  1. Chapman has just got his second. And sounded like heavily involved in other goals too. If you trail through the twitter feed of all the u23 games Chapham generally is close to everything that is good, whether that be scoring, assisting or creating dangerous opportunities. Granted I'm not seeing him live, just going off what I can see on Twitter and match reports.
  2. What an utter disgrace. All the money in the game and Bury are expelled from the league. Where are Neville brothers? Or anyone else for that matter?
  3. Frustrating on so many levels. I actually think it's quite important to progress as much as possible in the cups, because it gives as many opportunities as possible (in a competitive but relatively pressure free environment) for the young players like Buckley, Chapman, Grayson, JRC etc to play. When are these guys going to get the next chance to play now we're out? Selection: 1.) Why play smallwood? Clearly not good enough. I understand resting Johnson, but travis? He's 21 and will want to play as much as he can, playing tues/sat is not an issue at that age. Should have been Evans with Travis 2.) Why play Buckley on the right. Dack picks up knocks, rest him and play Buckley central and then Chapman on the right. 3.) Why is Armstrong taking pens?! The game was there for the taking and if we had scored that pen, would have gone on to comfortably win I think. The positive is dominating a prem team who despite the changes had more money on the pitch then our whole club is worth.
  4. Dominate the game then concede from a corner. Rovers 101.
  5. Surely if Dack is in the pitch he takes it. Again bizarre. Armstrong is an instinctive footballer not a clever one. Shouldn't take pens
  6. Don't understand why you wouldn't rest dack, play Buckley in the middle and then Chapman wide? Why shoehorn a young player like Buckley into a wide position bizarre imo.
  7. Happy with the point and the clean sheet, but I must say the lack of goal scoring and even chance creation is starting to become a worry. Up until now I was thinking that it was just a co-incidence, teams go through patches like this, our just happened to be at the start of the season. However just 3 goals this season, none from open play in 5 games! None of our strikers or midfielders (outside of a penalty) have scored. The selection across that top 3 behind DG is confusing. I understand Downing on the left. He is left footed and provides good quality passes and set pieces. I did think that as he is 35 and played 90 min in midweek he could have been rotated out for Rothwell, but no too much of a complaint. However, why persist with SG on the right? Surely it would have been a good change to play Rothwell or potentially Armstrong and then bring on SG for DG when he tires in the last 20.
  8. Interesting to note that Fulham beat Millwall 4-0 tonight and had a record breaking 85% possession. Does show that we competeted well against them in our visit last week.
  9. We're 3 games into the new season and already there is no one with a 100% record. Goes to show what a tight and competitive division it's going to be, so vital to start well to keep up with the top sides if we have any ambition of top 6.
  10. The issue is of course, if DG does play tonight against Hull, would he then be able to play against cardiff at home?? If there needed to be a choice, I'd rather he play the home game, and play the more mobile Gally up top with Armstrong and Rothwell out wide for the counter attack for the Hull game.
  11. DG should be starting home games, the slightly strange part about it all is that TM has told us the same numerous times (also acknowledging that away from home he needs someone more mobile). So what does he do first game of the season against a newly promoted team who we knew would defend deep with 2 banks of 4 and wed have 65% possession..? Not play DG?! Sounded like an exciting 2nd half. Glad that downing has done more then Whittingham already then in that whole league 1 season. Even if he doesn't play all the time, you'd expect him to bang in the odd long ranger and get a few assists.
  12. What cos I made a couple changes to the suggested team the post above mine? Behave, have you seen the suggested teams others have put on this thread?
  13. I like that line up. Except I'd play downing on the left, Buckley in dack's position (whod I'd leave on the bench) and then give travis and Johnson 45 each for other centre mid spot as I feel they still need the minutes. Perhaps Grayson for Tosin?
  14. I certainly don't subscribe to the idea of getting rid of TM, not at this stage anyway. He deserves at least 10 games or so, any side can loose their first couple. However I do think that he's under pressure, a different kind of pressure to the last couple seasons. Two major factors. 1.) We didn't have a good 2nd half of the season, we had clear defensive deficiencies, especially away from home. TM had the whole summer to sort out that problem and the jury is out on whether that has done so. I think a back line of Cunningham, Del/lenhian, Tosin and RN is decent, but he will live or die by that choice. 2.) The other part of the situation is that he has built up a pretty capable championship squad and that brings it's own pressure to deliver. It is most definitely his squad, no more inherited dross excuses. A bench of Bell, downing, Chapman, brereton, Graham, evans, Buckley and Grayson is pretty strong at this level in my opinion. It will be interesting and I am really hopeful that it comes off. Hes a genuine football bloke, I just hope his conservatism doesn't hold him/us back.
  15. He's not 19, he's 22 next month. Yes young, but not that young. He's been a professional footballer for 4 years, played in the champions league and a full season for a playoff champ team last season. How about him next to downing at left back?
  16. What was so frustrating about the performance on Saturday was that we seemed to throw everything away that we had worked on from pre-season. I realise that the opposition during pre-season was a waste of space, but we played 4-2-3-1 with the right midfielder playing hard right (armstrong) and Rothwell playing on the left, but tucked in. Then come match day, he plays downing on the right and armstrong on the left so that they are constantly cutting inside on their favoured foot and narrowing the pitch. Then the subs didnt make any sense. DG needs to start these kinds of games so that we can play through him. If he doesn't start, there is no point bringing him on as we just go diagonal. Bell should have been subbed off, Downing to left back and Rothwell on. Armstrong shouldnt have been subbed off, or if you do, then BB should have replaced him. SG should never have been playing out right either.
  17. Absolute fing disgrace. All that optimism, punctured like a balloon by bad selections and defensive mentality. Soul destroying result
  18. My team for Charlton would be; Walton RN Lenihan Tosin/Mulgrew Downing Johnson Travis Armstrong Dack Rothwell Graham Happy to go with Tosin if hes well acquainted with the other defenders, but know its more likely that TM will go with Mulgrew. I certainly think the defense will benefit from having both Johnson and Travis shielding them with their mobility and energy. Too often last season it was like a knife through butter with Smallwood and Evans. TM has said many times that when we play at home against a team who will defend deep and give us possession of the ball, he will play DG as the main striker. Makes sense, unlikely to get in behind (at least down the middle), much more potential down the sides with Armstrong or Rothwell and DG can hold the ball up and bring others into play. However I would potentially expect SG to start against Fulham as we need a striker who is much more mobile as well likely have much less of the ball and be looking to play on the counter. Where does that leave BB? Its a good question as I think this could be a real breakout year for him, but cant help feel hes more of a 2 up top type striker.
  19. I saw something like that myself on a Rovers group on facebook. No sources, just rumors based on us not guaranteeing him 75% of games. Really hope not, his height and pace would compliment Lenihan perfectly imo.
  20. I remember him signing a new contract recently, when does that go through to? You'd think 90mins vs Oldham was a given.
  21. Looks like Chapman and the Nut got a useful run out for the u23s tonight. Chapman scored twice and assisted and the Nut also scored. No match report, just twitter updates from Rivers at this stage, so unsure if they played 90mins but hopefully at least an hour into the legs
  22. Bit of catch 22 situation with the Dingles in Europe. Do we hope for them to be knocked out this qualifying round, so that we can laugh at them for being out before the competition 'proper' has even begun; or do we wish for them to progress to the group stage and thus their league form hampered into winter, by which time it might be too late to escape? Decisions decisions..
