  1. Yes a nice touch that. The days when people within the club had a brain and cared, that’s the difference to now.
  2. You deserve a bloody medal !!
  3. That’s the problem with Mowbray he keeps quoting stats that are supposed to show how good the team performed and how unlucky they were in defeat. Unfortunately Tony this game only ever revolves around putting the ball in the opponent’s onion bag and not allowing it to go into ours. Wake up you dinosaur.
  4. In the early days of the beautiful game, many players wore caps
  5. One thing that photo should do is stop all the arguments about which side of the shirt should be blue and which side should be white.
  6. Totally agree TS I also felt privileged to have seen him and proud that he played for the Rovers. I also never saw a better centre half in the following 45 years.
  7. Hit the nail on the head there 4000. Fred Pickering was a huge loss but an even bigger loss was Mike England. Without any sense of over reaction, he was probably one of the best centre halves in the World. Fred left for Everton in 1964 and Mike went to Spurs in 1966, the year that we were relegated. Even though Bryan Douglas played another three years, he was a marked man by the mid to late 60’s and was injured quite often, mainly because he was kicked from pillar to post.
  8. Very sensible. He can walk home from there.
  9. I always liked the 1970 Brazil team, probably the best team I ever saw.. it would have been interesting to have known your dad’s view on that. Happy birthday to your dad. I hope he may be looking down with my dad who would also have been 85 and having a good laugh at the prima donnas that we have to put up with these days
  10. BBC saying he’s been fired from Barrow.
  11. While the family of Paulo Rossi were attending his funeral, some scumbags robbed the house. How low can you stoop?
  12. I never liked Ron Atkinson when he became famous because of that match
  13. Well having watched Rovers since the days of Dally Duncan I have to say I would most liked to have played in a Marshall’s Misfits team. Only because, just like Jim, it would have meant playing alongside my hero’s. I think maybe the players you first regarded as the best in your youth remain the best ever, regardless as what comes after. Howard Kendal must have been some manager though. That shines through in a documentary on Shy called “Howard’s Way” which covers his time at Everton, with interviews with many ex players including John Bailey. Well worth a watch.
  14. Any mention of Oxford Utd. always sends a shiver down my spine. It’s been that way since Feb. 15th 1964. They still talk about big cup shocks like Hereford v Newcastle and Wrexham v Arsenal but our defeat at the Manor Ground is up there with those and yet is never mentioned
  15. Looking at the stats on BBC you’d thing we were the best team, the problem is they don’t matter one jot. It’s all about sticking the ball in the onion bag. The only stat that counts. That’s the bit that Mowbray doesn’t get.
  16. Corner of Richmond Terrace and Sudell Cross. The next time I saw him was as a car salesman at Leavers Vauxhall dealers. That was in the 80’s
  17. I’m puzzled how Milwall are allowed to play in green and WHITE halves, when you have to change the colour of your shorts if they clash.
  18. One of the best things about old photos like that are the things you’ve forgotten about. A brand of fags advertised there that have been long gone. Regarding the fact that Ronnie was rarely seen in the shop, my cousin was a textile designer and had a lot of contact with Ronnie who was a rep for a tie company at the time.
  19. A strange day for high scoring. I thought ours was the only one at the time
  20. Was there not some doubt that the game wouldn’t even go ahead because of fog?
  21. Martin Tyler is nauseating about everything. He’s past it as a commentator. He actually doesn’t commentate at all, just mumbles away about anything other than the match.
  22. On this performance I don’t think I have ever seen a more clueless Rovers team than this in my 60 years of following them. TM seems just as clueless as the players.
  23. What a fabulous night that was, and I can remember it like it was yesterday. Sadly realising what has happened since those heady days, in reality it’s more like a lifetime. Nothing can rob us of the memories though.
  24. I hated Hughes,Savage and Speedie.......until they joined us
  25. Sorry it’s blurred. It’s March 1965, agree on Fed Else and Mick McGrath. What I couldn’t work out was which ground it is. Facia of stand is either Sunderland, Everton or Spurs. The attacking forward has red socks which would lead me to think Sunderland, but facia is the wrong colour.
