In the old days, it was an expectation and rightly so. .So much so, that we can easily remember short interludes, when there was a goalkeeping deficit. For nearly a decade, the goalkeeping deficit has been the norm. FOV (just saying!)

I think it is a gross minimisation, which, for me, is like listening to someone scraping their fingers down a blackboard.
