  1. They’ve never really moved on from sacking Sam. That’s after having spent a large fortune with several managers.
  2. Going back when I played our coach was insistent on any of his players being “ bad losers and good winners “. This was in spite of him being an ex Leeds United player. That meant winning should be enough and any piss taking of your opponents was really frowned upon. That’s stuck with me all my life. Maybe you should think about that. I’ve been around long enough to know that football is circular for most clubs outside the top 5 or 6. You have your days in the sun followed by years in the doldrums. In my time I’ve seen loads of the current good teams playing at my local club, Rochdale, in the old Div 4. Brighton, Brentford, Wolves, Bournemouth, to name just four. When the ‘ Dale had their day in the sun they also played Villa and Fulham in the old Div 3.
  3. Not really Prem news but apparently Roberto Martinez who did not a lot with a golden team with Belgium is in line to manage Portugal. It’s great work if you can get it !
  4. What standard do you reckon the England womens team are at. Good mens amateur team ? Or not that good ?
  5. And then you woke up ?
  6. Four teams in for him - allegedly of course. That must start some sort of bidding war.
  7. Yeah, me too. Matty was great but Bellamy had the X factor.
  8. Luxury player. He’ll give it a go if his team is on top but he’ll never get them on top.
  9. Working a Saturday morning was endemic in the engineering industry in my time. One place I worked at was an electrical engineers, blokes would come in dressed for going out on the town. Not much got done and at 11-00 am most of them were gone to the nearest pub. If you worked 8-12 on time and a half it was known as “ the easy six “.
  10. I used to have a Sampdoria shirt like the one that Vialli wore when he was with them. I wore it for playing 5 a side. It was made from quite thick cotton and you sweat buckets in it. I always thought it was a strange choice of material for playing in Italy.
  11. I thought Sam brought Givet in also. Maybe I’m wrong with that ?
  12. I can’t see him going mid season but in Summer, who knows.
  13. He’s not smart enough to go any higher.
  14. Being picky here but - pink boots ? You’d have done really well with those in my day. I wouldn’t have been able to tackle you for laughing.
  15. No, there’s not much down for you if you get that. It’s a bad one.
  16. Wow, that’s a shock. He came over as a very decent bloke.
  17. Well we all know what happens with “ Cheap Options “ . About 1 in 10 actually come off. Plus if you were BBD would you want to go to Everton and a relegation struggle when more interesting offers may well be forthcoming in the Summer ?
  18. I don’t know what line of work you are in Eddie but at all the places I worked at if the top echelon of management were basically absent the ship would have gone down pretty rapidly. The people with their name over the door need to be hands on for the business to thrive.
  19. What woman could be worse than Danny Murphy ? He’s back stealing a living on the TV now.
  20. The Brazilian Ronaldo was a top player, shame about the knees. Franz Beckenbauer was as good if not better than Baresi and Maldini.
  21. Yeah, the lad’s a winner. They’d have known he was playing for sure.
  22. The guy was a genius on the football pitch. He was completely two footed, he could go either way, he had magnetic close control, terrific acceleration, great dummies and feints, a powerful shot and he was a good header of the ball. Along with that he was hard to knock off the ball, he could run with his body over the ball making him very hard to tackle fairly. That clip of the goal against Mexico in the 1962 World Cup ( about 3-50 in the clip ) sums him up. He just runs through the Mexican defence, overpowering any player that came to tackle him. Anybody who thinks Maradona or Messi were better never saw Pele play in his prime. He was jawdroppingly good. He made you rub your eyes in disbelief.
  23. Yeah, Knowsley Road actually meant something to me. The trouble with Rugby League, and I’m a season ticket holder at my local club, is that everything is up for sale.
