  1. Apart from a disastrous run of results similar to his time at Coventry, what will it take for Mowbray to depart ? Shearer summed up Newcastle fans' frustration on MotD last night - they want their club and team if not winning trophies but to be seen to be competitive and challenging, "not just to be happy just to exist" Because that's what we're doing at the moment - just existing, going through the motions of playing games, winning a few, losing a few, without any sign of breaking this grinding, frustrating nothingness.
  2. I said on here in midweek that today would be 1-1 and I backed my hunch with a chunky bet And I've often waited for your predictions and done the opposite, and done well too I'm up £8,787 so far this season. Happy New Year!
  3. Pulis has never lost to Mowbray as manager in 8 games. Nothing about to change
  4. Don’t bank on it. Unless Armstrong has a cracker Tony’s Christmas turkeys are due a stuffing on recent form.
  5. Top class player John Edrich and a real tough nut. Him, boycott, Barrington, never gave their wicket away. RIP
  6. Pulis unbeaten in 8 meetings with Mowbray teams. Can't see any reason why that won't continue Rovers 1 Wednesday 1
  7. Ridiculous. How can someone living in London know how Rovers fans feel or have any connection with the club? On that kind of salary he could buy himself a nice house in the Ribble valley anyway.... is that too much to expect of someone earning that kind of money?? Waggott (if it is him) needs to leave Ewood asap and replaced by someone who has a genuine love of our club
  8. Typical Rovers after a great result in the previous game. I bet there was a good crowd too. I didn't see it fortunately but can remember the incredulity among teachers at school
  9. John Bond, Martin Peters?, Standen in goal?, Lampard?, Brian Dear, Billy Bonds, Redknapp, Brabrook, a few names that come to mind though might be too early for some of them. And we all know the score in the reverse fixture a few days later
  10. I said my memory was hazy! Byrom definitely scored while he was limping though!
  11. My best memory of John Byrom although I might be wrong as memories are hazy after all this time was the FA Cup match against Arsenal in the 1965.66 season, the year we were relegated but had a good cup run. We beat Arsenal 4-0 with Byrom scoring at least 2 hobbling around on one leg after getting injured!
  12. I was there Den and I will never forget it. We took the Spurs double side apart
  13. Surprised you didn't spot John Byrom. Smashing player.
  14. Hope Mercer has lost a shedload with his silly predictions
  15. He's only 29, he should still be playing Championship football al least. Some lads don't deserve the talent they're given. What a stupid waste
  16. Still wouldn't play Bell ahead of Douglas - there aren't many decent wingers around so although he isn't great defensively if you want to drop Douglas I'd put Downing at left back. Rothwell's strength is running the ball from deep, so to have him up front doesn't make sense. I'd go 4-5-1 Nyambe, Lenihan, Ayala, Douglas/Downing Elliott, Holtby, Trybull, Johnson, Rothwell Armstrong This gives Armstrong a free role with support from the attacking midfielders. On another note, games come thick and fast so the players must be knackered at the moment Wouldn't be surprised to see Rovers make another very sluggish start. Their efforts in midweek will have taken alot out of them
  17. Thanks, have done the reverse and bet on a Rovers loss Going contrary to your bets is a good way of making money.
  18. At that point Armstrong had been our worst player ...... and he's been poor for several weeks now.
  19. The last 20 minutes was our best period of the game. You should have seen the first 70
  20. Some good points in there. Mowbray should pick the below and stick with them. It's a flawed team and some players have obvious weaknesses but they are the best we have at present. Nyambe; Lenihan, Ayala, Douglas or Downing Elliott, Holtby, Johnson or Trybull, Rothwell Armstrong, Gallagher Forget about Buckley / Williams and one or 2 others.
  21. Tony doesn't help himself, or maybe he does it deliberately, but that starting XI was never going to work and we only looked a more cohesive unit when the entire midfield had been replaced. Rev's right, watching Rovers under Mowbray does wear you down because as a bullshitting talking head you know he's taking us on a road to nowhere, and getting excited at victory is completely pointless.
  22. It wasn't just the poor football and poor performance - the players didn't look up for it and wandered around for 70 minutes as though they couldn't care less. The first half was as devoid of passion as I've seen from Rovers in many years. Tony has to take the blame - not only did he pick the wrong team, they went into the match in the wrong frame of mind.
  23. Buckley instead of Holtby ? Buckley is 21 but plays like he's 17 (the opposite to Elliott). He needs to spend a season in league one and get 40 games under his belt. At present he's just a lightweight and should never start a game
  24. After that amount of time I'd have expected some insight Most disappointing.
