davulsukur Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I'd say Graham is Rhodes's replacement. He and Watt are now our main strikers. Jackson as backup/off the bench.

Mani Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I'm sure PL has something lined up. There's no way he'd have allowed this move if not. He is calling the shots here and being 100% backed by Venkys. Why would he sell the clubbed most valuable asset unless he thought he had money to spend? I think the really important thing to do is forget like for like comparisons. PL is all about the collective not the prowess of one or two players. He's going to do it his way and we have to trust him. Rhodes isn't the be all and end all. He's seen as a luxury player. The guy who finishes but cannot build a game for you... Last season we scored 41 goals between Gestede and Rhodes and finished 9th! I'm so interested to see what he does with it. Expect to see more guile, mobility, pace and strength...👍🏽
Mani Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 ARROGENT POST ...CLOWN REALLY REALLY CANT UNDERSTAND THE HATE OF RHODES I REALLY DO HOPE HE BECOMES A WORLD SUPERSTAR. It's arrogant...
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Felt like we've been accomodating Rhodes in the team for several months. Ultimately his all round game is very limited and we need a striker who will be able to create something for himself. Would you rather a striker who scores 20 goals a season or a 12 goal a season striker who creates 10 more? If you offered me Rhodes or Gestede right now id take Gestede. To be honest it's not even a difficult decision.
Speedie Dived Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Who will Lambert replace Rhodes with. Remember we havent replace Gestede yet? And Rhodes yet. So two tip strikers needed. Watt has replaced Koita. Never thought they would sell this window. Could be fatal IF Paul Lambert dont have a replacement lined up. Cant have faith in Brown, Delfo and Jackson. Need a proven striker this window. Cash is there so no time waiting until summer. Wells? Has he not already done it? Graham, watt and Jackson?
philipl Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I can officially reveal that I am signing as a centre forward for Rovers tomorrow. Height, plenty of weight and a career goal scoring record only two less than our leading scorer this season...
sharpysharps Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I'd say Graham is Rhodes's replacement. He and Watt are now our main strikers. Jackson as backup/off the bench. Crikey, hope this is not the case and that PL will bring someone else in. Ideal scenario now ahead of the deadline is that we do the following: 1. Rhodes short term replacement (a loan deal for someone like Bamford, or Gayle, etc) 2. Creative 'number 10' midfielder 3. Pacey midfielder 4. Left Back Given that Palace have just signed Adebayour you've got to think that Gayle is on his way out there.
AllRoverAsia Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Rhodes will imo score goals for fun at Boro because they will create chances for him and play to his strenghts. That is something which Rovers failed to do under GB and also apprently under PL. Anyway if he's happy to be 2nd or even third new striker choice for Boro in this Transfer Window then good luck and good riddance. If he's gone that chapter is closed and we move on and hope Balaji doesn't pocket the fee and spend on Bling, he paid for Rhodes alledgedly and may just take his money back. I blame Shaw and Venkys..........as I do for everything even Donald Trump.
Stuart Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Get a grip. Weve lost better in past, shearer, sutton, cruz, beni mac, bellers. WE ALWAYS BOUNCE BACK. Coyb. Theres no hatred, rhodes is a legend. But lamberts management wont suit him just like scotland and strachan.Really? You are going to cite a failing manager and a failing national team, who didn't get the necessary goals or results to qualify for the Euros, as the reason not to play Rhodes. This isn't just a seminal moment for Lambert, it's a seminal moment for some of the mouths on here. (Mine included!)
Norbert Rassragr Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Hmmm. If we get all the money to spend, it may be good. Bring in Armstrong, Bradshaw and/or Sharp to replace Rhodes and get Adam, McGeady, Gibson and/or Ireland on a loan with a possible permanent deal and we're laughing. If not, it could be difficult until next season.
Pedro Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Really? This isn't just a seminal moment for Lambert, it's a seminal moment for some of the mouths on here. (Mine included!) If we end up getting promoted on 2017 then it will be a great move and everyone can look back and be almost grateful. Right now, we are heading one way with such a toothless, effortless and unbalanced squad. It can't carry on because we are sliding down the league. I reckon Rhodes will do well for in spurts for Boro (whilst in this league) but he will get owned in the Premier League due to the lack of strength and presence. That's the prime reason no decent team has ever come in for him and the reason why there isn't and hasn't ever been a bidding war for him.

People on here haven't been trying to sell Rhodes just getting their heads around why you would. As far as I know Lambert is this third to try and first to succeed. Still think Venkys might back track on this.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Well there are two clear scenarios now Mani and it all revolves around Venkys intention to spend...or not. If Lambert is getting a good 10 milllion or so to rebuild, then all well and good but with Venkys you never know. The recent signings (I am excluding Simeon Jackson, as on paper that is a backward step) have been more encouraging. However, actual fees invested have been minimal. Lambert stated he was asking if he could spend the Olsson/Koita money. Could all be bluff but again on paper, it may indicate venkys not keen to spend. I personally believe that Rhodes had to go so that Lanbert can set a team up his way with his type of players. Lambert has taken a huge gamble though because we are not playing well under him. Selling the "jewel" will only raise the discontent of a number of fans. If Graham is the signing that Lambert believes will shape the forward line then we may be in trouble. We still need pace and power out wide and up top plus a quality midfielder and now a full back. If we add these by summer we should improve alot. But my head is telling me that there will be no Rhodes replacement this window. They will have known about a Boro bid and will have been sourcing options...the fact we were willing to pay more than others for Watt would indicate that. Also the fact that every club knows we now have money will mean extortionate prices. The dice has been rolled, time to see how it lands. I have confidence that PL will get it right.

Love them both but love the Rovers more.

Not necessarily you speedie but there are plenty on here who are delighted he has gone - or are about to do a Chadster now the S has H the F.

Not delighted, but a lot (never met a person in real life who wouldn't sell at 10 million) who get the sale. Everyone loved Lambert's appointment, if this is what he wants I get it. But sadly I don't think some will.

The beauty of debate.
patrickvalery Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 It's a funny old game isn't it? Yesterday afternoon I thought our forward line was looking an exciting prospect. A few hours later and its suddenly impotent. I like Rhodes. But I can see the need to strengthen elsewhere. I'd sooner have kept him and strengthened. But when push comes to shove I suppose Lambert had to decide one over the other. It's what he's paid for. It's crunch time that's for sure. But I've got a feeling it might not be the disaster some think it will be in the long term. Or maybe that's just blind faith. Hard to tell sometimes.
Pedro Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Convinced we will go past Rudy and Rhodes one day. Love them both but love the Rovers more. Me too. I am a massive fan of both but realistic and not blinkered to see that we have had much better and it isn't the end of the world. Some of the older lads on here have said throughout all of the false optimism that this squad isn't good enough for promotion and it would take more than just a new manager - they were 100% correct. I am more excited than scared about this. I want blood and guts football at Ewood, not mundane, gutless naff that you can genuinely watch (with your knackered knees) and know that you could do better in terms of effort. If we had employed a rookie, I'd be worried. But I have faith in Lambert and through the whole set-up change, I honestly think that the owners seem to be rebuilding the absolute mess they've made. Some fans will never be patient, some foolishly expected to be firmly in the play offs now, I've said from day one that this has to be treated as a massive pre-season and I'm still happy to do that. In terms of the timing, it isn't bad at all. Many teams have shown their hand and splashed the cash. They can't all go up and so an embargo is going to be knocking on one or two of their doors in the summer. Also, if we haven't lined anyone up, we will be able to loan in Feb and be able to pick up someone decent from the Premier League. With the Euros coming, players are going to want to be playing and we can now pay the wages. It's been a rough ride for five or so years but we'll get back up there.
Stuart Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 At least one half can say "I told you so" and abuse the other half in 18 months! The beauty of debate. Yay!
Speedie Dived Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 If one thing this surely ends FFP issues?

Not aimed at you as such but seen quite a bit of it already since last night. Edit - WWWM that won't be happening
