  1. The real worry if this is correct is that nobody at Ewood would have even considered this. There are far to many 'fly by the seat of their pants' types down there now who simply don't see the bigger picture. I have said many times before that a few of the posters who I know on here could do a far better job than the current incumbents down there for a lot less money.
  2. The other week Bournemouth against Forest was off because (suspiciously) there was structural damage. This will now be played on May 3rd when the promotion and playoff picture will be clearer. If we had done that then there is a really good chance Brereton would be fit and players free of potential suspensions. I'm convinced it was rearranged so quickly so Rovers could get the 'London Double Decker' out of the way in successive games as was the original offer. Can you imagine Waggotts view on refunding money given his stance on refunds for the BCD games?
  3. But according to Waggott we are having to trim the wage bill and all overheads to deal with any potential P&S implications. I personally don't believe the owners were willing to spend decent money which, given our position could have given us a great opportunity, an opportunity that we probably won't see again.
  4. How are we to interpret the comment about close to a European striker? Did he agree terms, have a medical, travel to England or did we just make an enquiry? Ultimately we fell short in terms of our signings and that failure is costing us massively now and will probably cost us even more come the end of the season.
  5. I haven't seen a team throw the towel in like the Rags did today. Most of them players were a disgrace to the game and supporters who at the very least deserve to see players at least trying. Worst of all was that Fernandez who was embarrassing. If I supported them I would honestly never want to see him playing again.
  6. That's a good spot Jack and I have quickly checked all the other midweek fixtures and Eltringham isn't out anywhere else. Of course he could have closed the date but as a full time official I suspect that is unlikely. Read into that what you will.
  7. Mitrovic should have been cautioned for sure but he had the referee in his pocket and we didn't.
  8. For me he is on a different level to any other Championship striker and he was too clever and good for us yesterday. He even wound lots of our fans up when Fulham scored their goals. I saw grown men ridiculously running down to the front to berate him as he ran to the goalscorers pulling a funny face at the Rovers fans.
  9. I wish we had a Mitrovic in our team. He was dominant yesterday in every aspect and gave an almost perfect centre forwards performance. I think when Van Hecke analyses his game he will realise he learnt a lot from playing against him. The referee was weak and allowed Mitrovic to play him like a fiddle. That's not a failing from Mirtovic but from the referee. Players like Mitrovic sniff out weaknesses and exploit them - in my book nothing wrong with that.
  10. When your game plan goes up in smoke early on due to a calamitous goalkeeping error it's really going to be difficult, particularly with our abysmal scoring record of late. Fulham were so much better than us in the first half it was almost a relief to go in at half time only two down. The change certainly helped us as we looked better but it was always going to be an uphill struggle against a good Fulham side. I really think if we had a Mitrovic type player we would be in a car stronger position. He was really good today and demonstrated all the qualities I think a Championship centre forward should have. This false nine nonsense is covering up for a huge inadequacy that Mowbray hasn't addressed since Danny Graham. I'm not buying into the winning our three home games theory as we are simply struggling to score a goal never mind however many will be required to win three.
  11. Can you recall how Waggott expressed it? Is your understanding is based on hearsay or fact?
  12. According to the minutes SW has had 'no engagement with Ryan Nyambes agent at all'. We have been led to believe that Nyambe and his agent were being greedy. How does SW know what the demands are if he has had no communication with the agent? It's a strange way to negotiate.
  13. I honestly believe that the deterioration in standards has been with the advent of full time, professional referees. It's become a bit like politics were you have career politicians, now we have career referees and despite the riches afforded to the overall standard has regressed. And a further worry is that there doesn't seem to be much coming through to referee on the PL and International list. It is rumoured that potentially three of the more experienced referees on Select Group One are retiring at the end of the season. Now they will have to be replaced by referees from Select Group Two, the ones we see week in week out. It's a real worry but not one that seems to be being addressed. As a wise old ex refereeing colleague said to me "Tha carnd weave without weft".
  14. I've been advocating ex players or even keen students of the game to be VAR's. Refereeing is a closed shop, masonic almost in its workings. There is a real fear of inviting anybody outside the circle. For example Lee Mason is now a full time VAR on a reported £80k yearly.
  15. It's fine to apologise but what is Riley's plan to stop it happening again? It was a ridiculously poor decision compounded by VAR not picking it up.
  16. So Mowbray and Waggott already know their budgets for next season? That's strange because in seasons gone by they didn't find out until the summer prior to the season starting.
  17. I really think we should approach this game the same as we pretty much have since early November. Fulham can't play any other way that to attack so if we can absorb the pressure with fundamentally a back five and hit them with pace on the break we could sneak something. Huddersfield did this recently at Craven Cottage and pulled off a really good win. The 7-0 home defeat still rankles with me and hopefully will motivate the players and management to give this lot a bloody nose. Taking anything from the game will boost confidence and morale going into three winnable home games. I actually like going to Fulham with a nice walk to the ground through Bishops Park and a chat to some Fulham supporters who I have always found to be a friendly bunch.
  18. I agree Gav. It's such a weak list and they are having a huge effect of games with their collective incompetence. The referee today was decent simply from the fact we aren't really talking about him now.
  19. I might be in the minority but I thought in the first half we lacked energy and the tempo was slow which is unusual for us particularly the lack of energy. The second half was better as we pretty much played the game in their half. Much more worrying than that though was the finishing and decision making which overall was poor. Khadra, Johnson and Giles should have had us home and dry but at 1-0 we were on tenterhooks right to the end. I think our season might just hinge on the conversion of chances we create and without Brereton that's a real worry. I have real faith in us defensively and that is a great platform to win games but we mustn't be so wasteful. I have to praise Mowbray today for persisting with Khadra whose confidence looked shot. It would have been easy to hook him but hopefully getting the winning goal will boost his morale. Despite my criticism the win was absolutely the most important thing so from that perspective it was job done and hearing Sweet Caroline was music to our ears. Hopefully today isn't the last we see of Nyambe who once again showed his quality.
  20. Today's referee is Jeremy Simpson who I believe is second only to Gavin Ward on the worst referees list. I don't think QPR are in the same shithousery stable as the likes of Luton and Sheffield United which will make his job easier. As long as we aren't talking about him at 2.30 I'll be contented.
  21. Just as winning can become a habit so can losing. If we get nothing less than a win today ahead of possibly our toughest match of the season next week then I think top six ambitions will be over. Historically Mowbray has shown he doesn't have the wherewithal to arrest a losing streak so personally I fear the worst.
  22. He gets the blame because he was at fault and as I posted it appears that opposition managers see this aspect of his game as weak. He is up there with the best we have had for other facets of his game.
  23. It appears that opposition managers have identified a real weakness in Kaminski from corners and are exploiting it. I have just seen the goal and it confirmed my thoughts at the time (and for some time now) that he is poor under pressure when opponents get around him.
  24. Hugely disappointing night as we pretty much frittered away three points which we deserved. A slow, tentative start didn't really inspire me but after about fifteen minutes we upped the tempo, found our passing range and were, I thought really good. In real time I thought the penalty miss was a shocker from Khadra. Although he put pace on the ball it was too straight and an easy save. For all our dominance we didn't actually create much and the fundamental difference between now and the excellent run we were on is that we the goals per chances ratio was excellent and now we don't look like we could hit a barn door. However playing well and losing to me is far less palatable that playing poorly and losing. My sincere hope was that in January the owners would really push the boat out and bring in some real quality to keep the momentum going. As it was it was an average kind of window when the squad was made bigger but the quality just didn't improve. I honestly think that in years to come we will be talking about it a a real missed opportunity. I can only see regression I'm afraid when we lose the out of contract players soon. All in all it's a real worry.
