  1. No3 and the deep lying playmaker (Reminds me a bit of Wharton) both look good.
  2. The past 10-15 years has either made me an objective-realist or a tremendous pessimist.. I can't help but think of the underinvestment. The club's made a relative fortune in player sales over the past couple of years, yet here we are. How much have we re-invested this summer in transfer fee's? The players we've brought in are reflective of our budget, and, as a general rule of thumb, we all know you finish where you spend.. I obviously love Rovers and cling to the hope these new lads fire us up the table but I am doubtful. The squad of a few years ago has been absolutely dimantled. The Japanese lad, fair play, scored a couple, yet it's very early doors.. Gueye, whilst he does appear to have some good attributes, as a striker, it does help to be able to finish too.. Midfield, I still think we're woefully short. Trondstadt is great, Travis too, but we don't have any GOOD ball carrying midfielders. We're massively short on pace and creativity and have a dodgy defence. I know footy is very subjective, hope I'm wrong and we dick Bunleh today and rampage the league but I just think we lack any real quality.. Hope to be proven wrong.
  3. I'm with you on Hyam. Never been a fan.. Didn't look enamoured to be here when we signed him either.. Id be happy to see him out the door Give one of our young lads a look in as backup to Bathh
  4. Very pessimistic about our odds this season. Dodgy keeper with a dodgy defence in front of him. No pace. No goals. I don't share the optimism about the new lads. They've played two games against two poor sides. You get what you pay for. Selling our best players and not adequately reinvesting is going to cost us.
  5. I thought Leonards off the ball movement was really poor. However he's a fairly good finisher. A league one striker if there ever was one along with Vale..
  6. I'd be happy to sell Hyam and Pears.. Hyam for me isn't anywhere near mobile enough.. I was just watching that back pass that went in against Wednesday last season... Pears needs to be a no2 at best.. Sell the pair. Easily replaceable in my opinion.. I think Buckley may have a utility IF we sign quick wingers with good movement. Would like to see Ayari come back, preferably on a permanent along with another ball carrier too.
  7. Smacks of desperation, signing loads of cheap shite to fill the squad out... Still need a good keeper, two pacey wingers and a decent striker.. Same as what we needed at the start of the window. Be nice to have a good ball carrying centre mid too.
  8. Rarely played him as a centre forward. Majority of his time was spent as a wide/pressing forward. In his loan spell under Coyle many moons ago we played with wingers and he scored a fair few. However, even when given a chance in his natural position over the past few seasons he's been fairly poor. Missed some right sitters, for his height he's poor aerially and hold up play is lacklustre relatively speaking.. I'd rather have kept him, but that's an indictment of the current state of the club rather than a ringing endorsement. Hope he does okay for you as he's a likeable, hard-working lad. Good luck for the season ahead.
  9. Who was that other young lad we lost a few years ago- think it also went to tribunal. Doing my head in. Think he was a league one club on loan last season..
  10. Diaz was great last year in a struggling Sheff United side. He's a good player, Premiership is his level.
  11. I stand by what I said at the beginning of the tournament. I think SOME of our players are very over-rated. Rice and Gallagher were dreadful.. Kane's legs have gone, I'd say even as an impact sub he has absolutely no use at all if that's his physical state. Our system either required a high press- something Kane couldn't do or pace to counter-attack if we were inviting teams onto us.. Gordon down one side would have helped massively with a midfielder that didn't take 28 touches before looking for a pass would have supplemented that really well (Wharton). Palmer made an impact every single game despite his paltry game time, why not start him? Walker was horrific, Trent is sat on the bench.. In Southgate's defence, he did make some very brave calls in his selection. Lets not forget who he left at home, Grealish, Rashford etc. I don't dislike him, I do think eventually he'll deliver, in fact, I still think he's over delivering with the current crop. A few tweaks, some pace out wide- Wharton in the middle, Trent at wingback, a world class forward and ball carrying centre mid and I think we'd be there.. Southgate out? I'm not sure. This squad, whilst being 'good' isn't brilliant. He makes good calls and bad calls but he's far superior to Sven and Cappello... I think we'd be looking at a Potter, Howe type as his successor. I'd prefer a Mournihio or Klopp... Anyway, despite the abject performances, that's another final in the bag- well done boys.
  12. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pissed. But ESP are a slightly better Netherlands. 3-1 England.
  13. We desperately need a change of ownership.
  14. I thought Foden was really poor, again. Him, along with Trippier & Kane (due to his positioning) are our weak links. Shaw in for Trippier Palmer in for Foden I'd like to see two upfront- Kane and Watkins ideally. I like Tony but he's not very mobile.
  15. Against Slovakia we inserted some urgency, played with impetus and TWO up front and low-and-behold, bagged two goals. Southgate then hooked a striker and put everyone behind the ball inviting pressure for the rest of extra time. The guy kills me. Rovers do it, get a lead and then sit back until they concede. It's a dreadful, backward strategy, especially when in the ascendancy.
  16. I said right at the start I thought this England team was massively over-rated. I stand by that. It's an unbalanced mess. Having several very good no 10's doesn't make a good team: Foden, Bellingham, Palmer, Kane, even Eze all like to occupy the 10 position. You've got the ineffective Foden on one wing and then the sluggish Saka on the other- who also likes to cut inside and you're looking like a disjointed, congested mess. Then you throw in a defence that and centre midfield that don't like to move the ball forward at any speed and you become very, very easy to defend against. I said I thought we'd struggle to get past the QF's still do. Switzerland are a better team than us. For me we need someone in front of the back four that can progress the ball forwards. Our man, Wharton turned the game in his last performance (albeit a friendly). He, along with pace out wide and a partner upfront for Kane is what we're missing. Go three at the back: GK: Pickford DC: Walker DC: Stones DC: Gomez LWB: Saka RWB: Trent or Gordon CDM: Wharton (Deep Lying Playmaker) CM: Rice CM: Bellingham ST: Kane ST: Watkins I'd have my wingbacks more as wingers. When defending the back three slides across to the side being attacked- So Walker becomes your right back, Stones and Gomez your centre halves, Saka fills in at left back- perhaps his height and poor ability in the air would be a problem, but I think we'd at least be posing problems going forwards.
  17. How long does it usually take to find out the summer transfer budget?👀 You'd think that would be agreed way in advance of the summer to allow for scouting etc...
  18. Last night was exactly how I imagined we'd play in this tournament.. Uninspiring, disjointed and lacking in creativity. Really hope we grow in to this tournament.. Think Wharton would have been tremendous in a game like yesterday- moving the ball forwards through the lines. I really think he could be the key in us going anywhere in this tournament. That and perhaps move to two upfront as someone else suggested, play Kane as a 10 and stick a striker up front as 9 otherwise we end up without any forward presence. 3-5-2 Walker- Stones - Guehi Saka- Bellingham - Rice - Wharton - Eze Kane Toney/Watkins I think having someone that can pass forward and maintain composure is vital- Wharton is surely a better option than Trent in CM- I don't dislike Mainoo but he doesn't offer as much as Wharton. Eze is a great player, skillful and fast- dropping Foden might be a bit harsh in some respects but now we have two players in their natural positons. Then next prob I think we have is a lack of presence up front. By playing two upfront we can allow Kane to drop into the hole without losing a presence upfront. The shift in formation to three at the back makes sense to me- we don't have a fit left back and Trippier is past his best. I still don't think we're very good. Stand by my QF's. Hopefully the boys go on to gain some confidence and prove me wrong!
  19. Whilst I like Scotland I'm not a fan of that Porteous or whatever his name is.. Bit of a shit house- I could be wrong but wasn't he taunting the Rovers fans last season when we played Watford- he'd picked up a bit of a knock too? Anyway, my memory is shocking so could be wrong- glad to see him get an deserved red though for an absolutely disgusting tackle. Leg breaker every day that. Poor player. Glad we never signed him.
  20. ahhaha, so it has! I still think they'd struggle to get past the QF's
  21. I can't be the only one that thinks England are not that good.. Keepers: Dodgy Defence, fairly dodgy too.. Only one natural left back that's coming back from injury.. Rice is very good, Wharton and Gallagher are also good players, as is Mainoo.. We have an abundance of talent that all plays in the same position: Palmer, Bellingham, Foden all like to play as a 10.. Kane likes to drop into the 10 too.. Saka likes to cut inside too- very congested area. I really think we're massively over-rated, just like previous years. I'd like to see Eze and Saka out wide. Perhaps Wharton in CM too- passes forward. Can Foden play a bit deeper with Bellingham in the 10 role? I think that could work well working off Kane... So perhap: Pickford Walker Stones Trippier Gomez Rice Foden Saka Eze Bellingham Kane To me that's not a great side- France with Zidane, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Spain- they were world class sides.. This is another over-hyped false dawn.. Dodgy defence, negative manager and players that believe their own hype. I think we'll be lucky to get to the QF's let alone win it.
  22. I'm talking about exceptional talent, ripping it one division below. Lots of the games we play are absolutely nailed on wins.. I think if there's U21 players that you have a feel for in the division below, why not give them a go in those games... Blooding in the next generation.... Succession planning and all that.. I'm not talking about picking an 11 of championship players, but I think there will be circumstances in which in may be worth rolling the dice, being brave and giving someone a go from that division.. Saying that, I'll buck the trend and say fair play to Southgate.. Made some really big calls going into this tournament, deserves some credit.
  23. Exactly, hence them being selected. Wharton only just got into the U21 squad whilst he was with us despite outstanding statistics.. Goes to Palace and suddenly he's an England Player... Nah, he was capable of playing at that level when he was with us.. Why not get these lads in to have a look instead of waiting until they're PL
  24. I think Southgate needs to start using friendlies to test a couple of lads from the Championship.. In these nothing friendlies if you've a player that's looking very promising in the championship, throw them in and have a look.. As seen with Wharton and Eze, there's some quality knocking about. Why not give them a look.. I certainly would.. I get the rationale behind waiting until they're playing at the very top, but sometimes I think you can be cutting your nose off to spite your face.. Selecting shite from top teams that never plays whilst over looking young lads playing out their skin a division below.. At least keep an open mind..
