They were knackered in extra time. Italy in particular were kicking it anywhere. That doesn’t happen to the same degree in the men’s game.

The fact that there has been a drop off in quality when we’ve subbed players has led to us conceding more than our share of goals in the last 10 minutes of games. Just my opinion. We’ve also kept key players on the pitch for too long because our subs weren’t good enough. That leads to them getting tired and then getting injured.

The great Stanley Matthews was well known for wanting to be paid for playing in charity games. He wouldn’t play in Bill Eckersley’s testimonial for that reason, and he must have known Bill really well. Having said that this was in the £20 a week maximum wage era.

Going back to the rest of the game. We started slowly and looked tired to me The first half was poor with Italy looking like they had our number. Second half we upped our game and got on top. In extra time we looked the best team and up for it. I thought we brought the subs on 10-15 minutes later than they should have been. We rode our luck again though when our keeper somehow kept out that shot in front of goal. It really should have been over then.

Not only that but it was right in front of the referee. She had the best view of all.

I always used to think that if you’re going to give a penalty so late in the game it’s got to be a real penalty because you’re effectively deciding the game.

I though it was a pen but you see things like that happen 10 times a game and nothing is given.

Well we did it. We rode our luck again but we were the best team I think. Another awful penalty. Why are they all at a saveable height ?

The girl that scored should have on 15 minutes sooner,

We’ve been poor so far. No tempo and getting over run in midfield.

The girl thst came on when the other centre half did her ankle ( Morgan ) had a good game.

He was a fantastic player before the injuries. A throw back to the players who could go past people like they weren’t there.

He got stuck in and he didn’t take a backward step. I liked that about him. Sometimes you can be too brave for your own good. As he gets older he’ll learn how to look after himself better on the pitch.

I’ve said it before but during a recent game and a long bout of to you - to me - and back again I caught myself thinking - would I have fallen in love with this style of football back in the day ?

Did he once borrow a quid off you and never paid it back ?

Now he’s back in work he might be able to afford a razor.

He got injured because he was playing too many games back to back. Just like most of our squad last season. We rushed him back. And that finished his season. We’ll see if he’s crock this coming season.

There is no long term at Rovers. We live from week to week, maybe even day to day.

It was exciting though.

Plus like a lot of explosively quick players he was prone to muscle injuries.
