Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 It means that 100 clubs can bid £16m and we have to accept them all, Phil just chooses which club he wants, not us. We're getting 16m for him. PJ or his agent will have put it in to ensure he can leave if he wants to. Probably only agreed to sign a new contract on this basis.

super_arran Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Best thing now would be for Phil to pick up an injury keeping him from passing any medicals until the end of the window. If that even works. Nah, Stuart Downing passed a medical with a broken foot. Plus we resigned Roque

Nobody has hit the magic figure with cash alone. Yet. That could obviously change in the next day or two. Most of the players are talking swaps. The biggest 'cash only' bidders are Liverpool and seem well short of the trigger figure. So it's not all over yet. But I wouldn't be buying a strip with P.JONES on the back right now all the same.

DavidMailsTightPerm Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 The poster who mentioned a £16 million price clause in Phil Jones's contract seems to be very well-informed. Congratulations on that info. Is that definite ? Makes you wonder - how desperate were Venky's to stabilise the club following the fall out post Sam. £16m clause is ridiculously low - especially considering it was for a 5 year contract.
Gogger Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Great, selling JOnes way under his market price (I thought Venkys were good business men/women). On top of that we got a manager who is totally deluded and thinks Benjani, Roberts, RSC and DIouf suddenly will score goals come next season. Imagine losing Jones to pay for RSC, MB Diouf, how depressing...

den Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 RSC, JJ and MBD would cost more than our allotted £5m. Have we got money left over from last Jan, are we borrowing the xtra from next Jan, or can Venky's not do sums?
AJW Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 who decides these figures ? the club the agent or player?
den Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 who decides these figures ? the club the agent or player? If you mean the get out clauses, sometimes they are requested by the player/agent, sometimes by the club.
otto man Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Forcibly inserted against his will no doubt. Does it not mean that we can't refuse a bid of 16 million but it is not a cap on bidding? Given that all the top clubs are after him, surely the rest won't just sit back at 16 million and say, "Oh well" when he signs for someones else? £16,000,000 is the starting price. He'll go for way more than that, assuming he goes of course.
J*B Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Absolutely ###### moronic to allow that clause to be put in. We shouldn't have even offered him the new deal, he'd still have had 3 years on his old contract with no clause!! Whoever is responsible for that clause being slotted in needs the immediate sack. 110% that Jones will now leave, 16m is nowhere near his current value nevermind potential value in the current market. If Jones leaves, Samba will demand a move. When Samba and Jones leave, Junior would be insane to sign on that dotted line. Neither replacement will be as good as Samba and Jones, we simply cannot get the same amount of quality for the money which we will end up having after both sales. No way Venkys will give us the ~30million from both sales, especially when they think they have invested 3 years worth of funds already. Obliterated any sort of excitement for the transfer window, Jones is right to want out of this time bomb. We will NOT line up with a starting 18 better than what we have currently. PS: Mama Diouf is ###### and will never make it. RSC is an embarrassment as is well past it.
67splitscreen Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Barca 'B' Soriano Been tracking him all season according to talk shoite.
brfcshabba Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I wouldn't be surprised if Samba had a clause as well. No other reason to sign one in January
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 6, 2011 Moderation Lead Posted June 6, 2011 Regarding all the nonsense that's being spouted, the truth will come out eventually, patience is very much required- unfortunately we can't fast forward to the start of the season or September 1, so we know who's in the squad!
Backroom Tom Posted June 6, 2011 Backroom Posted June 6, 2011 Great, selling JOnes way under his market price (I thought Venkys were good business men/women). Who said it was Venkys who put the clause in? It's not like the previous regime were faultless in this kind of thing. Spurs can have him for £10m plus Palacios if they want
chaddyrovers Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Kean on Radio Lancs tonight. Happy with the good finish to the season, especially the run of 7 positive results out of the last nine games. Wants to sign RSC, JJ and MB Diouff. If their clubs don't want to seel, then he'll back off because he doesn't want to unsettle the players. Andy Bayes sounding a bit dubious about Kean wanting RSC in particular and asking for Rovers fans to contact Radio Lancs with their views on the manager. here is Kean interview. start about 8 minutes in http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/p00gzp27 have fun listening to it

pick32 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Nicko are you 100% about this clause being real or not? If so please don't publish it you never no they might not find out.
Backroom Tom Posted June 6, 2011 Backroom Posted June 6, 2011 Nicko are you 100% about this clause being real or not? If so please don't publish it you never no they might not find out. No offence to Nicko but I feel if he knows about it, the clubs potentially spending a lot of money will also know about it.
thenodrog Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Lets see.... 16m for Jones, 10m? for Samba, 5-10m? for Hoilett.... Thats a total of 31-36 million! Jerome Anderson will be creaming himself over what he can do with that! Skimming from that pile will be like taking candy from a baby. err ..... imo
pick32 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 No offence to Nicko but I feel if he knows about it, the clubs potentially spending a lot of money will also know about it. I would say your 99.9% right but im still holding on to the 0.01% chance.
thenodrog Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I would say your 99.9% right but im still holding on to the 0.01% chance. Tom's 100% right pick.
sparkspakespoke Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 £16,000,000 is the starting price. He'll go for way more than that, assuming he goes of course. He'll go for 16 mate, if thats the release clause then no one will bid higher than that. He'll have his choice of clubs at that price as well.
bennyboyt11 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So if a club offers £16m and we therefore accept, P J has no say in the matter? Can't he refuse their contract offer if he really is against leaving? (not saying he would but surely he has a say in the matter)
