Yeah but Man United have at least had a very funny fall from grace this past decade or so. It's nice to see Newcastle still being gnawed away at despite all their riches and triumphs of late. I prefer if the carousel of dejection and misery passes from club to club every so often. Arsenal are on a very long spell, Man City had a very funny meltdown last season, Newcastle are currently being ridden like a derby winner... all good, inclusive, fun for the rest of us. I remember Harry Redknapp telling a tale once of when he was at Portsmouth and they wanted to cash in on Benjani when Man City offered x amount for him. Apparently the poor lad was at Southampton Airport refusing to move as he was happy and didn't want to leave. The club got their way and the poor bastard was out on his ear.

An evening that shows how a lack of additions will kill us this season. Absolutely everybody who played tonight is 100% in the core match squad, we didn't "play the kids". I'm still waiting for us to replace Adam Armstrong. -
Few comments earlier about Tavares can step in to Trav's boots if/when he goes, but what happens when he or Tronstad are injured or suspended? In comes Montgomery/Forshaw/Buckley. We are absolutely in trouble. We have nothing prolific up front, like an Armstrong or Graham to get regular goals. Team just looked all over the place tonight. Sloppy mistakes and misplaced passes. I feel that team selection was a message from VI to Gestede. Here's your academy players against a side playing in League Two last year. Play that side against Birmingham on Saturday and its a cricket score.

If we don't bolster this squad with some quality loans, we are in big trouble. Guess what happens to resale value when you're relegated, Rudy. -

That was pretty concerning. By the end we had a strong team (for us) out there and really didn’t create much or appear superior in any department to our newly promoted L1 opponents. I’m not bothered about losing and can forgive the young keeper making a bad mistake, my concern is how little we created against supposedly inferior opponents at home. Where are the goals going to come from if we are only adding an unknown European RW to our ranks? I would be seriously shocked if we don’t get soundly beaten on Saturday. -
The simply looked a better team, set up better, looked stronger , looked confident. We looked every inch a League 1 side aside from Wharton and some flashes from Cantwell but he's really quite a petulant liability at times and at the moment does more wrong than right. Not going to dig out the kids, they are going to be made to play whether they are ready or not and that's a recipe for disaster for us and them. #Pathways

Wharton and Miller looked good Tavares and Henrikson were absolutely dreadful. I'll make allowances for Henrikson, young lad, clearly very nervous.. However, I don't see how either is an upgrade on Buckley. We had absolutely no control of the game. Trondstadt was poor. De Neve- poor Kargbo is a box of fireworks- really poor decision making and final ball tonight.. Didn't really give Gueye much to work with- looked like he cared though. Felt really sorry for Michalski - I remember a certain Mr Raya having a dreadful debut for us in the a cup game.. Made a few good saves. Cantwell, Ohashi, Buckley all did Okay If Ismael has watched that and sanctions the exits of Travis, Bucko, Trondstadt he's mad! Piss poor! -

It could be a good thing showing we need to splash the cash now or we will have a long hard season. -

I can't believe how difficult it is to get a player who is a number 10 to play further forward. He always plays so deep and he did it under Eustace. I'd suspect it's a case of him not listening/following the instructions he is given, can't be a coincidence that he's doing the same under VI, yet back end of last season he did seem to be further forward. -

That's a negative not a positive. A positive would be being embroiled in a relegation battle but gaining some confidence and momentum because of a good run in the Cup. -

This has been coming, the survival on the last day two seasons ago was the warning shot and they haven't learnt their lesson. It takes time for new signings to bed in and for the team to gel however, every team is in the same position. After focussing on their individual contributions so far, the replacements are not even on par with their predecessors (apart from Tavares). I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to suggest that in terms of quality, we probably rank quite low in the league and that doesn't bode well. We lack quality, we don't seem to have any identity. I don't think VI is a bad coach (he proved that at the back end of last season) but I he is even thinking now "what have I got myself into?". From an attacking point of view, too reliant on Cantwell for creativity (a player that conceivably could be available for 50% of the season), Kargbo looks like a competition winner, Gueye and Montgomery are way out of their depth. I hope I'm wrong.... -

I was scrolling through the BBC Football fixture pages this weekend and it was only then that I realised all our National League Cup games were confirmed, just that the Club hadn't bothered to tell us, and didn't until about 8 hours before the first one. It's a shame as I probably would have made an effort to do Brackley had I had a bit more notice; it's unlikely we'll come across them again in a hurry (wait until we play them with the senior side in League 1 in October 2028...!). Thankfully Moors and Tamworth are doable on the night for me and with a lot more notice.

Another rancid performance. There was a couple of late penalty shouts though, so we can pretend we were unlucky like Saturday when in reality we've had our pants pulled down by a lower league team. Another embarrassing cup exit under the clowns. We look completely clueless again in front of goal. Our goal only coming after Miller threw the ball 3 yards Infront of the net for De Neve to smack in at point blank range. If we concede early again on Saturday we're in trouble. -

It is hard to not feel pretty deflated after that it was obviously a second string ish team. If they think one more attacking signing is enough then I will nail down my opinion to a bottom 6 scrap I think what worried me most tonight was all the talk of tyjon and Montgomery both were v poor tonight l. Tavares did ok right winger centre mid and striker required and all for starting 11 not just to be signed to appease fans
