Souness must go ?

[in fact the closest to "dogs of war" you could get in this league is probably Ince and Rae at Wolves, lots of good it's doing them.

Can I quote you on that in May?

Wolves are now just three points behind us, are slowly clawing their way out of trouble after a disastrous start and appear to have the appetite for the battles ahead.

Our lot, on the other hand.......

This season is the first when one or two problems can no longer be solved with a desperate brandishing of the cheque book. And he's failing gloriously.

Long may it continue.

Did you see the piece on Sky Sports News the other day - Paul Weller going begging door to door trying to sell £1 a week Bumley FC lottery tickets ??

Great interview he gave

At least we've still got a cheque book to brandish - the bank's had yours off you hasn't it ??

And for you to mention "failing gloriously" -   - well, maybe just failing in your case.

you've forgotten how he took us into the premiership and acheived a shock 6th place for us last season.

Shock???

He had the sixth highest wage bill in the Premiership and had a good few quid to blow in the transfer market... and at that stage he still hadn't had to sell off the players he had the good fortune to inherit.

Sixth is the least the board could have expected, just as promotion was before that.

This season is the first when one or two problems can no longer be solved with a desperate brandishing of the cheque book. And he's failing gloriously.

and you inbraeds are chuffin loaded, have you bought a sheep shirt with your name on it ???it will look good on ann teaques roadshow in a few years.........DONT YOU CONCERN YERSELF WITH US SAMANTHA ,JUST PLAN WHO YOU ARE GOING TO SUPPORT WHEN BUMLEY HAVE GONE BUST!!

I saw that it was very funny, burnley fc begging for money on T.V, it actually put the club in a bad light, because they were begging. And they took paul weller round as if they were showing him off or was he the prize

And a new signing scored...the moaners have nothing to talk about.

Its all Souness' fault - what does he think hes doing?  Winning a game?

After three

Sack the board

sack the board

sack the board

Aint it sad one win and Im on a silly high the morning after!

Souness should not be sacked, all this talk should be stopped and the thread locked, we are now in our a better position than we have been in for the last few months, and with newcastle on wednesday a fully winable game, we could be flying higher. He HAS to be given till the end of the season.

Good point there slater_scott.

Souness should be given till the end of the season, but there`s still some doughts in my mind if he`ll be there come August. The comments he has made on T.V in the last few weeks it has crossed my mind that he might resign, especially after the City. I`m just glad that he had the courage of dropping Cole and Yorke.

We`ll have to see where we are in May, and then make our minds up from there. The place we`re in doesn`t reflect Souness as a manager, he has had a lot of bad luck through key players being out, but I do hope he sticks by it.

If Souness was going to leave, do you really think he'd take a risk and buy a 20 year old d3 player to keep us up? No.

He quite clearly has his eyes set on he future, and his comments on Gally and Stead to be a ''real force for us'' in the future suggests he's going nowhere.

How dare Souness get a win, he's rubbish, Souness out this second. We will be relegated if he stays.  :<img src=:'> :D

With the bottom 4 all losing, it's given us some breathing space for now. If he is to go, he should leave at the end of the season, and when someone better is available, like Iain Dowie for example.

ian muther******* dowe?! oh...i get it, your being sarcastic. :D

great result! i applaud souness on an inspired team selection. stead and gallagher appeared to work quite well together and i knew gallagher would eventually work well off a big player like stead - heres to the future. played douglas as well which i was pleased with. what was especially nice to see was souness' no-nonsense touch; having yorke out of the squad brought a huge smile to my face and even jansen was played over cole. finally a kick up the back side! souness once more shows he has real balls - risking stead, gallagher and douglas was a risk and it paid off. well done that man.

i agree with slater_scott though, the thread should be locked and nobody should be allowed to commit such blasphomy and suggest souness should go, even if it is at the end of the season. id like to see souness on the touchline till hes an old grey haired man (well more so then he is now anyway)

If I was Souness I would be intrigued about what I could achieve with a young talented squad. Ferguson, Thompson, Niell and Emerton are all at their or reaching their peak with at tleast five seasons of football left in them. Also they are proven top class players who provide experience to the team. Gallagher is going to be a top class striker, there can be little doubt about that, while Steadinho is full of promise. Fiedel is much older than the rest but as a keeper would be hoping to play at the top level into his late thrities

Gresko, Nissa and Todd all have a few seasons left in them (in Nissa's case, quite a few!) and have variated in form- but ultimately have looked capable of cutting it if they settle down. Add to this exciting youth team players like Johnson, Danns, Douglas and most importantly Donnelly and we have a great future. Look at the side-

             Steadinho       Gallager

Thompson                           Emerton

               Donnelly

                           Ferguson

    Gresko                              Niell

                Nissa       Todd

                       Friedel

Out of those only Donnelly and Stead are untested at Premiership level. And while question marks would hang over Nissa and Gresko both have enjoyed excellent games for the club and hopefully will find their form. An addition of a young left winger (downing? we have been connected to him) and we would look good.

If I was Souey I wouldnt be able to resist it- especially as all the players would have been brought to the club or come up through the academy under him. The average age can only be about 24!

Souness won't leave the club, I think this win and the couple of new signings have created some strong positive vibes, it can clearly be seen by reading this board. That is something Souey has to be given credit for, he spent about a million this transfer window and has brought in 3 players who have not only improved the squad but have changed the atmosphere, and in that way he has been successful with his responsibility to the fans. We may not have the greatest season this year, but there is certainly the great chance to push on next year if we arent so unlucky with injuries, as well as the couple of additions that will probably come in. Souey doesn't seem the type of man to back down from a challenge that has a good chance of producing something good, we'll never win the league, but there has been a nucleus for success (for our club that would be achieving 5th or 6th place) all season, some of us have stuck by these comments all year, others only when we win, and the rest just moan all day. At the end of it all though I firmly believe that this team will go onto good things.

how many times have clubs sacked a manager or a managers left and the club has slipped down the league... providing souness is still here (which i pray he will be) we have a real chance of europe next season. and now with those youngsters coming through we have a far deeper squad to prepare for injuries. does anybody know how long cole and yorke have left on their contracts? because if we can atleast get something for them this summer (because it does look like theyl be out, especially yorke) we might be able to snap up a left midfielder and mayb a cheapo striker. heres to hoping and hopeing parma get more and more in debt so we can get bresciano...

It's to early to say that he's got it all sorted out, but I just have to say that this win is typical of Souness. When the chips are down, he makes the bravest decisions, gambles if you will, and scrapes out wins and much needed points. It's one of my biggest praises of him, he's a real manager, using every means available to him to get the best out of the team.

Perhaps it will only be, or more appreciated when he leaves, but he is one of the best to ever manage Rovers, and only that single great achievement by Dalglish shades him out of the best in my book. He's in a firm, but fond second place in my book.

I think the man really personifies everything we would like our club to be, skilled but hard working, and never gives up. He was like that as a player and he's carried it into management, we're very lucky to have him at the helm, and anyone who thinks otherwise should just think of every other manager we've had since Dalglish.

Is some one keeping an eye on jim?  A win at Boro he's going to be quite depressed you know.

I must admit to being a little worried, I havnt seen him since abour 3.39pm yesterday.....  :p

Quote (jim mk2 @ Feb. 07 2004, 23:41)

Welcome and surprising win considering our Nationwide League line-up.

Have no worries about jim, he managed to comment last night.

I wonder if he kissed or was it kicked his dog again, after his last moment of madness when Rovers won.

Sportsmen don't reach their peak until they reach 28yo. so apart from tommo who i think is about 27.....the other 3 are all at least2/3 years away from that.

replacing these bloke with younger ones only adds to the lack of experiance. we need a mixture, so that the older blokes can kinda look after the young lads.

ROVERS FOREVER

how the hell can you pin an exact age of when footballers peak?! some players are amazing when theyre young and slowly fade away or are consistently good or consistently bad. different players will peak at different times and will have good and bad seasons.

replacing our older players like cole and yorke with younger players wont just add to lack of experience but will add freshness, competition for places, and generally better footballers. and we have a blend of experience and youth now, which we didnt before.

what a narrow minded comment...
