v Birmingham City (a) - 1/4/23

These consistently poor away results and lacklustre performances in the league along with the poor Morton and JDT's 'sorry for the fans' rhetoric is getting a bit nauseating now. If they turn in performances he needn't feel sorry but seems like we only do it in the cup ! Big big reaction needed at the weekend. -
Bradley Dack - Twist or Stick?
tomphil replied to bigbrandjohn's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Stick He was largely written off not long ago but proved people wrong again and losing him and BBD out of the squad at once is losing too much quality. -

I hope someone has some valium handy for these kids if there's 50 tickets left on the day, they'll never get over it. -

Yes i remember both, the City one was a rearranged game i think in the middle of a bit of a fixture glut. We'd sold 450 tickets beforehand, probably not many more there on the night. Bolton it all went a bit silly with them with ticket price shenanigans and live tv we always seemed to be there on Sunday lunch. Think it was the same season they had 900 hundred at Ewood, just great examples of prices and SKY ruining derby games even back then. End of the day we have and always have had a limited hardcore fanbase and people have always picked and chose. Very hard for us or that lot down the road to maintain consistent big followings outside of being successful when more casual fans tag along. Some of our fans especially the young ones just don't get this. -

Iv'e been at Brum in the Prem more than once with 5/600 hundred and seen them up here with not many more. Funnily enough we've not done too bad for followings down there in the Championship 1 to 1.5k being pretty standard depending on form. That's decent for us for midlands games where most will have gone down from the North rather than London games where we get a lot from the South. -
Exactly. There was never any sense in letting him go just to grasp back what was paid for him he's worth far more to the squad even for just one season when we were in with a top 6 shout.

A load of teenagers and the predictable middle aged sunshine clown at the end. At least half of our following at Sheffield took advantage of subsidised transport but that seems lost on these lot. -
They probably should have been given 3k to make it fair and cut the injustice argument about percentage of capacity. That wouldn't have made a big difference to any potential effect on the game with two thousand upstairs and the rest downstairs. There'd still be hysteria and injustice screamed but no accusations about breaking any 10% rules and all that.

Yeah i can just see it next season 'damn you Waggot we are blowing promotion again because you didn't let 5 thousand more dingles in so we could buy a striker in summer' Turn it in ffs this game will make no difference whatsoever to the budget set by India, this is a CEO remember who will have let around 25 mill of talent walk for nothing once BBD has left. Those he's on the phone to don't give a stuff especially seeing as he hit his takings targets already because of the cup run so perhaps this game is collateral damage of that. Maybe your seething hordes - sorry seething jonny come lately's might want to consider that next time they are taking the piss at us eventually being knocked out. We don't need your money this season !

£20 tickets, no bubble, Weds night FA cup replay 2005..... 28k full house with limited segregation, proper derby and atmosphere played live to the nation. The club now is run by poundshop operators whose mentality never extends beyond a gate of 20 thousand, that goes for the policing as well. This fixture has been squeezed to death down the years and this is what's left.

Why would we want to sell a decent youngish keeper ? -
Even when Souness was boss and we hadn't played them at Ewood for 20 years and we were going for automatic promotion it was nowhere near full. Granted there were a lot of restrictions on that one and they got about 4.5k but it was only around 23k i think. Only one that could be considered a full house was the FA cup replay in 2005ish and why ? That's right it was discounted tickets, they had 6,900 and we were a Prem side averaging 20 thousand home fans. Ewood is too big and the tickets aren't cheap besides outside of the two clubs fanbases nobody cares about this it's not like Liverpool coming to town with all their local glory hunters.

Earth calling planet philipl..... With their allocation cut and on the box on a Weds night we'll be pleased to hit 20k where the hell are 29 thousand home fans suddenly going to appear from. I take it you're on the wind up, if not you should do comedy instead.

Pears has been part of the best 11 and throwing TK straight back in could be argued is the very definition of sentiment. -

Mowbrays play it out from the back style and JDT's differ quite a bit he went from sweeper to playing 3 aside in his own box. I think he's overdone it at times and needs to find the right balance between getting it out quicker and when to draw them in. Pears imo has been a lot better at that and defenders haven't put him under the same pressure, Ayala being out has helped that. Have to admit there have been times over the last few games where iv'e thought Tommy k saves that. On the other hand we haven't had as many heart in the mouth moments created by ourselves at the back and costing a goal. It's a tough call but for me for now Pears has the shirt. -

Physically the weakest keeper iv'e seen at Rovers and he was bang average at best although i thought he improved a bit as time went on. Then he seemed to go downhill after John Keeley left and was awful in our relegation season but that's when all the questions started about Benson as the new coach. Training with a rookie number 2 and a rookie coach in an ailing team/club can't have helped him although he was crap at Sunderland as well. Spent most of his time at Brighton as 3rd choice but seems their manager now has given him a chance so perhaps he's a late bloomer. -

Keepers are a strange breed it's 75% mental with them as long as they have decent basic ability. Steele is holding down the starting spot at Brighton now. -

Is that to balance out the gallons of diesel you burn with the boat ? -
That's the first thing i thought of he absolutely tore us a new one in that and i think he was only 18/19ish. He had a great career and served every club he was at well he would have been fantastic for Rovers but we missed out on a lot of young players around that period. We had money and agents all over Europe were offering young talent but the policy at the time was buy ready made it seems. Carew was another we passed on, Zidane was offered allegedly and Dugarry i think, if ever we needed a DoF it was then. Back to Heskey i don't think there has ever been a player of his build fall over so much but still score so many goals.

I think some get triggered by the noise from other fans on social media particularly the six fingered or that lot between here and Blackpool variety. Thing is you can't win anyway even if we sold the allocation they say oh you didn't take the extra because you knew you wouldn't sell them. Sell 1,850 and it's ha look at those empty seats you can't sell out when you're top 6 etc. Yet get into any real debate with them and once you've scratched the surface it's very easy to dig bundles of stuff on their followings to prove it's all swings and roundabouts we're all very similar. Anyway, tough game this we need to be at it and avoid at all costs another Rotherham or Stoke feeble effort. All cup quarter finals now and ALL must win games. Brum 2 Rovers 2 -

I doubt the team will be mortified if there is 1600 there instead of 1900 and it won't make a difference to the performance one jot. I'm sure they are grateful for the levels of away support they always get, they should be. -

So far there's a Micra, a canal barge and a bike going so it shouldn't be too bad. -

Has this turned into the HonestJohn website ? My motor is a 1.6 diesel SUV and easily does 45 mpg around town and 60/70 mpg on the motorway without a lead foot. You can shove your electric scalextric cars where the sun doesn't shine !
