Norwich currently 1-0 down to Sheffield Wednesday, would be their 7th defeat in a row. You have to assume they'll be left with no choice but to sack Manning if they lose tonight.

1-1 now. Amusing side note, just before the break Duffy threw a tantrum directed at Liam Manning. Promptly subbed off at half time. Lol.

Rob Edwards supposedly been approached by Wolves. Have to think that'd be a big blow for Boro after their best start to a season in decades.

Rejected by Boro. Doesn't feel like it'll be that hard to keep him. Only be swapping leagues - or at worst in the same league - in six months time

seems a pointless move for Edwards. Wolves squad need massive investment in January in order to stay up, Not sure its a wise move for him. or for any promising head coach. Its a job I wouldn't be rushing taking it

You'd assume Wolves wouldn't have made a formal approach unless they'd been given an indication Edwards is interested. Not sure if he has a release clause or whether Boro can reject Wolves' advances irrespective.

Hes also got history with Wolves. Big pay rise, instant Premier League football, little expectation of survival and even if they go down theyll have parachute payments and be favourites to come back up.

Edwards would be crazy to take that Wolves job especially with Boro chasing promotion and looking decent.

Wolves's job isn't an attractive one for me. Need major signings there in January to stop getting relegation or money to spend.

Pay rise, instant chance of Premier League football, going back to a club he spent a lot of time at as a player. Would be understandable rather than crazy.

Long way to go yet but two promotions to, one relegation from the Premier League reads a lot better than the inverse. Wolves are a basket case at the minute, no idea why someone would leave a successful, secure job going in all the right direcrions to chance their hand at bailing out the Titanic with a bucket.

His past go at being a 'go down but get them back up' manager at Luton hardly ended well either.

Pay rise for 6 months. So what?

Wolves's squad isn't good enough to stay up IMO. They didnt reinvest well enough in the summer

I think he will take Boro up if he stays there and they add 2 or 3 in January

It probably isnt, but expectations will be low, even if they come down theyll have money to come back up, his wage will still likely be higher especially now but even if they go down, its a club he clearly has an affinity to.

As opposed to at Boro where he might go up but theres less than 50% chance.

Who knows if they will have money to spend if they go down.

I just think his best career move would be staying at Boro not going to Wolves who looks to going down this season for me.

You can't underestimate how important it is for a manager to continue being seen as a premier League manager. Even another 6 months at a relegated club would be better long term than maybe getting promoted from the championship.

Saying so what to a pay rise is also very funny.

Pretty much how it worked here for Eustace

"He won't leave Rovers for Derby"

and yet, he went for what was widely considered as a downgrade at the time as were in and around the playoff places with Derby fighting relegation. Derby probably did their homework too and wouldn't have made an official approach without encouragement.

Payrise, promise of investment and an affinity with the club has been enough in the past to make managers jump ship.

Didn't realise Wolves only had 2 points though, that's a hell of a lot of ground to make up even after just 10 games.

I always find it funny how dismissive people are about earning more money in football, or even resorting to suggestions of greed or implying that people shouldnt factor it in.

He will get presumably a sizeable pay rise and instantly will be managing in the Premier League.

Boro are 2/1 Promotion

Wolves are 4/1 To Stay Up

i.e. right now Boro are more likely than Wolves to be playing in the top tier next season

Interesting choice for him. Wolves is a bit of a free hit - nobody will blame him if they go down and he’d have a big Championship budget to play with the season after

But Boro is a great place to manage, they have a good owner who will back you and give you time (Carrick was there a while).

Similar-ish stuff happened with Kieran McKenna when Ipswich were flying. He stayed and took them up, now they’re back fighting to get in top 6 again in the Championship.

I dont think the managers get that much time. I think Edward’s is their eighth manager in the last ten years.

Middlesbrough are on the slide. They got off to an excellent start but results are starting to fall away.

He's from Shropshire, probably a Wolves fan, played 100 games for them and worked there as a coach. If he has family still in that area that helps.

He can jump up a division, get paid double what he's on at Middlesbrough, have 7 months minimum back in the PL, if he keeps them up he'll be worshipped and get a huge bonus.

It appears to be a huge thankless task but this time last year they were in a similar state yet went on to survive comfortably.
