47er Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 I know this is hardly that interesting but i cant believe so many people have forgotten that game. Kuqi scoring??? I thought Bentley scored the first 2, Lucas Neill scored a penalty and then Bentley got the fourth... Bentley wasnt the star that night, Rio Ferdinand took that accolade. Anyway, transfers.. Roque isnt fit. That is where that should end. Bentley wouldnt want to play for us again, understandably, so I hope we have a few more ideas. Krancjar would be a great move but i reckon we'll be out gunned for him. Seb Larsson would be a decent signing if for some reason he'd come here. A striker and creative mid are essential if we want to stand any realistic chance of beating the drop by a comfortable margin. You're a little ray of sunshine aren't you?

RibbleValleyRover Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Anyone else nervous after the LT was talking about Sam wanting an 'experienced' premier league striker in January, meanwhile Michael Ricketts is currently training with us to help him find a new club? 6 foot 3, almost 32 year old experienced player at this level and a free agent...
gumboots Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 That's what I don't understand. What have they done to deserve a second chance? It just doesn't make sense. Somehow it strikes me that "moving forward" would entail is buying exciting new players, not bring back old ones that haven't been doing good in a long time. Possibly be better than what we already have and possibly be affordable. I'm not a fan of the idea of taking RSC back but it's about his injury problems, not his letting us down last time. And Bentley - well, he's not the brightest of lads and so easily fell for the hype that surrounded that good England B performance at Turf Moor but with a bit of TLC he could be someone we could really use , so him i would take. Not a case of rewarding him or whatever, just getting a player we need. Yes, we'd all like to unearth new and exciting talent but they cost the kind of money we're not going to have. I don't expect Bentley to come back, but I'd be pleased if he did.

Na - just helping an old mate out
Blueboy Downunder Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 i am with you RVR, very nervous.......you can see it coming by season's end...roberts & ricketts being the front 2 for rovers....OH DEAR!!
blue/white Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Roque or someone close to him is putting the story around... All the best with that one. That 's an easy one then, Nicko. 'Stuff it, c-Rocky'
Zulu Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Anyone else nervous after the LT was talking about Sam wanting an 'experienced' premier league striker in January, meanwhile Michael Ricketts is currently training with us to help him find a new club? 6 foot 3, almost 32 year old experienced player at this level and a free agent... He heard a rumour about free chicken. Fat @#/?.
mattyc2422 Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I wouldn't mind RSC back. Provides a good song for the crowd to sing after all...
Roberto Policano Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 i know it's a longshot but how much would Pablo Piatti set us back About £9-10 million.
Bobby G Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I would assume we will be looking at players that are at least 26-27 years old, if not older. The base of the side has Olsson, Jones, Samba, Nzonzi, Hoillett, Kalinic who are all in their early to mid-20's with Lingazi, & Goulon another two to mention on the fringes.
CrazyIvan Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I'd love to see the David Bentley who played in that game v United back for Rovers. The hungry and driven Bentley that wanted to play. I wouldn't want the ranting and drunken Bentley back. I'd love to see the Roque who was fit and wanting to play and score goals. Not the sulking, want away Roque. Neither is going to happen and... 'of' does not equal 'have'
chris Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Football's a funny old game. Let's say Bentley stayed at the club, never wanted to leave, but over the next couple of years his form nosedived drastically. Everyone would be lamenting how we didn't sell him when Spurs were handing us £17m. So, loyalty's all well and good for us fans, provided the player's decent. But if that star player should set his sights on playing at a bigger club, well.... that's just not cricket! The fact you call it a "second chance" speaks volumes about your attitude towards this. I wouldn't consider it that for either Santa Cruz or Bentley, because they were both fantastic players for Rovers and the money we received for their efforts helped the club manage its debts. They hardly cost us a fortune, flopped dramatically and left us in the lurch without recompense. such a great post, its true, just because they played well they must be loyal, but if the next season they lost form no doubt they probably get the Pedersen treatment and potential forum abuse. Is there really loyalty in football.
BuckyRover Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I agree. Although Topman is very critical of Pedersen. Hoisted by his own petard.
bennyboyt11 Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 What about a move for that Popov fella again? Looked pretty good from what I've seen...
Majiball Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I agree. Although Topman is very critical of Pedersen. Hoisted by his own petard. It was a good post and there was no need for the last part.
chris Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Henning Berg was welcomed back he left on bigger club terms. I bet he regrets going to United lol that grass was VERY GREEN.
1864roverite Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 The difference for Henning was that he was and still is very much a true gent neither motivated by money or greed. he didnt engineer his move via the media. he didnt slate the club in public. he was welcomed back becuase he had a genuine affection for the club. that is the marked difference for many players who have come and gone through the Ewood gates. As for Zulu, Ricketts might just be getgting fit for replacing Elmander - how funny would that be ???

benhben Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Stephen Ireland? Please,no. What a waste of money. He was terrible against us on Sunday - added to that he is a wierdo who would cost...... £8,000,000. NO WAY! Was quality for Man City until Mancini took over.
Roost Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Was quality for Man City until Mancini took over. He is a loose cannon though, and looked totally disinterested last sunday. £8M could be bettter spent I am sure
Majiball Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Mr Policano, We've got around £5million to spend and since you have a good knowledge of mainland european football would you care to throw any names into the hat??
BuckyRover Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I don't believe the £5m figure for a second. If you actually had that amount, why would you tell people this? It only weakens the negotiating position. They are business people afterall.

It only weakens the negotiating position. They are business people afterall. Could be a ploy for negotiations. Teams are unlikely to ask for ridiculous transfer fees if they think were limited to £5m.

It only weakens the negotiating position. They are business people afterall. So as opposed to asking with a roundabout figure in mind you'd like me to just grasp any number out of the air and throw it at him? I'm curious to see if Roberto can throw any names out there since his connections are more continental and he might know the odd gem who's available. They've said £5million with the potential for more, so until it becomes transparent that that's not the case, I'll refrain from making assumptions.
chris Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 We need the Ireland sort of players, player that you KNOW can do it but they need to be loved and pushed by the right man. Sam could make Ireland a star again, perfect time to get him at his lowest point.
