming in we're not any lighter in that department. Sam's lengthy search for a striker last summer ended with Kalinic - a young, exciting player. I'd rather we took our time and tried for something similar again, rather than just someone for the sake of it. We could have the likes of Reid off our books too, so we'll have more freedom in deciding.
Fife Rover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 am i the only who prefers, that we save the money.? with the league table in mind and the fact we only play 1 striker, i really dont feel its a necessety. in emergency situations, put samba upfront. No you're not the only one Greco. I agree that to just go out and spend what little money we have right now with the absolute dearth of choice and the rip-off prices/wages would be very foolish. It is far better to save what we have in the way of cash now and can save till August on Benni's wages and the wages of the various others that have left and not been replaced. This makes much more sense than just going out and blowing it all now for little or no benefit. I believe we can hold our own with what we have now, especially if our two new additions to midfield (or even one) comes good in a short time. And in the time between now and August we should be scouring the world for any likely bargain improvements that we can get in for quickly as soon as the next window opens.

Your right it is a farce - the club have known that Benni would leave all month. Why wait until the last day? Amateurs. Well we did know benni was off but he only joined west ham today. It was always going to come down to this. And lets face it if the best that could come out of the next 3/4 hours is either Benjani or Dindane then we're not really losing much if nothing happens. If we were on the verge of capturing a decent player then id be far more anxious.

Exiled_Rover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Living in Rome's prob an attraction. Well that and Lazio are a massive club.
BRFCBOY Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 from shearer to sutton to jansen to bellamy to mccarthy to santa cruz and now to benjani ???? dunno whether laugh or cry
Barney Blue Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 DINDANE...too many agents, too little time. BENJANI...didn't his medical take so long when he joined Man City that old Thaksin extended the deadline and broke the rules to get him?...surely you are not going down that road. BEATTIE...other clubs in, no-one agreeing a fee. Farce. I seem to remember Benjani falling asleep and missing his train to Manchester when he signed for City. He did eventually get there but it was very touch & go and did seem to happen after the midnight deadline. That was the same window where Defoe went to Pompey from Spurs... old 'Arry was actually quoted as saying he'd be delighted to have both players ie. Benjani & Defoe before it came out that the City deal had actually gone through after all. Benjani wasn't all that keen to sign for City, it was only when he saw the contract doubling his Pompey wages that he suddenly warmed to the idea.
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I have serious concerns over Benjani, not just because i think he is a crap player but also because of this problem with injuries. He had a problem at City and rumours are that Sunderland pulled out of a deal last week because of medical issues. Why are we wasting our time on Benjani? If he is our sole target and we get him in to do a medical and it brings up this knee problem then that leaves us no time to look at anyone else... Nicko, does it look like Sam couldn't move for a player until Benni had definitely gone? There is still time but I can't believe we have left it so late, as soon as Benni refused to train it will obvious he had no future here.
BPF Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I can't help but think that noone is going to come in and i'm a little worried because we are lacking in two areas. Midfield and upfront. I know that many of you are totally obsessed with Kalinic and I agree that he is looking to be a quality buy but I can't help but think that he needs support up there. Di Santo & Roberts are non entities. They cannot play at this level particularly against the teams we still have to face.

So i have to say, if we dont sign Cassano, then we dont sign anybody...

I kind of agree in principal LeChuck but every window we get the same old spiel of saving our cash for the summer window - or even the January market. It never happens. Also our lengthy search for a striker that ended with us getting Kalinic only did so because Pompey were in for him and we hijacked the deal at the 11th hour. Seems to be our strategy.
modes98 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I would think that is it then. I can't see us taking Benjani, unless it is a loan, without a full medical and if he has already failed a few elsewhere then is there any point? A cheeky loan bid for Owen or the pole (with a fixed fee at the end of the season)? Just anything for a bit of joy on the last day of a transfer window for once.
vyeo Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'm wondering if this is a case of the board again not releasing funds, or the manager deciding to keep the powder dry with an assurance that the cash saved would go towards the summer transfer kitty. Let's review the situation again - 2 weeks ago, the money men agreed to release funds, ostensibly because we were looking rather dire. Fast forward to the last three results, and suddenly the situation is very different. If you ask me, there's a good chance that the funds have been withheld again. Sorry for being so pessimistic. For the record, if I had to choose between Benjani and Dindane, it would be the latter, though I'm hoping we'll be surprised.
Bazrakats Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 HE only really had that good spell with Pomopey when they were on fire but hasnt done much since. 4 goals in his manchester city carrer says it all really.
