  1. I too had him down as a centre forward mostly, as does wikipedia. Of course he started his career at North End.
  2. I seem to remember having made the same point at the end of last season and in the Autumn. He looks great at first sight because he can run past a few defenders. But he invariably makes the wrong decision, usually giving the ball away, he can’t defend and his positional sense is awful - he just wanders away from his position all the time. I’m away right now and haven’t seen any games since Middlesbrough but before that I thought Buckley was twice the player despite still being a bit too lightweight as yet. He doesn’t dance past players at will, but just passes the ball past them.
  3. I would suspect that if we play Wolves again this December we will have something like that size of crowd. Unfortunately it’s probably more likely we will be playing someone like Rotherham.....
  4. It might be. I’m out of the country until mid March but I’ll have a think about it.
  5. To be fair to Chaddy the £6m he referred to was Bielsa’s salary, which others have then incorrectly read as his player budget when comparing it to Mowbray.
  6. I’m actually a long time ago returner Herbie. I was on one of the podcasts many moons ago talking about the trip to Pune, being one of the Pune9.
  7. I remember when away fans where in the lower tier there was lots of chatter about putting them in the upper tier. Then, when the club did that there has been more chatter (on the Attendances thread I think ), about moving them back to improve the atmosphere. Stuart - perhaps you can provide some evidence that having away fans in the lower tier has affected results? I’m not sure that there is any.
  8. Several pages ago it was said that the meeting spent too long talking about away fans in the Darwen End and that this was something more suited to the Fans Forum. I’ll fess up that I put the item on the agenda (even though I didn’t go to the meeting as I’m away on holiday). Generally the Forum doesn’t put questions forward as we have 6 meetings a year to talk to club management so we leave it to others who don’t . But on this issue we have talked a few times and it’s pretty clear that Steve Waggott now agrees with us that it would be better for atmosphere in the ground if the away fans were closer to the pitch, but that it is Mowbray and the team management who don’t- hence our need to ask the question of Mowbray. Of course neither I nor anyone else from the Forum could control how long the item went on for.
  9. What’s this got to do with Rovers’ future form? I was pointing out that Boro have not been a very poor side recently. In fact their form over the last two months is better than Fulham’s.
  10. On a roll? Their last 10 games have been won 4, drawn 2 and last 4. That includes away draws at Luton and Charlton and 1-0 wins against Boro and Stoke, and they nearly threw away a 3-0 lead on Saturday.
  11. Boro did have plenty of shots but quite a few were speculative and miles away. In the first half Rovers had a few scrambles in the box which probably haven't been counted as shots but could easily have led to a goal. Lies, damned lies and statistics.
  12. Judging from the side of the pitch a draw was a fair result.
  13. The BBC are suggesting that any sale of King relies on Bournemouth picking up Jarred Bowen but that West Ham are favourites for him.
  14. One thing we can be sure about is that Mowbray does not have a Geordie accent.
  15. I'm off to New Zealand on holiday next week and will be missing the next 5 home games, so tonight is my last home game until Leeds in April, so there was never any doubt I would be going. I half expected this game to be rearranged for when I'm away as well so I'm thankful for small mercies.
  16. My point was that VED is not designed to fund road infrastructure improvements and hasn't done for 80 years.
  17. There’s no such tax as road tax and hasn’t been since the 1930s. What you are referring to is vehicle excise duty, which is determined on the CO2 emissions of the vehicle. There is no link between what is raised from this and what is spent on road infrastructure. Your second paragraph should surely logically lead to less car use, particularly if it’s accompanied with greater spending on public transport. Clearly some people need cars to make awkward journeys, either because of the time of the day or location, but by definition these journeys by and large aren’t being made at peak congestion times.
  18. You could just have said he was in Iceland and we could have had another 10 pages of speculation about signing a young Icelandic prodigy.
  19. As long as they let Adarabioyo pass the ball through their midfield like Wednesday did we'll still be fine........
  20. Seen it? I wrote it! It's a rewording of the Fans Forum minutes.
  21. Be very careful with that example. For split ticketing like that to work you must be on a train that stops at the station where you are splitting your ticket. In that example the fast trains don't stop at Milton Keynes so it won't work. You can do it on the trains that go via Birmingham which also stop at Milton Keynes, but they take an hour longer. It might work taking the via Birmingham train and changing at Crewe as long as the second train stops at Milton Keynes.
  22. Bear in mind that the left back he was turning inside out was Morgan Fox, who was being talked about as a possible for us in the transfer thread. The young right back who was being tortured by Armstrong and Bell was substituted after half an hour.
  23. He was a lot better today but still some way away from the best Rovers player on the pitch. A needless booking which Led to his substitution. I’ll draw a veil over an awful performance at Birmingham.
  24. I’ve not seen the red card yet apart from live at a distance of 100 yards, from which we had no idea. However, every single Wednesday fan I spoke to both in the ground and heard on Radio Sheffield said that it made absolutely no difference to the result. We were 1-0 up at the time and looking completely in control. The score might have been a bit less but we would have won anyway. An element of caution though - this was at least as much a terrible Wednesday performance as a great Rovers one.
