Again though, why not play the first few friendly with that formation? Suppose it's possible that we could use it in our last 3 friendly, but I will bet anybody anything that if we try it against Charlton on the opening day that we're in for another Doncaster at home fiasco from this time two years ago.

I really don't mean to sound negative but this fills me with absolute dread, even more baffling that I bet we don't play with this formation throughout pre season. We have a basic bunch of players, play each one in there CORRECT position where they know there jobs etc and we wont be far off.

The loan market being used for someone like this is fine. I also have a good friend who's a WBA ST holder and he's just text me back saying "he's brilliant mate, would have loved for him to come back here, can't be long until he's a premier league player". The thing is though, is he really going to play instead of club captain Mulgrew on a regular basis? Or instead of club favourite Bennett at right back? I can't see it.

I don't envy whoever our new GK is if that's the case. Every time I have seen us play 3 of the back it's been a mess. It would be classic TM if we went all through pre season playing 4231/433 and went 3 at the back against Charlton though.

Be amazed if Rothwell or Travis start on the opening day, it's a perfect chance for Mowbray to revert to type and play his faves. Fully expect Bennett, Mulgrew, Evans & Downing all to start against Charlton, with Nyambe, Travis, Rothwell, Brereton & Gallagher on the bench.

I think it will probably be Bell first choice left back with Hart as back up, and Bennett at right back with Nyambe as back up, with William's being used in the centre. Unfortunately Bennett for some reason has to play, and I just don't see how he gets in midfield especially after signing Johnson, then having Travis & Evans as our other options in the centre, with Downing, Rothwell, Armstrong, Gallagher & Brereton as wide options. So it has to be right back where he is shoehorned in. I just can't see us signing a full back this summer.

It's all well and good getting some experienced heads in, and I'm all for it, but the point still remains no matter how much experience is in the side, and no matter who is in goal, any team with Bennett & Bell as full backs will concede a lot of goals.
