Even playing Devil’s Advocate, I can only offer a heavily caveated one: We have hugely increased the number of academy prospects playing in the team, and therefore creating valuable assets to sell.* *Because we are playing at a lower standard of football, where the likes of Gavin Gunning, Aaron Doran, Keith Treacy used to be loaned to. Now we play at that standard and they play for us instead of the minnows we used to send them to.

Genuinely when they were so excited about the early announcement, I thought they’d finally listened and gone for ‘£150 all over the ground to celebrate 150 years of Rovers’. Nope.

Exactly. It wasn’t a positive having to hear Steve K***’s bullshit every other fucking day. On the other hand, while it was rarely through official club channels, I quite enjoyed hearing Broughton speak. Usually on some podcast or other.

Going back even further, if any reputable manager had the squad that Bowyer and his dad managed to put together, we would’ve gone up. 40+ goals between Rhodes and Gestede (alongside Conway, Marshall, Cairney, King) and we managed eighth.

I suggest backing the manager with credible signings in January instead of driving them out. Run the club properly, in other words. Or, hand it over by sale or by administration to someone else to have a go. We have EVERYTHING to make this club a success and only incompetents or Burnley fans would have failed to get us into at least multiple playoffs since 2013.

I may be right or wrong, but I’d put forward a couple of reasons: 1. It’s an about turn from the critical friend stance, so would likely require a mandate from their membership. 2. The Trust has lots of ties to the Football Governance Bill (Tracey Crouch even used some prose directly lifted from submissions by Trust members), and it would be professionally difficult to simultaneously be in prime position to form a shadow board AND adversarial towards the club regardless of anyone’s personal feelings. 3. There are rules and regulations that govern what WATR is actually allowed to do (and crucially HOW to do it) due to their specific status as a company/charity (I’m not knowledgeable enough on the specifics). Other groups do not have the above to contend with and are essentially fan groups. If there were one group I would understand not explicitly breaking with the club JUST NOW (I’m certain there are straws that would shatter this camels multiple herniated discs), it is WATR. I would hazard a guess that their AGM (can’t be far off now? June ish?) will be something for people to look out for if there is any stance change.

Have WATR actually been invited to join up? Has someone from your side reached out?
