Agree - thought Travis was 'out of it' today, possibly pondering his future.Β  Tronstad not his usual self either.

Also bare in mind nobody wants an injury preseason, although Travis lunge at this nearside said otherwise lol

Cantwell had minor injury so didn't travel.

I know people are against loans, but you don't get much quality when your buys are Β£500k-Β£1m.

We 100% need a couple of premium loans to give this squad a bit of quality and depth.Β

Kroupi at Bournemouth would be top of my list if he's not in their first team plans this season.

Loans are a necessity for pretty much every championship club, it's just a very mixed bag what you get from premier league youngsters.

I'm sure we'll end up bringing in a couple as we did with Beck and ACD last summer.

Anybody else concerned that not that many players have played 90 mins in pre-season.

Really poor first half today but the 20 mins after half time were encouraging. Kargbo looked a handful in that spell scoring and putting one on a plate for gueye. I get how they want to use him as an impact substitute but we have so little out wide in terms of threat from de neive and hedges that he's going to have to start.

Tyjon isnt ready yet. Montgomery is physically ready and needs a loan but imo he isn't ready to start here. The new right back looks athletic but sloppy on the ball. There's a lot riding on miller as brittain is sort of our main creative outlet at right back.Β

I suspect we will get miller and another in before the club move on to trying to shift another high earner (hyam or Travis perhaps). The race to the bottom continues.

Can we just remember its pre season and the proper football that actually matters started on Saturday at 3pm at the Hawthorns. As I expect some people going over the top with their remarks after today's performance against NEC.Β

Β Looks like Pears is third choice currently behind Toth and Michalski. Buckley isn't close to the squad. Expect both to leave before the window. If Pears does leave then I think we need another keeper in

Like I said in the Match thread I ain't going OTT over one poor pre season performance, Against Everton we were excellent. I have seen us lose 3 nil at Deepdale in pre season and were bloody awful that night yet won the first game of the season

I'd be amazed if Pears is behind Michalski in the pecking order. It will just be because of his hair transplant gone wrong. It's kept him out of games and behind in his fitness and preparation. I'm sure once he's up to speed he will be back on the bench.

Not sure if Buckley will leave yet, but I agree with the rest. It's a friendly. People have been getting too excited by the 100% start before it, and too worried by this game too. Although that sort of thing always happens after a win or defeat.

From LT:-

Β

Aynsley Pears and John Buckley’s time at Blackburn Rovers could be coming to an end after the pair were left out of the squad to face NEC Nijmegen.

Pears has not featured in pre-season yet due to a hip injury but did play 90 minutes for the Under-21s in midweek. He kept a clean sheet as they beat Barnsley in a behind-closed-doors match.

β€œIt was a decision that we made,” Ismael told The Lancashire Telegraph on their absence.

β€œI don’t know what the situation is for them and the future. We took a decision for the squad today and that’s who we picked, that’s it.”

It’s understood that both Pears and Buckley asked to play in the midweek match for gametime but that has done little to change the pecking order. Rovers will surely entertain any offers forthcoming with neither play likely to be content with sitting out.

Well they're clearly wrong about the hip injury. If he's not the hair transplant problem guy after wearing a cap all summer, I'll show my arse in the mall. You've got more chance of persuading me Trump isn't on the Epstein list.

The manager talking like that about his future is interesting though. Doesn't necessarily mean he is third choice though, could just be unhappy being second choice after being number one for most of the last two seasons. I'd be very surprised if a kid with minimal experience is suddenly ahead of him. I certainly won't be sad if we can get a reasonable price and a better replacement though. Wouldn't be happy going into the season with Michalski as the cover yet. Toth needs proper competition.

You need ti get 3 a time in then usually one turns out quite good, one flatters to deceive and the other is useless.

We wait with baited breath to see what this season brings but i really fear there'll be nowt decent this time because they don't want to pay the wages anymore.

I would suggest you read Ismael's post match comments about Pears and Buckley.Β https://x.com/_ElliottJackson/status/1951692224795664426

Brad Lyons - Kilmarnock.Β

Β

Ex rovers. Has come on leaps and bounds. I wonder if we had a buy back/sell on Clause? Could provide really good cover both in defence and central midfield. Be a neat addition...Β

Christ we are scraping the bread bin aren't we at this stage..Β

Pears doesn’t want to be a number 2.

Val prefers Toth (rightly so).

Probably too early for Michalski to be number two. Needs to be playing regularly for his development.

I would suggest the best way to describe him - based on the majority of his performances for us - would be 'a giant number 2'.

If we move Pears and Buckley that just creates more holes in the squad. I'd prefer to keep them around than have more youngsters or cheap replacements.

both of them need to **** off.pears is`nt very good and buckley has all the talent but no application, provided we can get some more players in to replace them ,im`e not so bothered about those two leaving

Buckley will get a club, prob league one, but no one will buy him for any noticeable modest fee.

A good move for him now would be somewhere like Wigan.

If he can't seemingly motivate himself to play for us, I fail to see how he will do so for Wigan, or any league 1 club tbh! I've posted it many times before but he's one of the strangest players I can remember for us.

Buckley is an example of new contracts for players is not always Β a good idea .. The only other club he has been linked with & who took him were a broken & desperate Sheffield Wednesday and he couldn’t even break into that team & lucky for them & unfortunately for us he did his shoulder in …He will slide down the leagues just like Jason Lowe …

Pears Hopefully Eustace will save us ….Β

I don’t rate Pears and Buckley has done nothing but gone backwards for the last 3 / 4 years. The thing that is fairly certain is that they are both towards the very top of the pay scale !
