Mattyblue Posted yesterday at 09:22 Posted yesterday at 09:22 Two of your key players with a year left and they haven’t even been offered anything. This club doesn’t now even pretend to be a professional one. 3 Quote

JHRover Posted yesterday at 12:30 Posted yesterday at 12:30 (edited) We'll just be getting some arse covering from the club being fed to Nixon and the Venkygraph over the next few weeks. The club, or the stooges running it, will want to get the last word out. They won't be happy at all that the trio of Tronstad, Travis and Brittain have publicly confirmed the truth - that the club hasn't even made the effort to speak to them about new deals - this disrupts the club's spin that they are hard at work and trying to sort it out but the greedy players are holding out for something better. They succeeded on that con job with Lenihan, Nyambe, even Dolan. It isn't working on the others. So we will get bits in the press about this with the club trying to convince supporters they are trying, when most of us know they aren't. Edited yesterday at 12:34 by JHRover 3 Quote

Well, if they needed signing up because we wanted to sell them on for a profit maybe. How many senior players still here did he sign up for an extension? (Genuine question because I don't know) Buckley and Scott Wharton maybe? Quote

Also Garrett and Leonard if you want to count them as they would both need a squad place allocating this coming season. Travis signed his extension a few months before he joined. The only one of those I'd say was a real coup would be Carter's as he looked at the time as though he'd be the next one to leave for big money. His form and fitness have declined somewhat since then though which couldn't have been predicted at the time. Quote

Easy to look back now and say who was a coup and who wasn't. They all needed renewing at the times they were renewed. Some have worked out, some haven't. 2 Quote

It's quite amazing how players can flourish under one manager and offer nothing under another. 1 Quote

Conversely I wouldn't criticise anyone for giving Buckley a 5 year deal at the time as again he looked like he was going to be the next big thing. I rate Scott Wharton and again wouldn't quibble about him having been given a long term deal at the time. On the other hand at no point would I have been rushing to offer Pears or Pickering new deals, I don't think you can just hand contracts out to everyone carte blanche, you have to assess who's performing best for you and who has the most potential resale value and prioritise accordingly. Mowbray was particularly guilty of handing out contract extensions to those who didn't warrant them. Quote
Tomphil2 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Ironically the one given 5 years to secure the asset was the one who almost instantly fell away the most and i personally think there is a connection. It did come under the Mowbray and Venus regime though so not that surprising. Quote
