  1. What a terrible take Chaddy. Nyambe is currently on 4 grand a week. If you were him, would you sign a new contract on those terms? Let’s say he wants 9 grand a week, still cheap in the scheme of things, that would be an increase of just over a quarter of a million quid a year. Considering how much money we lose and waste, it’s a drop in the ocean. I’d wager it’s also significantly less than we’d be paying in wages and loan fees for players we are borrowing from Brighton and Leeds. How much do you think your suggested replacement would cost? Selling Nyambe on the cheap now would be unforgivably stupid. If it was to Burnley it would be horrible. Replace the word Nyambe with Rothwell, add 20% to each number and the point is the same.
  2. They also regularly play players they have spent 8 figure transfer fees on.
  3. Let’s not keep dumbing down how good our own kids are
  4. Anyone else a little suspicious about Nyambe’s “injury”? Started off as him being rested/protected, it’s developed into a hamstring injury that’s caused him to miss three games. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him touted round and end up getting sold for whatever money we can get for him at quarter to 11 on Tuesday. Of course the scenario will be reimagined as him being “not good enough” or “a liability” who “was desperate to leave” and “refused to sign a contract”. I have heard the contract he has been offered described as “laughable” by one source. And another describing it as an extension on the same terms, no pay rise. I believe he is currently on around 4K per week - that’s less than Waggott.
  5. Chapman turns 24 in November, and Nyambe in December. I think that once they hit 24 we are entitled to no compensation.
  6. I think if it was just this window in isolation there’d be no question. However, when we were crying out for a centre half and he made those “defenders are coming” comments, I truly believe his plans to spend money on one were kiboshed. Mowbray was clearly wanting to invest in that area, there was nobody from the academy knocking on the door at that point and we ended up playing Rodwell there a number of times. The only players we have spent a 7 figure fee on in years are attackers, with Brereton and Gallagher being massive anomalies in our overall transfer business. I expect there is some model they work to in terms of “expected sale value”, I theorised about a similarly flawed model regarding contract parameters. I certainly think there are limitations put in place on what Waggott and Mowbray are allowed to do, and the “free reign” idea is miles off.
  7. Mowbray’s comments today should be a bigger discussion point. Venky’s will sanction money only for a striker? I have speculated that provisos like this have been happening for a while and probably explain why defenders never came and the weird Brereton transfer. It shoots holes in the theory that Waggott and Mowbray are given a budget to spend as they see fit. The structure at the club is completely unclear, and evidently dysfunctional. And despite being here for a decade, none of the Rao family could tell you the difference between a centre forward and a washing machine. Who is advising them these days?
  8. You can put a spin on loaning players from Liverpool, City and the like. Loaning them from Brighton is a sad indictment of our current state.
  9. With the set up at the club as convoluted as it is, with blurred lines of roles and responsibility, it’s hardly surprising our business is largely shambolic. It’s become a regular occurrence for loans to be talked about the entire summer, yet it seems to take an age to get them over the line. We can’t even sell players quickly, but come deadline day there will be a flurry of activity. Mowbray mentioned “wage structure” again last week. People seem to automatically assume this is a wage cap, and that Nyambe and Rothwell must be demanding 30k a season. I think in reality, and it’s something that Rich Sharpe has hinted at, is that players are bracketed within a structure, and academy graduates like Nyambe and Raya before him are slower to earn contracts at the level that players who cost a fee might get, regardless of their status in the squad. I think the Brereton negotiations will be easier, as he is our most expensive signing and the structure will give them room to manoeuvre. Of course this is stupid. Players contracts should largely be based on merit, but with owners who are utterly clueless about football, and who will stubbornly stick to something like this, its no surprise. Obviously there is an issue regarding reduced revenue, but it’s one Waggott is happy to blame solely on our supporters. Frustratingly a large chunk of the fanbase like to buy into this and join him in the blame game, helping him deflect from the fact that in our last published accounts our commercial revenue for the year was £10 MILLION less than that of Bristol City in the same period. If the useless sod could get something other than the Venky’s logo all over those expensive electronic advertising hoardings, we would be in a whole lot better financial position.
  10. Can I do Barnsley away please @Mike E
  11. My brother got a new card after not renewing last year. I needed a new one. I’m not 100% sure, but I think if yours worked for the Swansea game they’ll just leave it active
  12. Buckley should’ve scored today, but I’m encouraged by the fact he seems to get into decent shooting opportunities. If he keeps doing that, a goal will come. If he scores a single goal this season that’ll be more than Trybull, Downing, Travis and Evans managed between them last year. He’s clearly worked on the physical side of things lately, and you can see the difference. The stick he gets from some is bizarre to me.
  13. Well deserved three points which we fought hard for. Can’t fault anyone’s efforts tonight, though the centre backs and Travis deserve special praise. We weren’t ever really seriously troubled after we’d settled, disappointing goal conceded aside. Chapman with an impressive display, and maybe he can be a worthwhile part of the team going forward. Really enjoyed seeing us actually attack the ball from set pieces. I’ve got a slight worry that a massive influx of loanees might disrupt things a bit. This core of players are good, and most have room to improve and develop too. We’ve also got some quality to come back from injuries. Another quick one on the game, I felt the ref that supposedly hates us was pretty generous for the free kick for our second, and I’d have been livid if one of ours had received a booking for that. Credit to Mowbray tonight. Made some big calls and got them right… just switch Gallagher and Dolan round in future!
  14. I know I’m overly cynical, but Nyambe has been training all week. Makes me wonder if it’s an injury or an “injury”.
  15. Yeah, mine did indeed arrive today. You get a ten quid off voucher for Peter Jackson jewellers in the envelope. They must be the longest standing sponsor left by some margin. About the only one Waggott hasn’t driven away.
  16. Only caught the highlights, but that’s a cracking header from Brereton! Didn’t think he had that in him, and I’m delighted to hold my hands up. That yellow kit looks brilliant! Today was always going to be a very different proposition to Swansea. 4 points from the opening two games has far exceeded my expectations.
  17. Nice change from the none too subtle reminders from the club that it’s not the 90’s any more! Looks a nice shirt!
  18. Reversing the halves on the back = bar raised!
  19. A terrible, terrible appointment. Came in and made the right noises, but he is clearly in a job that is way beyond his capabilities. His track record supports this. He is bad at everything, has zero successes, can’t see how he’s met a single objective and has seen us regress in many ways. As well as being absolutely rubbish and completely out of touch, he’s also vindictive and dishonest.
  20. The word “injury” seems to crop up a lot, which sets alarm bells ringing.
  21. Absolutely. First order of business has to be offering better deals to Nyambe, Brereton, Kaminski, Lenihan and Rothwell.
  22. I didn’t expect that at all, and pleasantly surprised is a big understatement. Buckley’s first half performance was incredible. Very confident this is the season he really marks his arrival. He absolutely bullied Grimes! Great to see both Brereton, sorry, Diaz and Gallagher on the score sheet. Diaz would’ve had another with a better ball from Rothwell at the death. No complaints about anything on the pitch. It was good to be back, and very quickly felt like I’d never been away. Would’ve been nice if they’d cleaned the ground up properly and done a few repairs. The tannoy at the back of me in the Riverside has finally given up the ghost after years of threatening to do so.
  23. Rovers Radio returns with the pre-match show at 12:00 today. If you’re of a positive persuasion it might not be for you! We do have a couple of guests though, and I had the pleasure of speaking to Michael Hodkinson about his new book chronicling the story of the East Lancs derby, as well as Scott Sumner from 4,000 holes. Some good music too! https://roversradio.co.uk/listen-live
  24. I’m expecting any optimism will be gone by five past three when it becomes apparent it’s Gallagher and Brereton out wide with Dolan through the middle.
