Wrexham have just paid 6.5m for Ben Sheaf from Coventry.

Meantime Guehi has been sold to Liverpool despite Glasner's objections so that's a British CB we won't be signing as a Hyam replacement..

No, that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Now they've hit the last couple of hours of the window, it's all geared up for a Venkys classic:

• Sell Hyam
• Throw Hyam under the bus
• Speculate we had a great replacement lined up
• Make an excuse that we couldn't get it over the line on time
• Look again in January
• *January comes* - Do nothing

Was an explanation given for that?

The owners will be delighted with this window. The objectives would have been:

Reduce the wage bill ✅
Spend less than we bring in ✅
Reduce the average age of the squad ✅
Buy potential that we may be able to sell on for a profit ✅
Create pathways for players from the academy ✅

That is literally all the ambition is at the club these days. I don't think there's even a pretence anymore that we're trying to get back to the premier league. The only issue is that we haven't bought many players that are 'championship ready'. The majority are going to take months to get up to speed and even then it's inevitable some won't be good enough.

I had the same feeling when Tavares was signed and then we were linked with Baradji. I dont think that the original intention would have been that either of those two were brought in to sit on the bench, I reckon they were the Tronstad/Travis replacements but the situation was then complicated by Baradji's medical situation.

Job is a good one indeed. Couldn't have designed it any better.

Meanwhile the regime defenders will point to Hyam's (self inflicted) contract situation, and 'versatility' of the incomer and continue to try and argue it is a job well done.

We have moaned for ages about selling players before their contract expire. I didn't realise we had to clarify said players would need replacing with players of the same quality to avoid relegation.
