  1. And who is one of the top members of Uefa's executive committee & Chair of the ECA it is Nasser Al-Khelaifi the chairman of PSG who's other jobs include being the minster without portfolio in the Qatari government. In one post you complain that its all about money then in your very next post say you have no problem with clubs being owned by nations state who invest. So which is it? Because the more nation states get involved the more money there is going to be at the very top of the game.
  2. A strange take that you are criticising it being all about money for big clubs when on the previous page you were saying that you had no problem with state ownership. The more clubs that are state owned the more money there will be for the big clubs and the wider the gap gets between them and clubs from smaller nations.
  3. Fair being the key word there.
  4. Newcastle are state owned. Clubs like Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Spurs (who don't even belong in the conversation to be honest) whilst being hugely rich clubs cannot financially get near clubs owned by entire nation states. Newcastle and City have bottomless pits of money. The fact that City willing let them go they are by definition cast offs. It should do. It certainly isn't a good thing for clubs like Rovers.
  5. I don't know why people blame Morsy for Dack's injury it wasn't his fault just like his second one wasn't Raya's fault. It was a rather innocuous incident no foul was given it was just awfully unfortunate for Dack
  6. I'm not disputing that the Premier League is a great league but there is no doubt that City are utterly dominant of the last 18 trophies on offer in English football they have won 11 of them. Arsenal are miles short of them as it showed when push came to shove & Arsenal were only competing in one competition. Look at Arsenal's two main singings last summer two Man City cast offs. Spurs are a poor team who's league position reflected their squad, they are light years away from City. Liverpool have been the only side to push City over the last 6 seasons but they don't have the state ownership like City to continually spend huge sums on world class players every summer and this year it caught up with them. Financially City are competing in a different stratosphere compared with the rest of the league except from perhaps Newcastle & the only thing that will get other clubs near them is state ownership but the prospect of the title race in English football in coming years being between multiple clubs own by nation states is for me a rather unappetising one.
  7. In the last 6 seasons they have won 5 league titles & half the domestic cups on offer in that period. If that isn't a stranglehold then I don't know what is.
  8. Just imagine if Nathan Jones had taken the easy option stayed in his Welsh mining community, taught PE and married a nice Welsh girl then City may well have done the quadruple.
  9. Mansour is the deputy PM & Vice President of a nation state, his brother is President. He has the backing and wealth of an entire nation behind him what he has done has not been for City it has been for him to promote his nation to a global audience which the Premier League has. The people who deserve the most credit at City are the commercial team who between 2010 & 2016 achieved extraordinary things. Not least how they managed to upwardly renegotiate the UAE's national airlines naming rights of the stadium 4 times between 2013 & 2016.
  10. As talented and influential a manager as Guardiola is both of his trebles have question marks hanging over them. In City's case its 115 charges from the Premier League and in Barca's case payments to refs from 2001-2018 (which covers Guardiola's entire tenure). Also worth pointing out that City would not have been in the Champions League this season if they had not have won their CAS appeal. But it's also worth pointing out that CAS did not find them 'completely innocent' as Guardiola has previously claimed, in fact they were proven innocent of nothing it was just that the most serious of charges were time barred but CAS did find them to have contravened FFP regulations for a second time. But when it comes to the Premier League charges neither CAS or a time can save them.
  11. As I said the other day they are a Frankenstein's monster of a club there is nothing real or authentic about them. They were just fortunate that the deputy Prime Minister of the UAE (who attend his 2nd game in 13 years last night) wanted to promote his country to a global audience which the Premier League has & chose them to do it. It was a dark day for football though that a nation state owned club has finally managed to buy the Champions League and sadly it will be far from the last time.
  12. A dark day for football that a nation state have finally bought the Champions League. For all the love Kevin de Bruyne gets from the media very in the big games for City it is usually the likes of Gundogan, Silva & Rodri who produce them. Wasted at Man City though if he played for practically any other club in Europe he'd start every week
  13. You can guarantee that Villa under Emery will be going all out to win it next season.
  14. A sad indictment of English football supporters that they cannot be trusted to drink alcohol inside the ground.
  15. Spurs are a fading power upwardly mobile progressive looking clubs like Newcastle, Villa & Brighton have all overtaken them. The days of Spurs playing in the Champions League are gone Levy failed to make hay while the sun was shinning. A few years back they had a world class players all over the pitch now the only one they have is Kane. The first thing that Spurs need to invest heavily in is their defence that the likes of Dier & Davies start most weeks and that Sanchez is still apart of their squad encapsulates why they have regressed.
  16. The celebration after his first goal should automatically discount that out as an option.
  17. Given Celtic's dominance in the last decade or so can you even call it a 2 horse race? I had to laugh at a stat I saw the other day that the Canadian right back Johnston that Celtic signed in January has won more trophies in Scotland in just over 5 months than Rangers' right back Tavernier has won in 8 seasons.
  18. Whether you like United or not there is no arguing that they made their financial might through their own success. City got their money because the deputy Prime Minister of the UAE wanted something to promote his country to a global audience which the Premier League has. There are 115 charges hanging over them as to whether it was all done within the league rules. And Uefa & CAS have found them to have contravened FFP regulations.
  19. As good a footballing side as Man City are they just leave me absolutely cold. There is nothing natural about them they are just a Frankenstein's Monster of a club whose success stems from the money of one man who has been to watch them once throughout the entire duration of his ownership. At least when the likes United & Liverpool were successful you could dislike them, with City I just feel a complete apathy towards them with the occasional thanks that they have stopped a mass Liverpool love in within the media. When they got handed the league title the other week we had the surreal experience of watching the Chief Executive of the Premier League handing out the title and medals to City whilst he is Chief Executive of the organisation who allege 115 counts of rule-breaking against City. It's a shame really to see Guardiola wasting his talents on such a plastic project.
  20. Bellamy at Portsmouth in whatever season it was he played for us. The finest performance I have seen in a Rovers since Shearer. There are so many Friedel performances I can think of but the one that stands out for me was Souness' last game in charge at home to Man Utd he was sensational that day and robbed of a clean sheet by Alan Wiley missing a blatant handball to set up their last minute equaliser.
  21. He was never going to be at Leeds next season even if they stayed up. The Leeds job was an ideal few weeks work for him to top up to his retirement fund.
  22. Friedel Berg England Nelsen Newton Douglas Clayton Tugay Duff Shearer McCarthy
  23. The problem for Leeds is they will struggle to shift them because simply put the players aren't very good.
  24. The only club to worry about if they get their act together is Leicester other than that there is absolutely nothing to fear.
