What do you think about Evans, if he is Zac's mystery defender.

Looked great when he burst onto the scene a couple of years ago. Currently going through that inevitable 'lull' that most young players do, but I'd take him all day. I'd be astounded if Ferguson let him leave considering Ferdinand and Vidic are now injured.

trying on limited time to follow this whilst on holiday - have we any new names linked at all ?

No. I initially suggested that Johnson wasn't as good as some of the hype that has seemingly surrounded him recently. Then people disagreed, and were pretty rude in the process (including an apparent moderator).

I then 'give it back,' and then people get tetchy. I see now that old posters can be as rude as they like, but newbies have to take it like a bitch?

If we're going to pick up players from the fringes of other clubs, I'd prefer it to be top six sides and not teams we should be more or less competing with. That said, I haven't seen enough of Wilkinson to judge.

You know it's depressing looking at all the links for players we never got, and now looking at scraps from Stoke, I would rather have a young un in from the academe, if Kean does go which by the way I doubt there is still time to get some quality in come on Venkys get a move on, Oh and Kamy and Co, the guys in the know??? you are very quiet tonight. Calm before the storm perhaps.

You clearly didn't watch much Spanish football last season?!

Valdes had a brilliant season, making some crucial saves and would have featured in many pundits La Liga team of the season.

Terrible maybe taking it too far but he is far from being near the elite. He would be ripped apart in most Premiership teams. His positioning is poor, distribution very average and loves a hospital pass.

Considering he sits in front of a team that allows the opposition very few touches of the ball and a couple of chances a match he hardly has a hard job.

His style leads him to put the team under pressure in areas they shouldn't be. Whether that's down to the coaching or not I don't know. He is a disaster waiting to happen, much like Pepe Reina. The redeeming factor for Reina is that he pulls off a lot higher quality saves than Valdes, although the one he made yesterday was very good.

As for team's of the season, he plays for Barca. They don't conceed goals because of the 10 outfield players being very good on the ball and retaining the ball. Plus the competition is hardly exciting.

The fact that Valdes is third choice for Spain highlights that he's not a world beater but he's far from as horrible as you deem him out to be. Generally overrated though, you're right about that.

Who's working on our transfers now? Seems like we're changing striker targets quite often and are struggling to make progress on a lot of our targets. Is that because of Venky's orders or because we hired a stingy git?
