I am not advocating him playing at centre back, I am making the point that I find your idea about “modern fullbacks” nonsense. I’m actually surprised you think modern centre backs need any aerial prowess. Read it again. You’ve not paid attention to a lot of the thread if it’s took you til just now to see the numbers around Nyambe’s assists. I thought you were just ignoring it.

If what you are saying is correct and a daft blanket statement like “The modern fullback role has changed” is true, then Nyambe’s coaching has obviously been wrong since day 1 and he should probably have been a centre back. I think it’s far more a case of there are about a dozen full backs in world football who play for a handful of really good teams who provide a lot more of an attacking threat than the other 70% of fullbacks who just do their actual job. There is also about 20% of fullbacks who fall victim to managers chasing fads and employing confused tactics - this is where Nyambe fits in. “Hasn’t improved” is bollocks. His assist numbers have gone up this year, although assists aren’t on xG levels of nonsense stats, they aren’t great either. A player could dribble from his own goalmouth the full length of the pitch, beating every player twice and hit the post. Someone tucks the rebound away, but nobody credited with the assist. Everybody has different opinions on players, and that’s all part and parcel. However, some of our fans have had a downer on Nyambe since day one and will never change their opinion. There’s another significant number who have the really odd mindset of slating him because they believe Mowbray doesn’t rate him. Loads of examples on here and other sites. Oh, and the piss poor goal returns of our 5 and 7 million forwards are far more of a concern than the fact Nyambe has not scored.

Lack of a goal is completely irrelevant. He’s a fullback who stays back for every single set piece.

I think you are totally wrong here. Mowbray seems obsessed with trying to play the game “the modern way”... keep hold of the ball at all costs, pass it across the back 4 ad nauseum, get your keeper as far away from his goal one as possible, match players to positions based on physical attributes and not natural ability, largely noncommittal defending, ignore set pieces and use only as a method to further retain possession, false 9’s, midfielders staying zonal and leaving their men, diving, obsessing over numbers and stats except the important ones - scores and points... etc etc. The problem is that the modern approach that all coaches are now taught is seen as good for youth player development. It’s also perceived to be exciting for some inexplicable reason. Trouble is it only actually works for elite teams who are significantly better than other teams they come up against. Mowbray seems to have set his stall out with this approach, and we aren’t very good at it. I am pretty sure we would be at least 6 places better off if we had employed “tactics from a time passed by” like Burnley do.

Cross to who exactly? The towering centre forward Armstrong? The nippy winger Sam Gallagher will usually be stood 8 feet away from him on the edge of the box looking for a 1-2, or lurking on the edge of the box on the other side waiting to bend it like Chris Brown. We barely put any crosses in, because we aren’t set up to. Ball retention seems to be our absolute priority. Nyambe isn’t the only one responsible for repeatedly working the ball back to the keeper from the byline within three touches. We play a system that seems to encourage every single player to do less of what they are naturally good at.

I think he’s majorly hampered by the system Mowbray employs. Whether it is Nyambe or JRC they are expected to do the jobs of 2 people. JRC isn’t as natural a defender, and Nyambe isn’t as natural attacking. Plat JRC in front of Nyambe and that’s a hell of a right hand side!

Smart idea this. Not dissimilar from the idea of the Hacienda inspired city kit a couple of years back. Has crossover appeal and will be bought by people outside of the fanbase. I bet a well done home of the rave inspired kit would shift a fair few. Obviously Ajax are City are a different prospect to us, but this sort of thinking would certainly not do any harm. 18 months ago Blackburn was, for a short time, the place to be thanks to the British Textile Biennial and the launch of the Blackburn Spezial. Being so dismissive of other people might be something folk have a problem with. The tone of some of your posts belies the lack of ego you speak about. I truly hope YOU (or someone, anyone!) do manage to have a positive influence on the owners and help bring about improvements. Getting “others” onside, collaborating, sharing and generally being respectful would likely increase YOUR chances of achieving this, and ensure you had the fans backing if and when YOU do.

One in agreement here. I’ve hammered Brereton in the past. I don’t think he’s a good technical player, but this season he has developed a hell of a work ethic and he has a knack of being able to carry the ball through the middle third really effectively. Really clicked for him today. Elliott I think has had a very good season on a personal level, but I feel we carry him for large periods of most games, he is dreadful defensively and like all the hype surrounding him, it’s all about him. Technically very good, but a luxury for a bottom half championship team.

Really hope you are right. If this is the case though it’s absolute madness! He’s not a competent advisor. A new man should’ve been given enough time to at least assess things themselves, if not to salvage something from this absolutely disastrous campaign.

I think it’s been pretty evident he will be here next season for a while. The whole idea of an end of season review is completely stupid, and admittedly therefore plausible with our idiot owners, but if he was going he’d be gone by now. There’s not a single valid argument for him to still be in the job. None. I expect that Waggott, a man who since day one has, barring the occasional early platitude positioned himself firmly against the clubs supporters, will double down. Expect increased ticket prices, aggressive guilt tripping dressed up as a marketing campaign, even more insulting interviews, lies and plenty more dumbing down and running down of our club. Personally, I think the viewpoint of the little old fella in his 80’s who was born and bred in Stretford and has been going on Old Trafford since the 50s is a lot more important than the guy in the Philippines who since discovering football 8 years ago has a picture of Bruno Fernandez as his Twitter avatar and watches them on telly. A breakaway could be the best thing that has ever happened to the English game. Take a year or two for things to level out, but it would present a brilliant opportunity for top to bottom reform. So what if the next sky deal might not be so big, just means all clubs will have to stop making bang average players millionaires by the time they hit 20. We got the Premier League and all the inequality that goes with it thanks to similar thinking. This sort of idea from the laughably called “big 6” is the next step on from that. The Premier League hasn’t brought the international success it promised, and I dare say there’s no improvement for the vast majority of fans across the 92 league clubs. People who refer to and view football as “a product” and watch it on TV from all corners of the globe are the ones being considered here. Kick them out of FIFA, effectively make it a different sport for them. No doubt our game will endure.
