I don’t know what it is, but it can’t be a football thing IMO. He’s not had a chance on the pitch to show whether he can or can’t do what is required. When he’s played for the reserves he’s played well. When he’s played in the first team he’s always had an impact.

Sunderland have no strikers, they’re playing 3 attacking midfielders across the front at the moment. Needs to be a 3-4-3 or a 3-4-1-2, can’t be playing 5 at the back when they offer so little threat. I get I’ll be in a minority, but I don’t like it. It’s a short career, to give 9 years gets my respect. I’d have much rather he was totally ignored for the duration. But I can admit my views won’t be the norm!

I fear we will sell him without giving him a chance. We’ll be lucky to get a million for him based on 2x ACL and no game time. If he can have a semi-decent season and prove his fitness it would benefit us and also increase his value. But I think his time is up now with JDT.

Agreed, which is why I’m disappointed Lenihan seemingly got 95 minutes of abuse from the Rovers fans today. I get light hearted mocking but it sounds like he got it big time today. That’s a man that spent 9 years of his career here, had the option to move earlier for more money and didn’t kick up too much of a stink, is a well respected captain and is liked at Brockhall, especially at the academy for which he did much more than he needed to. He got to the age of a last big contract of his career and chose the most money, for a manager that tried to sign him before and really wanted him. And we’ve seemingly replaced him with someone at least as good! Sometimes I despair, I really do.

I know Phillips is seen as the crown jewel, but Adam Wharton plays championship football like he’s won Champions Leagues and World Cups. He needs very carefully managing and needs to understand that this is important, but if we can keep him on this trajectory he could easily be a Jude Bellingham type sale one day. I know its Wolfsburg's U21s, but I just can't get my head around how anyone can watch that and only give him 8 minutes. If that was a random Rovers U21 player we would find a way to give him minutes.

I thought this, but I was watching some highlights on the Rovers twitter of the last time we played Rotherham (I think) and Dack looked exactly the same then. He gave up when he lost the ball, he made a token attempt to press and didn't make any runs in behind. He's never chased down balls, he's never covered lots of ground in a game, he's never been especially quick. What he did then and still does now is be capable of playing a killer ball and have the unteachable ability of being in the right place at the right time.

I'm putting it down to this as well. It's a tried and tested technique when you're coming in and changing big things, get rid of the previous regime.
