jim mk2 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 If the predicted showers continue, you we are on the way to a series win too. Having done the hard work in knocking over the top order, poor bowling and field placings by England has let the convicts off the hook again. From 180 for 8 the innings should have been wrapped up for 220 or fewer. Michael Vaughan castigating Strauss for his tactics on TMS. England need to build a decent innings lead because batting fourth on that pitch could be a problem. Time for Paul Collingwood to show some form. Star men of the day were Burnley's James Anderson for another skilful display of fast bowling and Collingwood the strike bowler.

Al Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 We might have a match on our hands for the first time this series.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 We might have a match on our hands for the first time this series. What about the game we lost Al ????????????
HemelRover Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 What about the game we lost Al ???????????? A match is where 2 teams are playing at an equal level and standard. This has not yet occured in this series. All 4 tests up to this point have been too one sided.
Al Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 A match is where 2 teams are playing at an equal level and standard. This has not yet occured in this series. All 4 tests up to this point have been too one sided. That's the point I was trying to make Tyrone not that England were superior all the series.
rog of the rovers Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 In the words of Andy Gray Alastair Cook, take a bew san! Superstar/Captain of the future Just turned 26 and his career figures are remarkable! Bar a sticky patch last summer his test career has gone from strength to strength, should easily be voted Man of the Series and is crucial if England want to kick on and become the #1 Test nation. 766 runs in 7 innings!
pg Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 England has a few 'proper' test batsmen like Cook and Trott. They aren't flashy...they just nudge the ball around...they've got one or two big shots....but if they get in they'll bat for a whole day...at which point they've effectively won the match for their team. They are good ol' fashioned 'accumulators' of runs. We used to churn out these sorts of players like lolly water (e.g. Border, Taylor, Steve Waugh, Boon, Langer)...now we've only got one left. Michael Hussey..and he's 35. The sooner they declare the sooner we can get bowled out for 150 and the whole series is consigned to history. Hopefully Cameron White and David Hussey can restore some pride in the pyjama game. Everyone else can go back to the Sheffield Shield and get some much needed practise.
SouthAussieRover Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 England 644 all out. Highest innings score by England in Australia. Collingwood confirms his retirement from Test cricket: http://www.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2010-11/content/story/495566.html

Robbo Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Just home from the SCG. What a great day! Managed to see Rovers go 3-0 up before we had to leave for the cricket. The England fans were in fine voice and I'm still humming the MItchell Johnson song.
jim mk2 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hopefully England can wrap this up early and I can get an early night. Sorry to see the end of Paul Collingwood, who has played many important innings for England but has struggled in this series. Morgan will probably come in at No 6 with Bell moving to No 5 but I wouldn't be suprised to see Lyth of Yorkshire or Somerset's Hildreth given a chance next summer. Both very capable middle-order batsmen.
jim mk2 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 281 all out. Convicts hung, drawn and quartered. Wildest dreams.
SouthAussieRover Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 The misty rain falling will disguise the tears of joy and sorrow!
Simon Says Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Well done England. Not the best Aussie team ever, but to win 3-1 down under is still a tremendous achievement.
Simon Says Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Our Aussie friends calling for change will not like to read this
jim mk2 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 3-1 down under is still a tremendous achievement. It is a wonderful achievement irrespective of the quality of the opposition (who cares anyway?), and one that should be celebrated. According to the Beeb website, "James Anderson has the best haul of wickets by an England player down under since Frank "Typhoon" Tyson in 1954-55, and yet he missed out on the man of the series award thanks to Alastair Cook's glut of 766 runs. Andrew Strauss joins Sir Len Hutton and Mike Brearley to become the third England captain to win Ashes series at home and away. "It is the first time any team has won three Tests by an innings in a single series away from home. Do not underestimate the scale of this achievement, however weak you think the Australians are." Although Cook was awesome, for me the pace bowlers were outstanding and were able to keep up constant pressure and take wickets even on flat unhelpful pitches. Anderson is at the peak of his game while the loss of Broad was hardly noticed as Tremlett and Bresnan performed superbly. Finn is an excellent bowler in the making and although Swann might be disappointed with his haul of wickets he contributed to the cause with disciplined bowling and rarely letting the batsmen get on top of him. Mention must also be made of the backroom team whose meticulous planning contributed to a thoroughly satisfying victory. The England football team please take note. England must now to learn from their mistakes in 2005 and kick on to try to achieve their stated aim of becoming world No 1. They're not far behind South Africa at No 2 and face the world's top team India soon - it should be an interesting series. Finally, thank you for the congratulations on England's win from the "Australians" (sic) on here - not that we were expecting any from the world's worst losers.
SouthAussieRover Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I bumped into an Oliver Twist character today.... He asked how John D.... was...and went on to ask.... "how's that Murdoch wan...ker" getting on with his trolling...."
jim mk2 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 HaHaHaHa Dearie me. Do people pay money to buy that rubbish ? English newspapers naturally have a slant towards the England team but they are generally objective. That's just schoolboy stuff. Badly written too.
JAL Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Watching the celebrations why do the supporters wear football shirts for a cricket match ?
Flopsy Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 It's the only clothes they own. Love this tshirt http://yfrog.com/h7p59jkj
neekoy Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Rovers putting three on my most despised club and Australia losing, at least the latter was expected, glass half full then I say.
