Because he’s said multiple times that Rovers are a “project” and GB has said he will need “a few” windows to get a squad that JDT is happy with. To me it’s clear as day he’s got at least two years to develop our own players before there’s any serious pressure to move us on from where Mowbray had us - floating between 7th and 14th.

If you fully back JDT you need to accept this season and the majority of next season are entirely meaningless as long as we aren’t in a relegation battle.

This guy should be prioritising getting Ewood back looking presentable.

I thought Szmodics was absolutely terrible last night. We’ve got big problems in midfield because they’re all what I would call ‘new breed’, apart from Travis. They like to play football, dictate play, control the tempo, move between the lines. All the cliches. But history shows that in this league you need someone capable of physically dominating the middle of the pitch.

I believe he was first choice at Pompy? Not sure on that though. He’s obviously a decent penalty taker to be ahead of others on the pitch.

Anyone saying one of the other players should have taken the penalty has clearly never played football at any sort of decent standard… or hasn’t watched any of the ‘All or Nothing’ type documentaries on Netflix/Amazon. Rovers, like almost every other team in the country, are given a 1-5 for penalty takers when the match day squad is announced. Each player will be able to tell you who takes penalties and in which order. The coaches decide in advance to help remove any emotion from penalty taking, so it’s clear as day who takes the penalty no matter who is on the pitch. Hirst is clearly high up that list, likely second behind Brereton. If someone takes the ball off Hirst they’d be fined and dropped whether they scored the penalty or missed.

How that hasn’t been given as a goal for Dack I don’t know. First clear chance and Dack finished it, much better than Szmodics.

Hirst has offered absolutely nothing so far.
