I've never seen Jones play so I don't know if he's good enough or fit enough, but he at least sounds like the type of player we need. Heck, even the return of Aaron Mokoena would've helped us in recent weeks I believe, as for all his faults he was at least present in midfield to make some tackles and intercept some passes. Someone who can do that and manage to pass the ball to a teammate is going to help the defense out a lot, and allow our attacking players freer reign. Pedersen or Dunn in central midfield will play better next to a defensive midfielder than alongside one another.

I don't quite get the negative reaction towards Seb Larsson. Yes he is a Kentaro/SEM client. He is also a player wanted by two other clubs around us; Sunderland and Newcastle (And possibly more) as well as a Swedish international. He's 26 and so has both many good years ahead of him, and potential "resale value". Which tells me it's not a case of The Evil Empire offloading crap players on us to make a quick buck. He does have quality, and I'm perplexed by the comments that he's just an average player. Some say that "he's another MGP" and they're correct in that really in a way; a wide mifielder whos prime assets are delivery, set pieces and work rate. But then again that's also what David Beckham was all about, and as someone who has seen more of him than I think most of you here (Playing for Sweden) I have many times been very impressed by his crossing. It's also very useful to have both right-footed and left-footed set piece specialists.

Hoilett has a lot of potential and I believe will be a big player for us, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves; you can still count the number of good PL games by him on one hand, even if I see that changing in the coming months. I see Emerton primarily as an option at right back and as the utility man of the squad, not to mention that I think Larsson is better than both him and Diouf.

So in short, I believe this improves the right side of our midfield, and he's also a player who can deputize at right back or as an attacking midfielder. Him and Hoilett being versatile means that I don't think it'll stunt Hoilett's growth either. It improves our team and it saves us paying a transfer fee (Even if that probably does mean more in wages, but still a saving).

I don't know if he's 'influencial'.... but he certainly speaks his mind.

I meant influential in the sense of what he may be bringing to the team, in the same way Savage was for us, if their performance dropped so much without him (but another poster said he didn't play last year after all). Not the sense that he was loved, respected, captain material etc. A little off topic now maybe, just thought I should clarify. Looking forward to seeing what he's about though...

This Jones lad sounds promising. Keef Andrews would not get close to playing for a Champions League team so a definite upgrade on what we've got. Good.

Would we expect to sign him AND Adam though if they are box to box midfielders? Or is this an admission that Blackpool will be obdurate and will want too much?

There's no evidence at all that we're run by Kentaro. The only formal link between Kentaro and Venkys was that Kentaro advised them on the purchase of the club. The Sun and a couple of other rags claimed Kentaro had put together a list of SEM clients for us to sign, none of whom are anywhere near signing with the club. Let's put this one to bed, shall we?

Best and most sensible post i've read on here today. Completely agree with everything said above.

Since you're mentioning players we havent signed, add Ronaldinho to it! :rover:

Lets reserve judgment for now.

Roque has joined on loan covering his wages. Jones would be on loan too. Rochina is expected to cost 1m Pounds. The others we have to wait and see if/when and how much.

Apologies if mentioned earlier (probably has, but I don't have time to read it all today:

Jones on loan? That means we must have freed up one loan spot..? Are we signing Mame, or is someone going home?

It's two loans from the Prem - Roque and Mame - but Jones would be on loan from Schalke, doesn't count as a domestic loan. Not sure about the cap on foreign loans.
