I knew you would want to spend it back then, indeed after you said it on that thread I said ‘Yeah right! You'd be swinging from the chandeliers of Chez Chadwick if we signed someone for 10 million!’ Which is fair enough and I hope they are still intact the morning. So my advice to you would be stop blindingly agreeing with the club’s stance, if you’ve always wanted us to buy players for big money, say so, otherwise you look a bit daft when just two months ago you ‘didn’t want us to pay big money for one player, we should build a squad instead’ now we should DEFINITELY pay £8million for a Championship 19 year old

I wouldn’t say half personally, however are the non marquee foreign managers that are parachuted in usually any better? -
Ha, does seem slightly stalker-ish, or I have a rain man memory, but in reality I stumbled across that post when looking for another in the season ticket thread. Got to hand it to the chadster, he reminds me of a media trained politician trying to spin his way out of a bind after being caught out by Andrew Neil...

Interesting, because in June you said: ‘Rovers clearly arent willing chuck millions and Millions at Promotion but do it a smarter way less cost way of building a squad with good players. Well lets agree on 3 million pounds come from season tickets sales thats 25% percent of our wage budget. Big help to Mowbray signing players. Yes you are right it wouldnt get us signing players at 10 million but I wouldnt want that anyway.’

To be fair, we’ve had managers from the rest of Britain and Ireland since time immemorial pretty much, so I don’t particularly class them as ‘foreign’, though yes they aren’t English so I get your point. The issue isn’t the likes of Mark Hughes and Chris Hughton (born and raised in England, just chose to play for his mother’s country), but the likes of Javier Gracia at Watford, had to wiki him because I’d forgotten who their manager was- spent his career treading water in the Spanish second division largely and a few spells in top flights around Europe taking sides to no better than mid table. He’s a prime example of what’s wrong with the English game - that goes for players too. -

Indeed, lots of parallels with Hughes at Rovers. Though we did even better, top 6, multiple cup semi finals and a run to the UEFA Cup knockouts. Man City took a punt on him, fast forward to today and there’s not a chance a club with top 4 aspirations go for Dyche, just the way the game’s gone. -

Big names mean nothing these days, famous old clubs like say Benfica, Celtic, Rangers, Ajax, Anderlecht etc won’t have Burnley’s budget. -
Loves it, doesn’t he: “We'll be turning up at a proper football stadium, with a proper atmosphere, with people around an hour or so before kick-off. We're looking forward to it. It's a lovely arena. It's a modern day, purpose-built stadium."

‘*Enter manager here* admitted/revealed/confessed that...’ It’s just the standard local rag/red top journo style of writing.

Have the landlords of the boozers been consulted? They must be delighted that their supposed representatives are asking people not to come and put decent money behind their bars. All very Royston Vasey...

‘At least he took Burnley to the Prem’ Be a good title for his biography...

Sorry what? I didn't recall a fee at the time, but is that what it was? Looking a the bloke's very patchy career spent largely in lower and non league, on what planet was he worth that kind of money?
-
That's all very well Stuart, but what's it got to do with Alan Shearer?

The establishment of those nonsense areas like 'Merseyside' and Greater Manchester' haven't helped Lanky solidarity, unlike Yorkshire that kept most of its boundaries and identity intact.
-
The strength of Lancashire (proper Lancashire) in being THE hotbed of the game in this country, with so many league clubs is also its weakness. If the professional game was being established today and it was done on catchment areas etc, you simply wouldn't have all the Lanky towns getting licenses. We have lots of town clubs, full of heritage, all attracting ok crowds, but with little chance to grow. Plus, a load of smaller league clubs too. Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough on the other hand are the only league clubs in the whole north east of England stretching from the Scottish borders to Leeds. A combined club for the Lancashire towns will never happen, of course, for a myirad of reasons, but it is in theory a great idea.

Difference is Liverpool have no issue in liberally spending 7/10/15 million on unproven teenagers, I would say it's a massive risk for the modern day Blackburn Rovers.
-
Oh I agree. But 7 (SEVEN) million for another unproven kid?
