  1. Southampton are reportedly paying £4 million in compensation to Luton. No wonder they were happy to let him be interviewed.
  2. It’s nice to go so far. When did we last have a cup run ?
  3. We’d have won that game but for Chris Samba having a brain fart and giving away a stupid pen and getting a red card as well ! If a striker is through on goal and you can’t get a clean tackle in just do your best to pressure them. They can always have the shot saved or shoot wide. Even if they score it’s still 11 v 11.
  4. Is that home or away or are you looking for Mr Gump ?
  5. Edun went clear a ball with the outside of his favoured left foot instead of putting his right foot through it. Nothing to do with luck, just bad technique.
  6. I’m still buzzing from that result. Just a shame that two poor clearances led to their goals. Bucko’s fumble setting up their 1st scorer nicely and Edun trying to clear the cross with his favoured left foot when it was crying out for a right foot clearance. That also was as good as a pass. Two good goals from the Rovers though. Vale very cool to slot that one away. Where did Bererton get that power from, he was almost on top of the ball when he hit the shot. On the downside - Markanday’s miss was a bad one, that could have cost us on another night.
  7. Anybody who can turn Bell into a half decent left wing back must have something.
  8. You could watch Rovers for the next 50 years, if you’re lucky enough of course, and you won’t see a repeat of that - ever.
  9. After tonight every player should feel part of the set up. That’ll be great for after the World Cup. That BBD goal just put another £5 million on his fee.
  10. That’s got to be our best result for ages. I didn’t give us a chance with what was effectively our reserve team. Hats off to the guys who took a pen. Fisher especially having missed a key one recently.
  11. As you say some real plodders there. He’s unlucky.
  12. Looks like young Wharton won’t be playing on Sunday. He’s starting tonight at West Ham.
  13. Every team is suffering but we seemed to be suffering more than most.
  14. Nobody in line for starting on Sunday should be travelling down to London.
  15. I just watched the highlights again. Two wingers getting around the sides of teams caused most of the goals. They should show that film to modern day coaches.
  16. Signed some real dross with the possible exception of Stephane Henchoz who was a class centr half. He had Zanetti, Djorkaeff, Ince and Aaron Winter in midfield when he was in Italy and they were still crap to watch. He did best at clubs were he had hardly any money to spend.
  17. I learnt that lesson listening to the panel after a game in the 1966 World Cup. They were discussing a pass Bobby Charlton made. George Cohen, who was a bit erratic on the ball at right back, had made a run outside Charlton towards the byeline. Instead of passing the ball directly to Cohen Charlton played it up to the touchline making Cohen sprint and cross the ball as soon as he got there. Malcolm Allison said - “ That’s what I call pulling the strings, he made Cohen cross that ball because of where he played the pass “.
  18. Thinking about it - then the ball was played in front of players most of the time for them to run on to. Now it’s played directly to players much more, consequently they’re taking it stood still and they still need two touches.
  19. I liked how everybody was looking to get the ball forward at the first opportunity. The game was more spread out then, there was room for the midfield players to work. Todays it’s all bunched up in the middle.
  20. Good to see Tony Parkes striding across the midfield. Some really good players in that team.
  21. Very dubious, even in todays football. Jimmy Hill, what a shit bag, he never had a good word for us. Showed what a good player Tony Field was, a quicker version of Bradley Dack. I would have put my house on him scoring with that first half chance. What a great advertisement for the old Div 3 that game was. Eccles and Fazackerley must have been our youngest centre half pairing. When you watch that game and then todays football it’s like chalk and cheese, a completely different game.
  22. Phillips and Mola are having their turn on the treatment table apparently.
