VinjayV4 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Moyes interested in the Villa manager job http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/aston-villa-manager-candidate-david-7616888 Villa could but Newcastle couldn't assuming Benitez would leave in the event of relegation? Not to mention apparently turning down Sunderland and West Ham. At least Newcastle got straight back up last time not sure Villa will however big their stadium is.
VinjayV4 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Surprised about the lack of reaction on here to Johnson's 6 year sentence... Personally I think its too strong though he probably won't serve all that time if he behaves or reduced on appeal. I don't really like referring to other celebrities (after all there's many criminals) but look at what Rolf Harris got. I don't care how old he is (or who he is as I never exactly went out of my way to watch Animal Hospital) but his crimes were considerably worse to the point of not really being comparable. Harris refused to even admit his guilt where is the consistency in courts with such questionable differences in sentencing? Johnson has also been "stripped" of his England caps which seems a bit pointless as he probably still owns them. Its a pointless overreaction (he played for England can't pretend he didn't) what next strip him of his Premier League winners medal?
gumboots Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Ive said before that i dont think jail is the correct sentence here and 6 years seems very harsh to me,
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 25, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted March 25, 2016 Are they going to strip Graham Rix of his England caps as well? As an example- recently of a teaching assistant that recently had sex 50 times with a 15 year old,(against 1 for Johnson), gave him money to run away with her, pretended to be pregnant and was given.......250 hours unpaid work and a £100 fine! The same crime on a grander scale, yet a far more lenient sentence. I suppose nobody has heard of her though...http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/schoolboy-groomed-teaching-assistant-we-6536549
JBiz Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 That's partly true khod but it's not as sickening as international footballers, or celebrities taking advantage of their positions and fame to get in the situation. Doesn't make it less or more right - the point is both are examples of a mature adult in a position of responsibility, taking advantage of an immature person. Both should be 5 years + IMO.

Even aged 18 it's not supposed to happen between people in a position of trust and those to whom they have a duty of care. What Johnson did was wrong but the sentence seems to me to be based more on outrage that he's a wealthy young footballer than at what actually happened.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Ive said before that i dont think jail is the correct sentence here and 6 years seems very harsh to me, I agree. His celebrity status has worked against him in this case. The sentence is out of all proportion to the crime.

I know about the duty of care element, I'm referring to how those with money, flash cars, well known, on tv etc can sway people in a different way. I personally think it's much worse- but they are both deplorable acts.
Ricky Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Why the hell is this kid complaining?!Why the hell is the girl in the Johnson case complaining?!Do you not see the stark hypocrisy in your comment? Because it's abuse on a young boy it's deemed as funny and less deplorable. She slept with a minor more than 50 times yet society deems that as acceptable.

This is exactly how "justice" is meted out in the 21st century. It's like the public hangings and floggings of the dark ages. "Give the crowds what the want" only now the crowds are the twitterati.

I personally think it's much worse- but they are both deplorable acts. Which one do you think is worse? The manipulative school teacher, surely? You can absolutely guarantee that a male teacher in the same situation would not have been given so lenient a sentence.Or that a female footballer who had done what Johnson had would have got anything other than a slap on the wrist. Johnson is an idiot but the Twitter idiots are lumping him in with the like of Savile, and that permeates it's way into newspapers and that influences courts in case like these. He is being made an example of at the moment. I expect his lawyers will have warned him and he'll wait for the appeal for the final tariff. Attitudes like donnermeats are entirely symptomatic of the problem and gender bias. With a young lad and older woman, it's "good on ya", or "why complain?", but she was far more manipulative in my view and did a lot more damage.
ABBEY Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Ive said before that i dont think jail is the correct sentence here and 6 years seems very harsh to me,He fiddled with a kid who he knew had just turned 15 , he liked animal sex ...Blimy Didn't deserve jail he should be castrated to . Dirty pervert nonce . The way he treated his wife what a scumbag human . Jail was the least he deserves . Are they going to strip Graham Rix of his England caps as well? Disgusting do gooders in power and law make me boil .personally I'd say it's worse. If you're in education, the age of consent thing doesn't apply. Stuart Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Would you say the same if it was your young daughter ?The 15/16 thing is a matter of law. You can have very mature and independent 15 year olds and very immature and naive 16 year olds. Personally I'd be just as disgusted if he'd done what he did to my daughter even if she was 16 but in law he would have had no case to answer. But at the same time what would you have said if the female teacher had been having it away with your 15 year old son? (With apologies to your son who reads the board - I'm talking hypothetically).
ABBEY Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Honestly I'd want the book throwing at her. It's no different. I remember when I got my coaching badges for Olympic wrestling we spent a full weekend on child protection stuff . Which was correct due to handling children of both sexes in varying moves and positions that the sport required . The parents gave us there trust in doing this .

JBiz Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I think both acts are essentially disgusting - but the added element of fame - casting the victim into a very public eye makes the AJ case worse personally. In the case of the female teaching assistant - immediately suspended then sacked. Highlights just how low Sunderland stopped when they let him play.
VinjayV4 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I can't be bothered debating about punishments, etc other than court consistency in sentencing. Abbey is clearly steadfast in his views (which are shared by a lot of people particularly capital punishment) but why get so worked up about things which have no direct impact on your life? Just want to correct you on the "paedo" remark that actually applies to younger age ranges now. So in court presumably he hasn't been recognised as a paedophile for this case. Of course many will assume he's attracted to younger kids as well. There's really a big difference between a 15 year old (who often may resemble young adults or at least look older) compared to a 10 year old. You can usually tell if someone is pre teens but you can't always tell if someone might be older than 15. That's one of the main issues with underage and I think they are leading to that storyline with Jay on EastEnders. In that storyline he was clearly attracted on first sight and seemingly hasn't even contemplated she might be underage. So its not all "black and white" though as we know Johnson certainly knew of the age in this case. When I saw the other findings immediately wondered if it was because Johnson found them funny more than anything. Personally I wouldn't find them funny at all (was simply wondering if that was Johnson's mindset) and have no desire to see such material. Though I have watched the Jerry Springer "married a horse" episode and found it quite amusing. It was too extreme even for Springer in the 90's and banned in most places and so might just be from a video release. According to the Sunderland Echo the images Johnson had were of a "jokey" nature. People will look at the reports of Johnson's lack of remorse and the girl taking an overdose recently. Well that certainly hasn't helped his reputation but the overdose can't have been taken into account for the level of sentencing. The case had already started.
