  1. Mentioning John Coddington - anybody else see his penalty against Palace ? I still burst out laughing when ever I think of it ! Good job we won though.
  2. This “ resting players for the play offs “ could have a big bearing on who goes down. I understand it, but I don’t like it.
  3. There was some really good players in that squad. Sir Keith was sold to Everton for big bucks and World Cup fame. Alan Hunter went on to great things at Ipswich under Bobby Robson. Ken Knighton, Eamon Rogers and Billy Wilson were top class. Laurie Calloway, who went on to big things in the USA, hardly got a game at left back then but was twice as good as Douglas or Bell. Leaving Sir Keith out of the equation, if you could choose which one of those players who would you like to see in the current team ? Alan Hunter for me, just in front of Ken Knighton.
  4. 10/10 There is no point speculating about signings until we decide what way of playing we intend to adopt next season.
  5. Charter was an Ashton lad who signed as a youth player in January 1968 when he turned 18. He made his debut for us against Oxford at home on Sat March 14th 1970. He kept his place at right back from then until the end of the season. Next season he had several games as a sub and a couple in the No 11 shirt. He left Rovers in August 1971 to join Stockport County, he played 90 games for them.
  6. I’d be crying if I was playing for a team that just got relegated irrespective of my loyalty to Rovers.
  7. So after he’s been here 4 years we basically need a new team ?
  8. Gallagher’s ok jumping against full backs, he’s not so hot when he’s up against a big guy. I agree with your thoughts on Armstrong. He needs 3 chances for every goal, he won’t get that many in the Premier League playing for the teams he’s been linked with. ’
  9. His was a very significant contribution to Rovers winning that final.
  10. I heard all wasn’t well behind the scenes when he was on the coaching staff at Ewood, he upset one or two people.
  11. Mowbray was saying tonight on Radio Lancs that Ayala might get some game time before the end of the season !
  12. Just seen the goals. That could possibly be the worst bit of goalkeeping I’ve seen in a long while. The guy looked like an outfield player having to take over the gloves in an emergency.
  13. The usual disinterested group of players will stroll through a bore fest ending with a 1-1 draw. The lucky fans will be the ones who fall asleep by the half time interval.
  14. Me and a pal stayed outside the ground all night to get our tickets. We were in the first half a dozen. We’d be on our way home to bed when that photo was taken.
  15. Along with the “ I saw Stuart Munro play “ tee shirt. Big money signing that played 1 game for us. I think he got Don McKay fired as a result.
  16. I felt like that after they appointed Coyle. There’s only so much madness you can take in one lifetime.
  17. That’s their master plan. Continually demoralise the support until there’s hardly anybody left. Then pull the plug when there’s nobody left who cares.
  18. Not for me. There’s a reason why Boro are releasing him.
  19. For the first time in 60 years of watching Rovers I’ll be backing us to go down at the bookies if Mowbray is still here in August. Just like when we appointed Coyle, it’s a licence to print money.
  20. If nothing changes at the top where we are now in the league will be considered a success story.
  21. I’m not sure home or away means much these days.
  22. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to lose the next three. All those teams are still putting in performances. We’ve got the deck chairs out. In fact they’ve been out since last autumn.
  23. He keeps telling them they’re “ jaded “ so what do you expect. A ready made excuse not to perform. I used to know the chief exec at my local Rugby League team. He told me “ 90 % of my job is making sure the buggers don’t have any excuses for not performing ! “ Mowbray gives them a get out every time we play.
  24. Rotherham can afford to lose two games and still get to 51 points, we’re still on 50 points.
  25. Are you sure that’s Ian Lawther Jim ? It looks like Keith Newton to me. The first game was actually played on March 5th. A 1-1 draw at Ewood. We lost the replay 3-1 to a 2nd Div team on the 11th. Another post 1960 FA Cup flop. Being fair to the team we’d played on the 2nd, 5th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 23rd, 25th, 29th of March that year. Mick McGrath, John Byrom and Fred Pickering carried the can for the defeat and were all dropped for the next game. I think Mick asked for a transfer afterwards. He lost his place for more or less the rest of the season, the other two were soon re-instated.
