Mercer Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 So who mentioned Hoilett to Bayern? And your insider knowledge says closer to ewood, you are claiming insider knowledge aren't you? Just so we’re clear. I've told you, it wasn't me and I've better things to do than trawl back and find it. Again, I've never claimed any insider knowledge. What I will say, in the line of my work, I come across lots of people who have different levels of contacts with different clubs and football talk is always on the agenda just as it is when no doubt you go to the pub!!!

Gav Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I've told you, it wasn't me and I've better things to do than trawl back and find it. Again, I've never claimed any insider knowledge. What I will say, in the line of my work, I come across lots of people who have different levels of contacts with different clubs and football talk is always on the agenda just as it is when no doubt you go to the pub!!! I don't go to pubs. So you have different levels of contacts with different clubs, nobody mentioned the announcement today then? But someone has said Hoilett is leaving and that’s why he’s faking injury, and you did say that. Also did you get to Ewood at the weekend Mercerman?

There we have it, that's your problem Gav, get a few pints of wifebeater down your neck and you'll see the world in a whole new light.
roversmum Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Hellllllllllllllllllllllo? Sorry, I thought this was the West Ham match thread ... Could someone tell me where I might find it, please?
Gav Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Hellllllllllllllllllllllo? Sorry, I thought this was the West Ham match thread ... Could someone tell me where I might find it, please? Yes you're right mum, I should know better.
Mercer Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I don't go to pubs. A shame, some great pubs about providing great food, great ales and great socialising. So you have different levels of contacts with different clubs, nobody mentioned the announcement today then? Sorry, but again you haven't read properly, I said "I come across lots of people who have different levels of contacts with different clubs" which is completely different to what you've stated. But someone has said Hoilett is leaving and that’s why he’s faking injury, and you did say that. IMO, based on speculation that I have heard - which is what I said in an earlier post, he's unlikely to be with us next season. Again, I have NEVER said he's faking injury. b] Also did you get to Ewood at the weekend Mercerman? Yes I did and I thought that would have been clear from the comments I made on this MB post match. Ain't that the truth!!! No, absolute garbage..
Gav Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Well mercerman, mum is right, I'm currently doing what I hate other people doing and derailing this thread. I know and you know whats going on here, and if people enjoy reading your negative posts then thats fine by me, if they enjoy reading your pro-burnley posts thats fine also. I'm going to bow out at that, and I'll be sure to apologies if Hoilett goes to Bayern or just up the road in the closed season.

Final point, I haven't a feckin clue what's going on here. I bow to your superior powers and perception.
Backroom Tom Posted May 4, 2011 Backroom Posted May 4, 2011 We really could do with Hoilett being fit he is vital to us. If him and Olsson are both performing we have a chance in any game. On the contract thing obviously the manager decides who he wants to stay but it wouldn't be him holding the negotiations anyway.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Sam only signed Hoilett on a shorter contract because he wasn't a regular starter. Which is exactly what I said and obviously that was a huge mistake. I honestly can't see how you've the gall to blame Kean for not signing him up on the one hand and say it was ok for Sam not to sign him up on a proper contract on the other. You can't have it both ways. Well I'm sure you'll spend the next 78 psges attempting to tell us why you can................ As for the game.............pressure's on them I think we'll come away with at least a point if the refereee holds his nerve.
Mercer Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 As for the game.............pressure's on them I think we'll come away with at least a point if the refereee holds his nerve. WHAM are absolutely desperate and fired-up (just as we were pre Bolton). You'r right, the ref (walton) needs to hold his nerve, and his track record isn't encouraging, and so do we. Needless to say, first 15 minutes will be critical.

Difference hopefully is, Bolton had nowt to play for but unlike Bolton we still need a draw (at least) almost as badly as they need the win

As for the game.............pressure's on them I think we'll come away with at least a point if the refereee holds his nerve. I don't need to spend 78 pages. For any football fan who knows a bit about the game (you know, the type of fan that backs successful managers whilst opposing the appointment of the likes of Ince and Kean) it's obvious enough why there's such a big difference between the two scenarios. Last year he'd shown glimpses of promise but had hardly set the world alight. He needed to be signed on a new contract, but hadn't shown enough in his time to warrant a five year deal. Sam sat down with him early on and tried to thrash out a contract, which was only delayed because he wasnt sure if he wanted to stay. Clearly a year on and he's had three times as much experience in the top flight as he did back then, so it stands to reason he's developed considerably as a player and is week in, week out producing the goods. A five year contract is entirely reasonable, and this time he's come out and said he wants to stay at the club, but unlike our last manager, Kean is delaying putting off sitting down with Junior and discussing a contract. Do you see the difference between the situations? I can count about five key differences there.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Do you see the difference between the situations? Nope, young player, great talent, huge potential who they watch in training day in day out. Should have been tied down to a long term cobtract in the first place. He may well yet sign a new deal but Kean was left trying to close the stable door after the horse had bolted so to speak.

No one is given a 5 year deal on the basis of performances in training FFS. Name me one who has done without establishing themselves properly. There's only one place to prove yourself good enough to justify a five year deal and that's on the pitch. Both Phil Jones and Olsson got their five year deals once theyd established themselves as first team regulars. In Jones' case he established himself pretty quickly. Olsson only got a five year deal last summer and he made his debut a long time before Junior. Everyone could see his potential too. Kean trying to close the stable door? By refusing to sit down with the player who has come out and said he wants to stay at Rovers? Embarassing.
yeti-dog Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Sorry tgm but Revidge is right. A 2.5 year contract for one of the few talented youngsters we possess was rather pathetic, particularly when you can pretty much write-off the final 12 months, effectively making it an 18 month contract. Even your sycophantic Allardyce spin can't turn this into more Kean bashing I'm afraid.

Even your sycophantic Allardyce spin can't turn this into more Kean bashing I'm afraid. Maybe Sam wasn't bothered as he was planning his get away to the middle east ? In truth nobody knows why Hoilett only signed for 2.5 years under Allardyce and has yet to sign a new deal under Kean. Maybe Hoilett and his agent wasn't convinced he would get a run in the team under Allardyce - and they insisted on a 2.5 year deal. For Kean - maybe there is a gentleman's agreement between Kean and Hoilett - or maybe Hoilett's agent wants to wait until the end of the season. Or maybe, just maybe - Kean's version is correct Hoilett wants to stay but they have decided to concentrate on football for now. Anyway - back to topic - for me Hoilett is our own little Messi - and I am sure we all dream that he will line up on the right wing with Olsson on the left for years to come. But more importantly at the moment for the West Ham match.

All you're doing is showing how little you know. Name me ONE youth player who hasn't yet established themselves at a Premier League club who signed a FIVE YEAR deal. http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/sport/newsid_2670000/2670561.stm Look here - Even Wayne Rooney had been starring in the Everton first team (far more justifying a five year deal) and got a...wait for it...two and a half year contract. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/24/jack-rodwell-five-year-deal-everton Jack Rodwell only got his deal after a full season in which he played 36 games. He'd been far more highly rated and played in 25 games the season before, but no one thought to sign him upto a five year deal? Martin Olsson only got his five year contract last summer. Phil Jones got it earlier because he became a key player almost as soon as he played his first league game. What Sam did was standard practice when offering young players contracts. I've proved as much and I doubt you can prove otherwise. What Kean is doing - ie delaying Hoilett's contract talks till the summer and delaying contract talks until the final write off 12 month period - is far from standard practice.
blue_and_white Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Look here - Even Wayne Rooney had been starring in the Everton first team (far more justifying a five year deal) and got a...wait for it...two and a half year contract. He's well and truly got you there. Damn good digging my friend.

Just a minute, first off i'm with TGM here, because as he pointed out above, who gets a 5 year deal when they have hardly played for the first team. Secondly who said Hoillet wanted a 5 year contract? From all reports it was suggested that Hoillett was considering leaving anyway. Allardyce did bloody well to talk him round in the first place. There are so many players that have started breaking into the first team at Rovers and have fallen by the wayside because the couldn't cut it at PL. How daft would it be to give a kid a 5 year deal when they have proven nothing. Keith Treacy, Sergio Peter, Neil Danns. All showed promise but didn't get offered daft 5 year deals for no reason.

Totally agree - why give a 5 year deal to a player that was at least a foot too short for Sam's style of play. Funny thing is with the Rooney argument - does that make us daft to offer Jones a 5 year deal after only a handful of first team matches or Everton daft for not offering Rooney a longer deal ?

Remind how tall Stelios and Djorkaeff are? That particular argument is very silly. Well Everton got 30million quid out of it so they didn't play it badly did they. When we offered Jones that contract he had already broken into the England U21's and was considered the next John Terry, very obvious how good he was. It is rather like offering Hoillett a 5 year deal now after he has proved himself. But lets not distract the boy
